Not sure where this question goes.

I downloaded and filled out my C&R app, the citizen form, and typed a letter to the CLEO. (Much thanks to all of you who have discussed how to do this in other threads)

I'm in San Diego County and its a pretty big county - not sure if I should send the letter to my chief of police, or the head sheriff. Anybody know??

Also, should I send it certified mail w/ return reciept? Or regular mail? I'm a little worried of being accused sometime down the road of not having sent him a copy.

Thanks.

If you were to dial 911 and ask for the cops, who would show up at your house? City Police or County Sheriff? That answer is the same as the answer to your question about where to send the form.

As for evidence that you sent it, I would not worry. Simply send it, attest to the fact that you did so, and don't worry about it. If the BATFE ever wanted to accuse you of lying on the form they would have to prove that you in fact did not send the letter, and that is an extraordinarily difficult thing to do.

I cannot answer that without dialing 911 to find out. I think they'd be pretty displeased if I made an emergency call to ask who would respond if I ever make an emergency call.

Perhaps I should send a letter to both?

In that case, do you live inside the city limits? If yes, police, if no, sheriff. (Note, this is not a hard and fast rule, as some jurisdictions are strange... especially around major cities....)

Also, no harm (aside from the extra stamp) in sending it to both.....

I would not advocate calling 911 and asking them this question....:D

I guess you could also get a lawn chair and sit in your front yard with a case of beer and a shotgun wearing nothing but your underpants and wait to see who shows up.... but I wouldn't reccomend it....:D

;)

:neener:

Edit to add: If you live in certain rural jurisdictions, you should be prepared to share the beer, and have plenty of ammo on hand....
