Underwood vs Buffalo bore hardcast

Their specs are pretty darn close. Both make outstanding ammo, but BB is more pricey .

I’d probably pay up for Buffalo Bore if buying big game rifle rounds…I buy Underwood pistol rounds.

I asked @beeenbag if he has ever done a head to head for his YouTube channel. He hadn't, but thought it was a good idea.
I have never ordered Buffalo Bore, but like underwood. I have also used HSM hardcast. The HSM is not loaded as hot as underwood and Buffalo Bore.
In rifle ammo I have never used any of them.

Kentucky Ballistics on Youtube. His older videos from a few years ago were a lot of comparisons of rounds through gel.

I can't remember if he did any direct comparisons of BB and Underwood, but it would be a good place to look.

I shoot Underwood, haven't had any issues, I carry them in mine. Can't really say they are better or worse than Buffalo Bore. No reliability issues regarding cycling, feeding etc. I've run them in a 6" Alpha barrel and and the factory

Shoot both often enough... Like others said, Underwood is cheaper.

My "wrist chronograph" has both brands as very spicy.

I like Underwood if I had to pick, only because I have a lot more rounds downrange because of cost.

I haven't used Buffalo Bore but hunt extensively with Underwood and have always found their products affordable, reliable and accurate.

Let me see what I can find that is comparable between the two and I'll try to get a video shot on it.

I have these coming. I work on the road and only get home every so often this time of year, so be patient with me, but I will get these into some gel for you guys.

I like HMS Bear Load ammo. Used to be cheap and easy to find, neither of which is likely true anymore after the pandemonium and it's ubiquitous use as an excuse.

I don't have any experience with Underwood hard cast, but I have used and carried Buffalo Bore hard cast in 9mm, 38 special +P, .357 magnum and 45 ACP +P. It all works. It is expensive, especially the shipping if you order it direct from Buffalo Bore.

There is a guy on another forum who recently started manufacturing his own ammo to Buffalo Bore specs. I have tried his 9mm, and he gets the same velocity as Buffalo Bore and uses the same bullet. He also has some unique stuff like hard cast .38 Special +P wadcutters. His prices are cheaper than Buffalo Bore and Underwood, and his prices are shipped prices. I don't have any interest in this, other than that I use it. I will stick with Underwood!

This guy uses a similar setup to what I have so it was more relevant to me. Underwood beat BB by 30 to 50 FPS on all loads. Both are good though. I use Underwood for 45super and 38special. I don't think I have seen a direct comparison video on 38special. I can't remember which one is better with it but Underwood is definitely less expensive.

As of the last couple of years, Underwood has taken over for all of my SD loads for 10MM and .357 Sig.

Buffalo bore is rated out of real guns too, and stacks up with power levels/velocity. Not sure about density, hardness, etc. I have both, but as others have noted BB is more expensive. I've begun buying more Underwood over time as a result. Arguably, BB has the best true FBI load on the market though for .38 special. I don't think Underwood makes one.
