For context im not intending on doing this unless we are quite literally in a SHTF situation

But..

Is it, "with in reason" possable to utilize powder from dismantled factory ammo in the event that powder becomes impossible to obtain

Has anyone successfully created a load or knows a way to measure the burn rate of say a stock pile of factory powder

Is ask because i have been collecting powder from dismantled factory ammo, because it seems like a waste to throw it out

I have had many opportunities where people have givin me old ammo that is not safe to shoot or i found a steal on a lot of ammo that is litterly dirt cheap and i bought it just to pull the bullet melt it for lead, and pop the primers out for another cartridge, melt the brass or save it for swaging , and pour the powder into a container to save for the oh snap moment

It would be nice to know a way to utilize every a aspect of such situation

In a SHTF situation (which I was told we do not do here on THR) the safest and possibly best use for old powder would be to fertilize your garden.

Pulled powder could be reused but there would be a long ladder to climb with lots of estimating and risk. Definitely last resort IMO.

If only there was a process that could be done to measure a powders burn rate and compare it to another known powder where you can then say if powder A is equel to powder B in terms of pressure and velocity then its safe to assume your starting load can be near the same as powder B

Of all the components you listed, factory powder is the Great Unknown... and, generally, the only component that can get you into trouble. The only thing that would get you even close to knowing what the burn rate/powder is would be something like LC 5.56mm or 7.62mm, which is domestically manufactured with powder in a fairly consistent burn range... but even then, you don't really know.

Hartkopf is correct... it's fertilizer.

Don’t do it, but reuse unknown powder??? Yes, we here are 100% capable of doing that. We got all the instruments and know how. With that said, I rather get beef from Costco then shooting a Buffalo

I wouldn't do it! It could possibly be done but...........

In a do or die situation there are better options.

I save mine and use it for my annual light show around the fire at Deer Camp. I usually end up with a quart jar a year but I've already exceeded that this year!

I've made "Mexican match" ammo from factory ammo, just pull bullets, pour out powder while measuring weight, and average the powder weight to get more consistent factory ammo. But just raw, mix it up and load it? Nope.

I mean not mixing it up like i collect it in old powder container and i label them with the company that made the ammo IE. A container of magtech powder then Federal ext.

I mean i can think of alot of other uses for powder in a SHTF situation but it would be nice if there was a way to reload it

I know factory powder is perpriatry but there must be some way to compare them to what we reloaders use isnt there?

With all due respect I just don't think it's a good idea. A possible blown up gun and missing fingers isn't much help in a SHTF situation.

No disrespect taken, it is a post only for curiosity i know how unsafe it is to use factory powder and in a SHTF situation its likley better used for bigger booms

i was just hope there was someone out there who solved the math and made it work so that it wasnt such a waste

In a SHTF situation (which I was told we do not do here on THR)
Bingo, we have a winner. Perhaps the OP should try again with a different approach. I personally have some recovered powder which I could most certainly work up a load with. It's not a math issue though. My best advise would be to leave it to experienced reloaders.
