Camp Perry '05

I know there's a few high roaders that do Perry, but I ain't one of them this year.

Hope to see you there in '06 or '07 though.

I'm going to the smallbore championships, both prone and 3p (thats July 19-29).

Rifle SAFS school, for me.

I plan on shooting the P100 and the NTI this year again, but I might not be able to now because of some pretty serious scheduling conflicts.

If you shoot Service Rifle, make sure you go to CMP week rather than NRA week, it's much more fun!

I had planned to go, but I'm thinking I probably shouldn't this year. Which isn't any great loss to the competition, considing my shooting abilities.

If so, when? where? is it too early to make plans?

Actually you are late making plans. You can send for packets of info about Perrys’ schedule and on base housing. The housing fills up so veterans were sending out their housing requests a month ago.

Please tell us what you are shooting this year.

I will be there for Service Rifle Week this year. NRA week is better if you want to shoot more rounds during your stay, but that week has been getting smaller and smaller turnouts and last year was less than 600 shooters I think. Service rifle week on the other hand has been growing and it is usually booked to capacity for P100 and NTI at about 1300 shooters. The CMP week you shoot less, spend agonizing hours in the pits and it is HARD. However if you want the "true" Camp Perry experience you need to shoot service rifle week.

I will be there for the CMP week only this year and most of my team mates are only going for CMP week also this time. Next year I plan on both weeks and maybe long range but that is a little ways away yet.

Darn...all you people are doing Hi Power.

I'm doing SAFS Rifle. Then I'm driving home for a few days. Then I'm doing the M-16 EIC shoot and the Springfield Match. That's all I have the time and money for this year. I'm hoping next year will be my first full HP season.

My Father and I will be there for the JCG match again this year.

SAFS will have to wait until next year.

I'll be out for CMP week this year. Being a first year shooter, I have to attend the SAFS, so I've got that, the P100, the NTI and I'm shooting for the GONH 6-man team for the NTT. This is my first year going to the big leagues, so I'm not expecting to do anything spectacular, but it should be fun.

SAFS is NOT mandatory. In fact I have never gone thru one in all the years i have been going to Perry!

Well, if it is not mandatory, I may cancel my slot, especially if the school is geared more for shooters who are very new to the game. Besides, I don't want the Army guys trying to coach me out of my bad canting habit or not using the pad of my trigger finger on the trigger.

No they do better than that.
They teach you to load 10 rounds in a mag for the new folks so they go out to the range on presidents day and fire 10 shots with out the mag change. Sorry that was the marine school not the army. Had a young lady do that on my target last year and she was quite baffled when her score did not count. Have seen it a few times. If you have not fired before its a great class to take as you get some very good shooters working with you.
