This morning I decided to go hunting since it was the first day of gun season. I went several times last year and never saw a thing. This morning, just as the sun was rising, I was getting really sleepy. Suddenly I looked upand there she was, a doe was easing out of the edge of the woods, walking near the corn pile. After a minute or two of watching her , she turned broad-side to me and I shouldered my Savage .270, put the crosshairs just behind her shoulder at let one fire. As soon as I shot she bucked up and ran into the woods. I climbed down and found blood and pieces of lung all over the corn. I found her about 15-20 yds. in the edge of the woods. I drug her out and saw that I had hit her exactly where I had aimed. What a massive hole on the other side though!! It wasn't a big deer but it was my first. I was kinda nervous because it was a 90 yard shot that I had to take but I pulled it off. :D What a good morning!!!

Congratulations!

Well Done. Putting the bullet where you want to on your first deer is tough.

I remember my first elk. I was shaking like a leaf on a tree. The nice gentleman that took me hunting ended up plugging his ears, and letting me use his shoulder as a rest so I could take a steady shot.

Of course, this was Eastern Washington, and after the elk was down we paced the shot out at just over 300 yards. If we had known that before, I never would have had the courage to try the shot. :uhoh:

Anyway, congratulations to you. A

As if you weren't addicted enough before.

P.S. I extremely jealous of someone that gets to shoot a doe on opening day without a special permit. Give me meat over antlers any day.

Congratulations ! The thing you should know about venison though is that not all of it is edible. There are a couple of nasty strips of meat along either side of the spine inside the ribcage called “tenderloinsâ€. Believe me, you don’t want to eat them. E-mail me and I’ll give you my mailing address so you can send them to me for proper disposal. Thanks.

Congrats. You are hooked now I bet. For me, there is just as much excitement for every deer I get as the first one, I hope you have the same enjoyment. I love to deer hunt. I crawl around on my stomach with my trusty double barrel and play the wind ya know...:D

Congratulations,

You did very well…I respect anyone who shoot accurately when they are that excited. I hope you continue to enjoy hunting and I welcome you to the fraternity of hunters.

Good luck,

Enjoy telling the story again and again.

We all like to hear it.

Congrats, you'll be hooked forever.

And about Mantis's comments.......I fell for that "Poison Tenderloin" thing once....it will never happen again! Tell him to get his own damned deer.

;)

(Mantis and I deer hunt together every now & again)
