the Xd9 feels so much better in my hand, but will it have the reliability, accuracy, and longevity of a Sig. thank you

People with kill me over this but what the heck. I see no reason why the XD would have any less longevity than a Sig. As for accuracy, they're pretty darn accurate guns, I get sub 3" constantly at 25yds. I bought mine over a Sig 2340, just liked the feel better, trigger too.

In my biased mind, I"d say no, it will not. But, buy what you want, what fits you best, and what your budget may allow.

What the answer is going to come down to is bias, pure and simple.

There will be people like me who will say that you are not getting anything more with a SIG than reputation and cachet. That would be bias against perceived overpayment for diminishing performance returns.

There will be others who rightly think that SIGs are great pistols, but who could never quantify the difference past their own biases either.

I do think polymer will hold up at least as well as extruded aluminum, which are the two materials most SIG frames are made of.

Considering what a gun is made for, you need to have the one that works best for you. Springfield Arms has an excellent reputation for customer service (as does SIG), so I wouldn't worry about longevity too much. Finally, if you buy used you wouldn't have to worry too much about loss of value should you choose to move on to something else after purchase...

Get the XD, shoot the heck out of it. If you like it and it proves itself reliable, great! If you find you don't like it as well as you though you would, get yourself a SIG and try that.

Personally, I considered both. I chose the SIG because I prefer traditional double action.

I've got an XD-9 and a SIG P229. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I have a slight preference towards my XD because it fits my hand a bit better, and because I'm not too keen on the SIG's factory sights. (Certainly I could replace them, but I've been too lazy/cheap.)

I have to admit I have never fired an XD, but I have extensive experience with the SIG 229 and I find it to be superbly accurate, comfortable to shoot, naturally pointing and absolutely reliable. I wouldn't hesistate to reccommend it to anyone who is looking to buy a 40.

I know of plenty of people who have put thousands of rounds through an XD and had no problems at all. I'm not quite there yet with mine but so far it holds up fine. Springfield's lifetime warranty will back it up if you do have any problems though. I'm sure SIG is also a great company/gun to go with. Obviously you will save some cash going with the XD, and in my opinion you won't really be sacrificing anything. Especially if the XD feels better in your hand.

but will it have the reliability, accuracy, and longevity of a Sig. thank you

You should be able to learn alot just from your own question. The mere fact that you asked about it being AS reliable, accurate etc...tells me you already have doubt---which isn't good. Being as reliabilty is #1, 1a, 1b and so on---I would say go with the SIG.

The ultimate answer would be to go to the range, rent them both, and see what you shoot better. The rest is just speculative and biased as others have said, they are both reliable and accurate guns. Go with the one that feels better and shoots better for you.

ideally, i would be able to put 200-300 rounds through each, at this point its not likely in my area. i am interested in a 9mm not a 40. i guess i would not like to doubt an XD9; that would leave 226,228, or 226 DAK

IMO the XD9's single action trigger makes it the better gun.
You already like the way it feels and it is much less expensive than the Sig.
I don't think reliability is even a consideration.

IMO the XD9's single action trigger makes it the better gun.

The XD9's SA trigger makes it a better gun in relation to what....... You obviously have not shot the Sig X-Five. It will run CIRCLEs around any XD9. :)

Hehehe but for the money the XD9 is a pretty good gun. I've owned both the XD40 and the XD9SC. My only complaint is that the XD series guns have no soul compare to a Sig. They XDs are accurate and reliabe.

The XDs will have eaten everything I've put through my Sigs and spit out bullets on paper and eject brass just as nice as my Sigs. You can't go wrong with either pistol.

Here is a mini Sig Collection.

that would leave 226,228, or 226 DAK

That makes it simple---for CCW 228 for home defense/range 226. 228 is cheaper and many SIG enthusiasts swear the P228 is THE best for 9mm, but overall little difference in the 2---whichever feels better or aims naturally for you.

I own a 226 in 9mm and an XD 9, though it is the sub compact and thus a different animal with that shorter barrel. I also used to own a SigPro in .40 and have shot a 228 (9mm), 229 DAK (.40), and 4" service XD in 9mm.

For sure, I am no expert, but I do know that all these are fine weapons. I like shooting both. They are all reliable, feed, shoot, and eject everything I put in them. But, the Sigs andd XDs FEEL so different from each other because ARE different from each other. Of course you should shoot both types before buying, but if you can't and you must make the decision, then go with your wallet and your gut. If price isn't the issue and your lust leans to the Sig, get it. If the cost of the Sig is too steep, then get a used one or go for the XD. The XD might not have the "image" of a Sig, but the XD will serve you well.

As for me, I'm in the market for another 9mm and having the same dilemma. I love both my 226 and XD SC, so it's either a new 228/229 or a 4" (Service model) XD. Frankly, if the funds get rounded up, it's going to be the Sig and most probably a 229 DAK. But, if the money is too much of a stretch, then I'll have no regrets going for another XD. In short, I'm saying that in Frandy's universe, it's strictly a matter of how much to spend. I trust either firearm.

I think you will find the controls of the XD better laid out than the SIG 2009.

Look at how far back the slide lock lever is. That is ridiculously far back IMO, no doubt an effort to mimic how far back that same control is on a classic SIG. However, using a lever with an external arm on the poly pistol makes the length of that arm look goofy.

IMO, right look, right location, falls to the thumb if right handed and can be index fingered by southpaws like me. I also like the mag catch buttons of the XD compared to the Pro's set up.

OK.........IN the pic, what is the Sig thats Cond 1??????? The X-five??????????????????
And dont say its the GRS.........
Whatever it is.....I want one I want one I want one.

Ive shot alot of both and Id take a Sig 229 or XD9 any day of the week.......

Id take an XD over a Sig Pro Any day of the week..........

Shoot well...........

A cocked 'n' locked SIG P226, now you're talking! How much are these babies? I've never seen one in the flesh.

I like my SIGs but not the DA/SA operation. That first DA shot does not group with the rest. IMHO first shot accuracy is paramount.

Wow.....first one Ive seen.........DROOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda like a CZ 75 ISPC Std....just nicer. My guess is on the price.....If you have to ask.....Its too *%&$&* Much! Or at least 1500$....more like 2-2500$

Very nice Competition based Sig...............I thought the E.L. 220's were the holy grail Sig for me, UNTIL NOW....................:D

Shoot well.

I'd have to totally disagree with that. The 2009's controls are very well laid out and very comfortable to use.

That kind of makes this forums useless for recommendations such as in this case then huh.

rjk2475,

How important is the money? You'll spend much more for the Sig and from what I have read on this thread from both Sig and XD owners doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy about spending that much more on Sigs.

You said you like the XD feel better. We know the XD trigger is better. No one seems to have any questions about longevity of either gun nor about reliability or accuracy. Do you want to spend quite a bit more money for a handgun that doesn't feel as a good to you and has a worse trigger?

If you had said a Sig feels better to you and that you have always wanted a Sig, I would say buy a Sig, great gun!

Hell, I've even bought guns that didn't feel as good because I liked the look of the dang thing. Point being, logic doesn't always manifest itself in gun purchases. ;)

I hope you enjoy whatever you get! :)
