Does reloading and marriage/relationships work?

Lets see....My wife bought me a progressive metallic reloader for my B-day. I've been directed to buy a progressive 12 ga reloader. She helps keep the progressive fed while I operate the handle. She shoots as much as I do. Nags me if we have to buy ammo.
I don't think she has a problem with reloading.

When I don't have loads of time, I crank out maybe 20-30 rounds out of the the prog anytime I'm in the garage (it only takes about 5 minutes). So I slowly accumulate plinking ammo without impacting my family time.

That is about the best pitch for a progressive I have ever heard.

My wife is my best friend!

Married 28 years now, and that's been through a lot of hobbies. Ham radio, computer building and gaming, woodworking, shooting, reloading, ...etc. She is very tolerant, knows what I'm doing and where I'm at, and it's better than a lot of alternatives. And, I try to be sensitive to getting my "honey-do's" taken care of, and take her on a date about once a week (because I want to!).

If your wife gives you trouble about reloading, just tell her about all the money you're saving by not having to buy premium quality ammunition. She'll immediately head for the mall to spend the difference and your troubles are over!

My wife bought me the Lee Anniversary Kit years ago. She is also a horrible enabler. Helping me to pack the racks with greasy old milsurps. Card tables with guns strung out all over the place while watching football is normal in my house. Doesn't mind the smell of cosmoline and Tung oil at all.

Then i got a gun for my wife. I feel i made a really good trade.

Reminds me of some neighbors I had on time.

Several years ago a couple moved in across the street from my now ex wife and I. They seemed like a nice couple and we became friends with them. One day he showed me a gun he bought for “Debbieâ€. I thought that was a nice thing to do, but several days later my wife called me at work. It seems that the evening before he had put the gun up to the side of “Debbie’s†head and pulled the trigger. The gun was empty at the time, but that was not what I thought he meant when he told me he had bought a gun for Debbie.

Considering I'm reloading for her .45 Kimber Ultra CDP and my .45 Ruger P345, My Dan Wesson .357 and her Colt Python .357, she doesn't complain. She might complain if we ran out of ammo, I guess.

:D

My reloading mentor has a pretty good set-up with his wife. He reloads, she works on her basketweaving and keeps both of their coffee topped off (she decided that putting down a basket mid-weave to get the pot is a little less dangerous than stopping mid load).

Not married quite yet (a few more months to go) but when I do get hitched I'm not that concerned with finding time to reload. My wife will have her own hobbies and pasttimes and I'll reload when she's doing other things.

Don't ask me.

I've had two wives, as many as 10 Shotshell reloaders up and running at one time, pallets in the garage, one bedroom dedicated to reloading, tried to get another bedroom set up...did have stuff in that BR walk-in closet.

I have killed three vacuum cleaners, one while married to each wife and another one recently ...

Umm...I am single now, I have some reloaders and equip in storage, taking a break from ..err.."stuff" ...working on some other areas now. :D

Reloading time/family time

When we built our home in'94 our two sons and I were already into archery pretty heavily and I had just begun a correspondence gunsmithing course. My wife has been a great seamstress forever and had recently begun doing upholstery work for friends and relatives. It was decided we both needed a designated shop area so we put them side by side and try to spend the same time in our shops.Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. When we are down there together we can talk through the door if needed. She doesn't sew as much as she once did and occasionally will make a snide remark about the time I spend reloading, shooting, and working on guns but they are rare and sometimes are a needed reminder that I need to devote time to just her alone.

YOU BET IT EFFECTS " RELATIONSHIPS ". IT GOT RID OF EVERY GIRLFRIEND AND

Wife I ever had till the present one who pesters me to go shooting more often and is now pestering me to teach her to handload our ammunition. We only shot up a bit over 20,000 rounds since last june 1,'04 so I do believe I can keep up on my own...so far.
If I hadn't been a handloader I might have still been stuck with one of those other whiners and bitchers, but spending all my time loading got rid of 'em down to the last one!!! Handloading made it possibe for me to meet the current--and last--wife and live happily ever after.
THANK YOU GOD, FRED HUNTINGTON, VERNON SPEER, JOYCE HORNADY ETAL for delivering me from bondage, simple minded ninnies, the whiners and bellyachers, to this wonderful woman who is now my wife, AMEN.

My wife is fairly unconcerned with it. It's a good place for her to send me when I annoy her. I mostly reload late in the evenings. So long as everything gets done around the house and I have time to spend with her on the weekends, she's fine with it. She usually scrapbooks, reads, exercises or gardens if I'm reloading. Sometimes she's in the basement with me,so we interact while "hobbying". Other times, she's enjoying her own time.
The best recommendation I can give is that if you are a person who has hobbies, make sure that your prospective wife is a hobbyist herself (it really doesn't matter what kind, so long as she has them).

Like you, it keeps me calm in a meditative sort of way.

One thing I DO have to be careful about is that sometimes when my girlfriend (of 11 years) is talking to me, I'm not listening because I'm thinking about something else reloading-related - trying to work out something in my head. Gotta watch that!

Everyone needs their space; both literally and figureatively. It's a retreat for both of you. She needs a hobby too.

I keep trying to talk my girlfriend into taking up baking, but she hasn't done it yet.

I'm really lucky because my girlfriend tries very hard to take an interest in what I do. Last year she got all my friends together and bought me a chonrograph. This year I'm getting a Dillon Auto Primer Filler, partly because she hates filling primer tubes when we reload.

Of course this means I have to act like I really care about watching a few of her TV shows and that I just adore shopping (modeling the clothes = good, buying them = suck!). Every girl I have dated for any substancial time has enjoyed shooting and if they didn't... we didn't date long.

Tak an interest in her hobbies and if she is worthwhile, she will take an interest in yours. If she gets jealous of your hobby then there are other more ugly issues just waiting to surface down the road. Jealousy is not worth putting up with, there are way to many hot women out there that aren't jealous and can't wait to make you happy.

I'm so lazy....

...that my wife is thrilled to see me doing anything, and reloading is about the only thing I work hard at.

Reloading never seemed to bother my ex-girl friend...

My reloading never seemed to bother my ex-girl friend. She realized that she had plenty of time to make my life miserable.:(

To all you unmarried guys, please select your women as you would your
firearms, "very careful". ;)

All men want to spend time in a cave. Its how they settle down their mohjo after a hard day in the salt mines. Women like to talk out problems with their mohjo. It is perfectly acceptable to spend time in the cave as long as you come out and let SWMBO vent. If you stay in the cave to avoid talking with SWMBO, you both have problems.

Second point, a significant mistake my ex and I made as a couple was NOT devleoping hobbies apart from one another. We both made the assessment separate hobbies pointed toward a problem with our relationship. Wrong assessment and bad mistake.

Reload is in my view the second most perfect hobby. You create something then make it go away only to be created again. Can't do that if you make bird houses.

In addition to your reloading manuals get a copy of "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" and keep it on your bench. :D

I was pretty active in shooting NRA Hipower in the 80's. A guy that I shot with was blessed with nice brother. He put a singles ad in the local paper.
It had a number of requirements.
1- Can reload ammo
2- Does not mind the odor of Hoppe's #9
3- Knows how to reload ammo!
4- Does not mind he special man being gone weekends

You get the idea! Well no one ever responded. He had to stumlble upon a woman who brought her brother out to shoot hipower. She started hanging out with us those old enough for adult beverages. Well, that was 14 years ago. She has tolerated his shooting and even shot before their youngster showed up!

Anyone lucky enough to find a woman that indulges those of us who do politically incorrect stuff ought to clone them for the rest of us!

A gal I work with worked OT and stuff to send her hubby to Front Sight! Although I steered her towards some of the cheap certificates up on various boards! This woman paid for his ammo and extra certificate so he could take a shooting buddy with to FS. I do not know what he will do to make things even! But needless to say there are some special women out there. Embrace and take care of them!

No problems here or I'd be single.
My wife knew what she was getting into when she signed on and thinks this stuff is pretty cool. I spend 80 to 100% of my 'winter' time in the shop depending on what I'm working on.
We have a very small house and my shop is attached, so I'm right there.
We talked about building a new shop out back and decided against it because it would be too much like moving out.
We only have one rule and that is....If there is powder in the hopper do not disturb unless it is life threatning
Other wise she is free to interupt anytime, we have a relationship that works and I'm willing to drop a piece of brass for her at any time, for any reason.
I'm a lucky guy and I love my wife. :D

Reloading is allright. I wouldn't advise trying to alloy lead ingots on the cook top though. The exhaust fan can't keep up with the smoke, house stinks, had to wash walls and repaint the kitchen. That was not one of my better ideas.

salty.
