We have all seen the “what gun” and “one gun” threads and to be honest they get a little tired. I mean, generally I know exactly what I want when the question is asked. And the answers are fairly predictable more times than not.

For a different twist, how about which antique? Say pre WW1, this is a lot harder for me to nail down. As much as I want an 1841 Howitzer, and a Gatling gun, I really think I’d have to go with a Nock gun, I’ve wanted one of those for years and I’m pretty sure I’d have to make one in order to own it. I could see my brother with a punt gun, given the chance.

What about you folks, if you can pick one antique gun from history what do you get?

The only one that stands out is a little 2-pounder bronze cannon that I found in a remote creek in southern Oregon while looking for places to pan for gold.
The folks at the museum said that it was a Whitworth Indian chaser or something like that and said that it was probably from the Table Rock uprising.
They talked me out of it along with the sad remains of a Patterson revolver that I found near the Merlin ghost town site.
I'd like to have both of them back... .

I think that a Winchester 92 or 94 is an excellent choice for a rifle and the Swiss 06 can be considered pre-WWI and it's pretty, while mine is the 29/70 version in 9mm.

On the other hand, I really love to shoot even a simple muzzle loader.

A Ferguson rifle would be nice. And I've always wanted an 8 or 4 bore rifle made by one of the famous English makers. Nothing on this earth draws more attention at a shooting range, than touching off one of those monsters and creating a cloud of smoke the size of your garage...

M1918 BAR.

If it has to be pre-Great War, probably a Sharps 1874 Long Range Express, though I'll be honest, I'd rather have a new production rifle made by Shiloh than an original antique, so I don't feel so guilty shooting it.

Well, if I’m going to dream, I’ll take the question literally. Either Tom Horns or Billy Dixons (from Adobe Walls) rifle. Those jump out at me. However, if in fact it was a possibility I may come up with something else. It would be from that approx time period and of American western heritage.

A ballard rifle would be high on my list. I always wanted a Sharps until I shot long range with a friend's Pedersoli. 500 gr bullets maim on one end and kill on the other.
Kentucky or Pennsylvania long rifles are cool too.

A Ferguson rifle would be at the top of my list for being such an amazing piece of antique weaponry.

Next would be a Baker rifle most likely because I watched too many of the "Sharpe's" Rifles Series!

Finally if the other two were unattainable Id like a double barreled flintlock pistol, as seen on Military Heritage's website.

Only one pre World War I gun? For everyday use from defense, hunting, plinking, carry it would be a Colt 1873 in 45 Colt caliber with 5.5 inch barrel. Close second if allowed would be a Winchester 1873 carbine in 44-40.

I already have one of my holy grails. Here are some pictures of my unfired C-96, when I first saw it, before I bought it from a friend. It was made in 1913 so it qualifies. Matching stock.

Sorry about the glare.
