After sevral weeks of working on my wife to facilitate the approval of a new purchase it all came down to last night...several of my excuses and rebuttals from my wife in an abbriviated form...
Me: "Home protection"
Her: "You used that for the first gun."

Me: "It's an investment."
Her: "You used that for your second gun. You have plenty of investments (3)."

Me: "The ammunition for this one is cheaper than for the other one."
Her: "We haven't been able to afford any ammunition anyway. You have not shot for over 1/2 a year and when you did shoot you couldn't go that often."
Me: "See, we/I do need a gun that shoots cheaper ammunition."

Me: "I couldn't use any of the ones I already have to carry when and if I get a CHL. (While thinking "Well, I do have that S&W 38 snub, but what good are only 5 shots. ")"
Her: "Well, I'd feel safer if you didn't carry."
Me:"Now you are being naive...(insert recent crime statistics here.)...you just need to watch the news for one whole week and you'll change your mind."

Her: "Well, it sounds you have already made up your mind!"
Me: "Well, you only turn 30 once."
Her: "Let's see...what did I get when I turned 30 last year!?!?"

Anyway, to make the long story longer...after about 10-15 phone calls and about 40 miles today, I now have a PO1 on layaway at a local Academy store awaiting our tax return .

The store clerk got suspicious when I asked how many he had in stock but I quickly explained that I was looking for one that had a NSN# on it and that I had not been able to find one at the other Academy stores. He said: "We have another one in the safe but trust me I know a lot about Nato weapons and you won't find a NSN on one those (meaning PO1's)."
I didn't argue but politely insisted to see the second one. He gets the manager, opens the safe, and LOW AND BEHOLD it's an '03 with a beautiful NSN on it. I smiled ear to ear (I don't smile much) and said "Well, what do you know." He looked at me and while smiling back said: "Well, it sure sounds like you have done your research."

I'm still smiling!

I usually buy my wife some jewelry before suggesting that I buy myself another gun. Actually, it has gotten to the point that when I present the jewelry she will say yes to the gun before asking for it. Congratulations on your purchase though.

You left out one of the most important ones, it was for HER!!! :uhoh:
Then at least she will think you were thinking about her

Re: Po-1

My wife's shoots a PCR as her primary range gun. It fits her small/medium hands very well and she's a pretty good shot with it. I agree with mattf7184 :D

Congrats on the new P-01, you will love it.

But are you serious that you haven't shot in 6 months because you can afford ammo? If so, you need to seriously rethink you purchases. It does you no good to have a pistol if you can't practice with it.

I had a P-01 once. Then I sold. Now I miss it dearly. I just gotta try and explain to her why I am wanting to buy another one. Man, I really miss that gun.

Well, my wife got the last gun........a KT P3AT from 12 Volt.....so now its my turn. Ive taken over her Makarov as a BuG :D Te he he.

You should have a PO1...tell your wife mine said so! I know because my main carry becomes her primary range/desert combat gun. Its a PCRO1 Hybrid.

Good on ya.......the bitch is my wife knows WAY TO MUCH, my fault. When I feel the urge to get another...I get "You dont need it and dont tell me its gonna be a holster mold!"......... :uhoh:

Shoot well.........and congrats........:D

Yo Eric,
Just tell her that you are using because Duncan's wont have it as a "pattern" for at least 6-8 months... :D

BTW...When are we gonna be able to get a CZ Sp-01 to play with??

It wont fly...I already have a PO1 mold and my CCW gun. How about "If I did get it from Duncans, it would take me 8 months to deburr it so I could use the damn thing"................. :cuss:

Shoot well.........

What are the Nato serial numbers? Was it a specific range of numbers? What is special about them?

What makes them special on the P-01's is that they appeared on them for a little while, after the gun passed the requirements to be classified as a NATO gun, and then for some reason were no longer stampedon them. Thus, the P-01's with the NSN on them are a little more rare and harder to find. The one's with the NSN on them also look prettier to me.

Here is a link to the CZ-USA press release that describes the testing the P-01 had to go through to get an NSN on it...

Clipse, I'm sorry to hear you no longer have the P-01. You were one of the people who influenced me into getting one. In fact I was just looking at your P-01 pics last night in an old thread here. What are you carrying now?

But are you serious that you haven't shot in 6 months because you can afford ammo?
Yes, serously with the cost of daycare for 2 kids I seriously could not afford to go shooting - ammo and range fees were just not an option. Last May our day care person fell through and the $ got real low. In fact I stopped visiting the forums to make things easier on myself. My parents are here from Bulgaria and are watching the kids so now and I'll be able to go until they leave. My Dad actually expressed desire to go after looking at my cz 97b and CETME rifle :) .

Eric, I'm currently contemplating how to approach the purchase of one of your fine IWB's ;) and our wedding anneversary is not too far off (May).

Oh, and yes she does know - gently broke the news to her last night. Now she is trying to hold me to an old promise to repaint the inside of our house :uhoh:

DonNikmare, getting a P-01 is great, but did you think about buying some ammo with that money? I would never buy a new pistol if I couldn't even afford to shoot the guns I already have. That's like buying a 2nd car when you can't even afford gas for the first.

Not flaming, just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Not if the 2nd car uses less or less expensive gas (9mm vs .45) and can get to more places ie being able to carry a P-01 and not the 97b. It's also a better gun to let my wife shoot at the range. Look at me ...here I go with the excuses again lol.

I get your point but I'm also attracted to collecting firearms not just shooting them. Therefore, when I run into a peroid during which I can't afford to shoot them as much as I would like I still enjoy having them. It also takes a special occasion to get my wife to go along with purchase - I have had to use the special occasion excuse (in combimation with others) for all but the 1st of my 3 firearms. So naturally, I had to go for something big given that my 30th is coming up :D .

Hey Nik,

How are ya?
Congrats on finding your 'Holy Grail' serial number.

I here ya about the kids thing. I'm finding myself juggling priorities. Like the basketball goal I just installed for the little one, but is it worth it? Umm, get home after work and our boy wants to go out and shoot hoops for an hour - you'll can figure this one out, I'm sure. :D
I can't wait for him to get old enough to go to the range.

Still want to get a P3AT in the near future for VERY indescreet carry.

Hey Steve,

The P3AT looks sweet. My boy is only 1 n 1/2 and likes any type of ball he can throw kick or jump on so I'm sure sports are in his future too.

What do you currently carry the Makarov or that CZ 40 of yours?

Nik

Nik,

I'll carry either one. Just depends on my mood.
The Mak is obviously easier to conceal w/ light/thin clothing. However, the 40B w/ one of Eric's COM2 IWB's conceals VERY well also.

I want the P3AT for pocket carry when having to go w/ tucked-in shirts.
