Thirty years apart. I was issued the 1066 by my department while in the academy in the fall of 1991. I bought it for $190 in 1993 or 94 when we switched to the 40 S&W. I always loved the caliber and hunt with a Glock Model 40, but when Smith just came out with their $100 rebate, I couldn’t resist. Haven’t shot it yet, but ergonomically it’s head and shoulders above the Glock. No idea what purpose it will serve but can’t wait to find out. C51A8330-FE24-424D-A4F6-D54DCD456495.jpeg

I bought a Compact with a 4" barrel as soon as they came out. I had used both G20 and G29 for years and liked them a lot. I eventually let the G20 go and kept the G29. I shot both equally well and liked the versatility of having a compact pistol with 10 round mags, but could still use the 15 round G20 mags if I needed to.

But after buying the Smith I sold the G29. Size wise my Compact splits the difference between G20 and G29. The Smith has better sights and a better trigger. I do shoot it better than the Glocks.

Having the option of a 1911 style safety is what won me over though. Carried in a holster I don't care, but for rhe way I used them I like having the safety. I use mine as my hiking/camping pistol in bear country. I was never comfortable with a chambered round in a Glock while in my sleeping bag.

Holy Moly!

$190!

Hopefully your M&P gives you great service!

(That $100 rebate sure makes it tempting)

*edit* I bought my S&W 6906 around that time (I'd have to look but I'm too lazy right now) for ~$500.
$190 is a steal!

It’s the trade price Smith was offering. Got one better, a detective didn’t want to buy his model 66, so I borrowed (yes I was that broke) a $110 to buy it. Still have that one too.

Very nice group there for sure. After all these years and saying no I don't need another cartridge to load I jumped down the 10mm rabbit hole. I tried the Sig Xten, the G20 and the M&P. Yestrday I ordered the 2.0 4.6. The grip just fits my hand better, the trigger breaks nice and light compared to the other 2 and that 100 buck rebate sealed the deal. The only thing I don't really like is that Billboard on the slide but I bought it for a Jeep and woods gun so no big deal. Now I got to get dies, brass and bullets.

I don’t reload but this caliber makes me want to start.

If 10mm is Old … I don’t want to be New!

For people who didn’t grow up with 10mm and just recently discovered it, breathe of fresh air from 2x stack micro 9’s. I’m a 2000’s .40’s fan and my only exposer to 10 was a Colt Delta Elite that my brother carried. now 10mm comes in SAA to MP 2.0 10plus!!!

I was making $15 an hour as a rookie officer in So Cal in 1991 (I started the academy on Monday, April 1). Living has never been cheap here, so I know exactly what you mean by needing to borrow money in order to buy a gun after paying for rent, food, gas, dry cleaning, etc. ;)

I was issued a 5906. It was a turd, so after about two years I swapped it for a SIG P-226 as soon as our new Chief let us carry our own guns on duty. I recall seeing a S&W 1006 in an occasional holster in LA County in the mid 1990’s, but those were pretty rare. I used a S&W 4013 as an off duty gun, that pistol has been a gem.

Stay safe.

I'm glad to see the resurgence of the round, and that S&W has decided to support it.

However, I do not like the feel of the recoil in polymer 10mms. It's not that it's painful, far from it. Just weird. I'll stick to the 1911s, CZ pattern Tanfoglio guns and S&W 10xx. My 1006 will never be sold while I'm alive.

S&W is really sniffing around my wallet with the 10mm and new 5.7 offerings. I've started paying my M&P9 a little more attention and it does feel considerably better than my Canik (slightly too big) or my son's Glock airsoft (G17 copy). I haven't been able to wring the same accuracy out of it as the Canik, but it shoots basically everything the same, which is to say pretty good. The Canik shoots one load exceptionally well, otherwise it's about the same. Hopefully the 5.7 and 10mm will be a little more accurate.

I just purchased an M&P 10mm 4.6" from PSA because of that $100 rebate. Probably pick it up on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

Already bought 40cal/10mm dies, 100 180 gr. Hornady XTP, 100 rounds of CCI Blazer 180 gr., 20 rounds each of Underwood 200 gr. and 220 gr. I have Power Pistol powder and Red Dot for starters and tons of small pistol primers that I will reload into the spend Blazer cartridges. That's the plan anyway.

Keep an eye out for Longshot. It’s a good range powder for 10MM and showing promise in full power loads as well.
Lennyjoe, I screwed up several years ago and bought 4 lbs of WSF for shotgun reloading when in hindsight now I should have gotten Longshot to do the job  Oh well, just another excuse to buy more powder (like I need an excuse)

I agree in 2 different 10mm types!!
Great round!! I am glad S&W is keeping up the 10mm line. It's my favorite MM!!
