I perused the old threads and didn't find too much on J&T, so I feel safe posting this.

I recently purchased a 20" Bushmaster AR. I've handled ARs before and I'm extremely fond of the 16" barrel length. So, I'm looking to buy a complete 16" barreled upper for my AR. I'd like to keep my Bushmaster 20" for versatility.

However, I'm on sort of a budget. And I want a straight, 16 inch heavy barrel with NO FLASHHIDER. Which is a fairly rare bird, in these the days of M4geries. A Bushmaster 16" upper would run $395 w/o the B/BC/CH (now I know that damn acronym). Which is a little more than I was hoping to pay. Now I find that I could get the same thing from J&T for $289. Which is a much more appealing price. And not just because it's 17^2.

What can you tell me about J&T? Are their barrels chrome-lined? If they aren't, should I be concerned? Are they good quality barrels? I'm intending to be a casual shooter, so this doesn't need to stand up to 100,000 rounds. But no one wants to deal w/ problems and it may get tapped as a house gun, so I don't want to have to be worried about reliability. If anyone can clue me in, it would be appreciated.

J&T has a good reputation, but their standard barrels aren't chromed lined. The Arfcom crew insists on it, but YMMV.

I bought a J&T upper at a gunshow last Fall, heavy stainless freefloat bbl with anodyzed black aluminum foregrip. Stuck it on my Armalite lower, fastened my Eotech, and was good to go. It's very accurate, though the grip starts to get a little hot after about 50 rounds (more so than the plastic foregrip on my Bushie M4gery upper). No complaints whatsoever. In fact, I'm just waiting for RRA to ship my bolt carrier group to complete my second AR build, using this upper.

Just add the chrome lining on. When I was building my AR, I was deciding between a J&T kit, and a Del-Ton kit. Del-Ton won simply because of a few dollar savings. J&T are supposed to be very good people to deal with.

Glad you learned the acronym, too. Makes typing that much easier. If you are keeping both, you may want to consider an extra B/BC/CH assembly, too.

For J&T Distributing!

J&T Distributing are good people to do business with, my most recent build used a J&T 24" bull barrel upper on a Stag Arms lower receiver, it gives me outstanding accuracy and perfect reliability.

Some AR15.com members are big on chrome lined barrels, most don't think it's really necessary. A chrome lined barrel is designed for combat use, where it might be days or weeks before a rifle can be cleaned, and that's in a hostile environment, like the jungle, the average user in the US has absolutely no need for a chrome lined barrel.

Yep, while some say that chrome is a must, I simply look at all my non-AR rifles that don't have chrome lining. Decisions solved.

Warranty and quality of parts

What is the overall quality of the kits from J&T and Delton? Are they well made with quailty name brand parts? Are the smaller parts cheaply made? Do they back their kits with any type of warranty? It seems that alot of people like their products. But I have never seen one or know anyone that sells them.

Well, I found out from J&T that the Kits only have a 30-day warranty. After that time period you are stuck with the kit even if a part fails. When you look at that RRA has a lifetime warranty on their uppers and lowers and DPMS has three-years. This is a major consideration.
