Love it even though it hurts?

there must be alot of sugar in the water the further north you go ....

i am a recoil junkie, i'll shoot anything once!!

Not me. If it hurts to shoot, I don't wanna shoot it.

Might be different if I were hunting dangerous game. Then I'm sure it would "hurt so good."

But for anything I'm hunting, no need to abuse myself.

I shot some 12ga 3" magnum buck, and that was "too much" for me. Re-arranged my glasses. My ceiling is somewhere just above .308/.30-06./12ga.

My Swiss K-31 is just right. A nice centerfire whomp with enough rifle weight to make it a good shove with no pain.

I'm not recoil sensitive - per se'.

Gun fit , good ears, and good form I do okay.

Guns that don't fit - some hand gun grips the rubber ones hurt , proper wood stocks don't.

That said the most hurt of late was not the recoil it was the wheelchair...I was helping some disabled persons with shotguns...I was using a 835 Ultimag...I fired off that 3 1/2 Roman Candle, using a wheelchair...and I learned some stuff about wheelchairs - right fast...

No we won't discuss me learning how to do wheelies either. Shotguns I can handle, it is the other stuff that gets me ...all out of sorts...wheelchairs, ditches, bar ditches, tractors, p/u trucks

I like my recoil served up a bit differently...in pocket pistols. I love the P3AT and I've enjoyed working up hot loads for my P32. Shooting standard 32acp feels like a 22lr now.

I don't like my ears to ring so I protect them.
I would be concerned about shooting an uncomfortible hand gun to much.

Other than that, bring it on. Many of the russian WWII surplus rifles have steel butt plates 7.62 x 54r after 50 rounds or so.

The jungle 303, hurts good too.

I like trying different guns out for the experience and won't shy away.
However when it comes to something to shoot regularly, I'd rather have something that doesn't bother me.

cheers,

I'm not terribly sensitive about recoil, but if the gun does something wierd that hurts out of proportion to the power I'll get rid of it. I sold the Super Blackhawk I owned because it would beat up my trigger finger. The S&W M29 was better.

I now have a fairly light .375 H&H, and I call the recoil "challenging", but it's not out of proportion to the power. Ditto my .480 Ruger, which requires I wear PAST gloves, otherwise I'm done after six shots. These guys who shoot "light handy" single actions in the LInebaugh calibers are just asking for carpal tunnel and other hand problems when they get older. No Thanks.

I am thinking of getting one of the .416 Rigbys in a CZ or Ruger. It will kick like two mules, but it will hit even harder on the front end.

I have a .300 Savage, which has mild recoil. Unfortunately the grain on the buttstock just happens to dovetail with my beard stubble, so I get a facial waxing each time I shoot it. It's somewhat annoying. :neener:

I bought a Marlin 1895 last week and ordered a recoil pad for it today. I made up some progressive intensity loads over the weekend for use at the range. I also did some calculations for a 7 1/2 lb. rifle using my handloads and came up with some amazing numbers. :what: Hence the recoil pad! I want to ENJOY shooting my new rifle, not merely tolerate it.

I always know im shooting something

Heavy hitting when I have those blue and purple marks all over my shoulder at the end of the day. I kinda like the battle wounds though!

I'll light off just about anything handheld , I have a .44mag snub with boot grips that I rather enjoy :p , but not interested in the shoulder fired pain variety , got a bad neck disk and it's just too aggravating for too long when I throw it out !

I spent a lot of money on a semi auto 12 gauge , just so I could have a shotgun that I could shoot comfortably.

Hehe ... our caseydog seems to quite like the Casull and BFR too! :p
i like the muzzle flashes from the big boomers.
Spiffy - that gives me yet another excuse to post my famous Raging Lunatic muzzle flash ... sorry folks, I know it's been around a while!

But it's purrdy! :)

::ahem::

It's called recoil therapy.

Ruger #1 Tropical in .416 Rigby here. The worst part about shooting it is paying for the ammo. It's actually kinda fun to plink with. I'm a member at a very understanding indoor range, which helps.

I like guns with boom and oomph but Im not scared to put a decent recoil pad on the gun either. I actually enjoy shooting my mosin with the 203gr load, or my 870 with slugs, but I also use a slip on recoil pad for the mosin, and a limbsaver for the 870. A big boom, with a good size push is fine, pain is not.

too old to volunteer for a whuppin.my fave cannon however was a armalite ar50 i shot a couple years ago;all that power with 243 recoil, awesome begins to describe it.gonna get 1 of those someday.

i understand solothurns and lahti 20mms are fun. id try a shot.unfortunately i dont know anyone who has them.

I'm a big guy, but I find that I can tolerate hand cannons better than big-booming long guns. Must have a tad of arthritis creeping up on me. (Surely my age of 52 has nothing to do with it.) Shooting a 30-06 with 150 grain bullets only five times or so causes my shoulder to ache something fierce!

Susan was looking long and longingly at her coach gun this morning (12ga Baikul, no recoil pad) before she left for work - and paused on her way out to ask if I'd mind putting a few hundred rounds of 300gr XTP rounds for the Super Redhawk together with a fresh batch of N110!

Seems that woman is dreaming of wanting to try going after bowling pins at 75 yards after she's been able to get back to the gym ("Oh - would you mind if I hung a 250lb heavy bag in the garage, and bought a few mats?"). . .

She's wanting to become the party six-pack of whuparse. . .

Gus, if I had to guess, I'd say that if one enjoys near-full contact martial arts, one may likely also be something of a recoil junky. Our very, very modest collection of firearms has always been limited to defensive practicality in the past, but who knows? When we finally manage to pay off her medical bills I really wouldn't be surprised if Susan brings home something "just for fun!"

Like a Freedom Arms .454 Casull.

Or a Barrett M107. . .

Thats an awesome picture. Question: Does the blast do anything to your pistol scope/optics. It looks like the flame is enveloping the front end of the scope

Shot a buddy's "ultra-light-tanium" .357 snubby recently with some real 'full-house moster-zombie-butt-stomper' rounds....Couldn't hold my 1911 on the target @5Yds afterwards...I'll pass on trying that again, thanx.

Fired a .375 H&H "Big 5 Dangerous Game" rifle. . . . . ONCE!

My Mosin-Nagant M-44 carbine with the steel butt plate is much more comfortable to shoot after installing a $10 Butler Creek slip-on recoil pad. Also easier to shoot with the 147Gr or so 'light ball' rounds than with the 180-200Gr 'heavy ball' ammo..or some of the 180Gr+ soft-point ammo.

Shot one of those "handi-rifles" or what ever they are called...you know the style, a break-open single shot, with different barrels avaialble. It was a .45-70, again a monster-zombie-butt-stomper round. Cor-Bon or a Garret Buffalo-bore. I'll pass on that one again, too

So, yeah, I'm kind of recoil sensitive.
