My wife and I finished shooting a local match yesterday. I go all the time, but she comes out maybe once a year. Last year she missed going, and this year she mentioned wanting to go and off we went. The challenge is finding a babysitter on a Saturday.
Her quote, " I LIKE shooting steel".

She did pretty good for shooting once a year.
She shot a 1911 Kimber with a Kimber .22lr conversion kit. 4 10 round mags.

Anyone else have any luck with bringing out your significant other?
Has their competition experience been positive or otherwise?
thanks,
John L

Still working on it.......

If you can buy them an entire new wardrobe in complimentary styles and colors they will become avid shooters.)

Women, sheesh..... :neener:

I introduced my new Sweetie and her 14yr old son to firearms this past New Years. Neither had ever been around them (even though Mom is an ol country gal). We went out to the parents farm and was shooting around dusk.................very impressive. I only had my pistols with me, but she fell in love with my 1858 cap & ball and the green-parked SA 1911-A1. The .357 rounds in my Security Six were VERY impressive at dusk - kinda scared her a bit, but the boy LOVED it. :)

I know I'll be training them both in the finer shooting arts in the next few years. :D

My Wife Drags ME!

My wife is so hooked on shooting it is unreal!
She shoots trap, hi-power rifle, Centerfire pistol, .22 rimfire local competition, and wants to shoot cowboy action.

We are both NRA Basic Pistol instructors.

We both really enjoy shooting but, she shoots more than I do...

Sure keeps me busy reloading. I am just beginning to introduce her to the wonderful world of reloading so she can "roll her own".

We have a great time at the range!

Yes, I am lucky...Ammo Poor...But, Lucky!

My girlfriend told me when we met that she shot a little bit.... I figured here was something we had in common as I shot "a little bit" as well. Well turns out she is the Womens ICORE limited Champion 5 years running, sponsored by some big names, and is the only female A class shooter for ICORE in the world. Yeah she shoots a little.
On the plus side she's a great coach for my son and I, freely loans me whatever I need, loads bullets for me while I work out of the area, and is pretty darn cute. She has got me shooting in C class in my very first match and we are having a great time. We are looking at starting my 11 year old son in revolver matches at teh end of the year, shooting her spare 686.
I have heard there are more than a few guys who have easily bruised egos that might not enjoy this situation, but so far it works for me!!

Wow, I thought I was about the only woman in the world who drags her husband to the range rather than the other way around... :D

I taught my wife to shoot & she liked the idea that I wasn't patronizing toward women & firearms. See, her last beau didn't want to "worry her little head" about firearms & never took her along.

She's not an avid shooter, but was good enough to shoot IDPA safely and in a respectable time.

It is tougher to get her out since our boy arrived, since it can be a feat to find a good babysitter.

Dave:
"Shot a little bit"...LOL

Probably didn't want to run off guys with fragile egos who were otherwise decent fellows.

BTW, any gal who has a "spare 686," is all right in my book.

Dave, it's very refreshing to see a guy that truly knows that women are inherently better shots than men are and doesn't see it as a bad thing. I know more guys that go completely off-side when their ladies do so than you can shake a stick at. I tell them about how John Wayne's real name was Marion and other than his college football, he never did anything real.
I'd bet that you're very good at teaching new female shooters.
"...ICORE..." I was going to ask, but looked. For the rest of ya'll. Go here. http://www.icore.org/. Sounds like fun to me.
"...her last beau..." Was a twit. Likely afraid she'd out shoot him. Probably would too.
"...Still working on it..." It's not the end of the world. Some people just aren't interested and there's no point trying to get them interested. Any more than it is trying to get the other half to do anything else. For most of the guys I know, it's their night out with the boys, so to speak. And her's without you there. However, if you're in a club, and they run a turkey shoot, before Xmas, invite her. Note: The operative word is 'invite'.

My wife has been shooting and enjoying USPSA with me for about 5 years. Last year I introduced her to 3-gunning.... talk about letting the genie out of the bottle. She's the one that maintains the calendar for when all the local clubs are holding matches and *tells* me what matches we're going to on a given weekend. We even take shooting vacations and go to large out of state matches (tacking on a few extra days for general sightseeing if the destination has anything to see/do).

This year she shot the Superstition Mountain 3-gun match for the first time (her first large 3-gun match). One of the awards that they give out is one for "last but not dead". Basically, it's the person with the lowest score that completed each stage (DQs and zeroes don't count). I was a little nervous about how she would take it, but when she was called up she was all happy and said "All right, free match entry for next year!" She's certainly in it for the fun. :D

My wife and I shoot IDPA and IPSC, mostly IDPA. She usually winds up beating three fourths of the men. Kind of humbling to those guys. She is pretty cute so that makes it even worse.

Well, welcome to The High Road to Dave Wilson and MP5_guy!!!!!! Great first posts to both of you.

Dave, do you loan her out (with her permission of course) for shooting lessons? I would dearly love to shoot with her and learn from her. I fancy myself as a revolver guy (it is my own delusion that no one can take from me), but if she is an A-class shooter there is PLENTY I could learn from her. Congrats on the C first outing, that is more than most comprehend and some fine shooting of your own. I keep threatening to shoot the next USPSA match with one of my revolvers, the only excuse I have left is a holster so when I get a suitable holster I will be outed. Good for you not being intimidated or irritated that she is a first class shooter!!

MP5_guy, congrats to you and your wife on being able to shoot the matches and enjoy them together. It is a rare thing from my experience, and is to be cherished. Give her best wishes from lots of guys that enjoy the shooting and comraderie of a match regardless of who the competitor is. You had best get a couple more practices a month than she does, otherwise the ride home could get tiresome :)

For me? Well, it will be some time before my wife shoots matches with me. Small kids and other interests have kept if from happening so far, but she is interested. I can only hope the time comes soon. You guys that shoot matches with your wife or significant other are lucky, whether you realize it or not.
