Factory Mistakes that got shipped

Recently I received a RRA 1911 Custom Wadcutter that had thread lock holding the two piece guide rod together. It took more force than I felt comfortable with when I finally got it apart but it did come apart. The factory sent me a new guide rod and I sent the old one back. No damage to the gun thankfully.

Purchased a first year production Colt .38 Super from an old gent that had a chicken farm in southern Illinois. He had bought it new and only fired it one time, at a coyote about 20 yards away, dumped the whole magazine and did not hit him one time. :cuss: He put it away and never shot it again. When I went to clean it up before putting it out for sale, I found it had a .45 bushing with the skinny .38 barrel! No wonder he missed the coyote, it was a Colt factory goof from 1928!

Late 1980’s, sold a guy a stainless Colt government model, he shot it and put it away in his safe and did not look at it for a few months. When he took it out the slide was rusty red. :what: Somehow an un-blued government slide got mixed in with the stainless ones, Colt replaced it under warranty.

Got an S&W model 22-A in 2 or 3 years ago, S&W forgot to rifle the barrel. :uhoh: After a few weeks we could find nobody that wanted to pay a premium for it so we sent it back to Smith for a new barrel.

A Chinese surplus SKS had the chamber cut in such a way that it was about 1/8†deeper than it should have been, guy brought it back to show me how odd the fired empties looked. I gave him another gun.

After almost 20 years selling guns I am sure there are others I have forgotten…..

A guy I know bought a semi-auto Norinco AK that has the auto sear hole drilled. Came from the factory with it that way.

Here's a shot of the import markings on my recently decosmolined SKS:

Apparently, I am now the proud owner of a YOGU SKS carbine.

About 15 years ago, I bought a new, nickel plated S&W Model 29 with regular ,square grips. During my first range session with it , I noticed that the nickel plating had come off the front of the cylinder and the crane. Sent it back to S&W with a letter asking how much a set of finger groove wood grips would cost. Two weeks later, I got my revolver back with the best nickel plating job I've ever seen on a gun. Also found a set of finger groove grips in the box.
My favorite gun shop recently got a new Ruger double action .357 revolver (Model GS-100?) with no front sight blade.

Stuff happens.

I have a Colt 9mm Commander with the barrel marked ".30 LUGER". Not really a mistake, just Colt using up surplus .30 Luger barrels they made for export. I tried to buy a barrel that was really in .30 Luger, and Colt claimed there was no such thing.

And the best one of all was the CIL ammo headstamped ".45 CLOT". Thousands of rounds got out before anyone noticed.

I have seen one, but the guy wouldn't part with it. He did tell me they were pretty common at one time, and that he had had a box, but sold all but that one.

I have a Ruger GP100 that has the safety manual printed on the barrel!!! :scrutiny: oh wait that's not a mistake.

I have a 24/47 Mauser with a bolt that will not close. I have checked it and the clearance slot for the extractor is too shallow, causing the extractor to hit before the bolt goes home. Brand new, and obviously never proof fired. Got it at an auction with no returns. :scrutiny: Didn't even think, just made the bid on seeing the rifle. :cuss: May get it fixed someday, it is a pretty rifle, and I love the 24/47.

Should have took them back to the gun shop and demanded that they exchange them for '.45 bleed' :D

Bought a new 3 inch GP100. Didn't notice at dealer, but the barrel was off center at least .060". Not canted, just off center. Thankfully I noticed it before I touched off a round; Ruger must've been glad too; they replaced gun real quick....

I've seen several brand new SIG's come into the shop minus the sights and one missing the decocker (no, it wasn't DAO).
