S&W 3913 gun

I still carry this. It's a double stack and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Performance Center Shorty 40.Of all the pistols I have, I still like the feel of it on my hip. The Center worked magic with the trigger. 20221228_232044(0).jpg 20221228_232044(0).jpg

Buy pre-owned, pre-scratched, pre-loved pistols. Then, no need to worry about that first scratch. ;)

There's always refinishing.

I haven't decided if the 3914 is getting moly resined in SOCOM black or Dark Slate yet

3913 was my Carry gun for years until I succumbed to the 365 and high mag capacity.

I carried 3913's and even a CS9 for many years. I was exclusively into Beretta's and Smith 3rd Gen's. Time went on an size and weight matter. so a Ruger LC9S and then a Shield, then a Shield Plus took their place. I had to retrain myself for the down to fire instead of up to fire so no more TDA 3rd gen's for carry for me. I do still carry a 3953 or an even smaller 3953TSW with a 7 round mag occasionally.

But I have many 3rd Gen's. More DAO than TDA at this point. The only 3 TDA I have now are a 5906, 4566, and the 3913. The rest are DAO.

That's what Moly Resin, Cerakote, etc are for!

I have a two tone 5903 in excellent condition, along with the 5906, 3906 and 3904. Not at all shy about using these 3rd gens as intended, despite their increasing values.

I do so want to add an internally threaded barrel to one of mine.

In my experience, they almost never do. Third Generation Smith pistols have a well-deserved reputation of being reliable in the extreme, the most important attribute of any firearm being counted on for use in self-defense.
Weeeeelllll my experience with a Gen 3 5906 was not one of reliability, it was the worst center fire auto I ever carried.

But I will admit that was an issue with that gun, overall the S&W series is known to work well.

Stay safe.

I love my two 3913s. They are good shooters and carry easily, if S&W would still support them and parts were more available I would probably make the 3913 my primary carry platform. I think that S&W should revive them, I feel like there are quite a few folks out there looking for a TDA 9mm single stack and now that the p239 is gone, there's a big gap to fill. Maybe if these new slimline Glocks do OK S&W will take notice. I'm interested in the G48 primarily because it reminds me of a striker fired 3913.

I love everything about my 6906 except the trigger. The single action pull has a looong take up, a small hitch, then a mushy wall before the break. If I could clean that up it'd be in my carry rotation.

I have 3913 and 3913TSW. Really enjoy them. I also have a 5904 I bought new in 1989. I don't shoot it much anymore but I take it out a couple of times a year. I've never had a malfunction with any of them. I switched my carry guns to a Kahr PM9 and a CZ P07. Snubby revolver is in the rotation occasionally as well. Still like the traditional DA/SA.

Just bought a as new can be 3913TSW without the rail (hate them things) came with 2 mags, factory case for $600. Owner said it's from 93.
Always wanted one, held a couple and they just felt good. Everything I've read about the 3rd gen S&W has been positive. Have not heard or read a negative about the 3913.
Going to use as my carry piece.
Anyone own one?

Must've missed seeing this thread before now.

Congrats. Hope you're still enjoying your early production 3913TSW. Just FYI, the first TSW version of the 3913 was released in '98, and had a cutaway on the front of the grip frame, which allowed it to use a 7rd magazine (versus the standard, slightly longer 8rd magazine of the 3913/14/NL/908 variants). It was in production for approx 2 years before being discontinued in favor of the 3913TSW with the standard length grip frame (and accessory rail).

I have a late production 3913 from '98, and a later production LE 3913TSW from '07, if I remember right. I had a chance to buy it from my former agency when they were transitioning from metal to plastic. I also own an early 2000's CS9. I rather like the 3rd gen single stack S&W 9's. ;)

I carried assorted issued S&W 3rd gens from '90 through '16, and I eventually became a factory trained armorer for them, attending 4 of the classes and helping service upwards of a thousand guns, from the earliest 3rd gens until they were discontinued. Many tens of thousands of rounds fired in them as an instructor, in 9, .40 & .45ACP.

I still like them, and still carry them and run them at the range (drills and quals) from time to time.

A 3913LS has been my EDC since the mid-1990s, and I even shot local USPSA matches with it for a while. IIRC, in all the years I’ve had it and several thousand rounds, the only failure I’ve had were one round of Winchester white box FMJ that apparently didn’t have any priming compound in the primer (the firing pin smashed the primer to the bottom of the priming cup and it didn’t go off). It has never had a failure to feed or fire with non-defective ammo.

It’s also more accurate than one would expect a compact pistol to be.
