Favorite Case Lube For Rifle Brass? RCBS X-Die - 223 Rem

my favorite is anhydrous lanolin. sheep grease without water. ask a pharmacist. unlike petrochechemicals, it is great for your skin. a couple ounces will last and last. cheap too.

I like the Dillon case lube. Does a good job for me without being messy.

I was going to suggest the One Shot. Never had any problems with it, other than the cost.

Imperial Sizing Wax

I no longer use anything other than Dillon spray on lube. It works well for everything.

BTW. My preferred method is to spray the cases and then let them dry, rather than sizing them wet. Either method works well, but letting them dry first is less messy. And since retiring, I do not allow myself to get in a hurry.

I clean the lube off of the cases by tumbling in warm water and liquid Tide. It works for me.

Wiping them off with a soft cloth soaked with alcohol works well too, but it's a PITA.

I use Hornady's One Shot. Although I plan to try the following "home-brew" from the old RELOAD-L list:

1 part Lanolin
8 to 12 parts isopropyl alcohol (experiment)
shake well before use

I use the RCBS lube, applied to the inside of the neck with a nylon bore brush. Use same externally with the lube pad that came with my Rockchucker kit. I've never stuck anything using this lube. I run the cases through a dishwasher cycle after sizing to remove the lube.

I've done several hundred rounds of .223 so far with the X-die and am very happy with not having to trim the cases. Seems to work as advertised.

Imperial Sizing Die Wax

Pretty darned slick stuff, and it's great for serious case forming! I still use Dillon spray-on case lube for bulk ammo loading through the progressive presses, but otherwise, it's Imperial all the way!

Dillon Case Lub

I don't know about the rest but the Dillon case lub is Lanolin and Alcohol. Best to spray and let some of the alcohol evaporate then you are left with a nice slick surface for your sizing. It's completely natural and non-toxic.

I tried some X dies in 30-06 and wasn't happy with them. I was getting lube dents on each case shoulder. The little bleed hole in the sizing die doesn't work. Yes, I checked to make sure it was clear of obstruction.
I called RCBS and their support guy told me I had to wipe the lube off the shoulder of each case.
What a pain in the a**!!!
I called Dillon and ordered a set of their dies. They work exactly like they're supposed to and I haven't had any lube dents since.

I'm starting to wonder about RCBS. I've used their equipment for a lot of years but lately I haven't been happy with their offerings, their digital powders measures and their priming tools to be specific.
RCBS customer service is pleasant to deal with, but they never seem to be able to solve the problem.

My two cents.

I've been using the RCBS oil based lube, along with their rolling pad. I roll about 10 of them at a time through a thin layer of the stuff on their sponge pad. I get occasional dents in the first batch, but it's quick and easy, and lasts longer than the cans of spray lube. Add to that, I never lube the necks, inside or out; just the case bodies. I've loaded several thousand .223,.308 and even 7mmRM this way, and have never stuck a case in my Lee die with this method.

After over 40 years of reloading, I've tried most everything that came along. Nothing does as well as

IMPERIAL SIZING DIE WAX

Nothing else will do.

I have been informed and have read that STP is a great case lube. Yet I do not see it in this thread. Am I wrong? Had planned on using STP after running out of Lee.

STP is a great case lube. It's a royal PITA to get off though, both from your cases and your fingers. but it does a great job.

Shoney, have been reloading for 40 or so myself. why i have never tried Imperial Wax i do not know. thanks to your recommendation, i will do so.

Isn't STP petroleum based?

I thought powder and primer exposure to petroleum products was problematic, unless the cases are very thoroughly cleaned after sizing?

The Hornady spray lube works well for me, but I have to rotate the cases while spraying, to get an even coat.

Also have to let the carrier evaporate completely, before sizing.

Long ago I used to use STP!! But a tad oily for clean up. For some now have used the Lee stuff .. no complaints on that .. and by all accounts it is based on a machining lube, so able to tolerate high pressures ... seems to do well and is non greasy .... just a wipe of case with cloth does fine. Usually do the tumbling earlier on b4 sizing.

Home Made Case Lube

Many years ago I worked at a gun shop while in high school to earn very interesting things. They made and sold their own case lube that was red and I think it was a mixture of red automotive transmission fluid and possibly had some lanolin added. I still have a quart of it and the other quart has lasted me for 50 years.

Sounds like a good brew Paul ..... one I have heard of before. Lasted you 50 years eh? Hmmm .. you might even be older than me!!
