Just ordered a couple new-in-wrapper USGI 30 rounders for my M1 Carbine.

Any thoughts? Especially as to the reliability in a semi-auto M1.

I know these were really meant for the select fire M2, and I believe they hold the bolt open after last shot. I have plenty of 15 rounders so I thought these might fill out the collection....though I imagine the tedium of loading 30 rounds just to plink with might get old! :)

From what I have read/heard the USGI 30 rounders work fine. Though I can' speak from experiance live in the PRK.

My Carbine is a little on the loose side too I think its kinda worn out... needs a new barrel anyways.

The reliability problems that I had were with the aftermarket 30 round mags maked "M2". USGI mags should work just fine.

I think that the follower on the 30 round mag acts as the bolt-hold-open.

Thats what I heard, too. In general I try to go with factory/original mags.
Though, some would probably differ.

Luchtaine- Yeah, I saw the "CA with the circle and red line through it" when I ordered 'em. Though, isn;t there one state (maybe New Jersey) that considers the little M1 carbine an illegal "assault rifle"?

Though I must admit, having lived in Maryland for 99% of my life, it does feel weird to walk out of the shop with a handgun/"assault rifle" the same day you buy it!

I've got a couple of the USGI 30 round mags for my carbine, they are pretty nice, kinda heavy when fully loaded though.. watchout if you have a weak mag catch spring

Yes but I am only going to be here another year max hurray. Makeing a list for when I get to my new freer state.

and the list keeps growning. I guess I will start with mags for the M1a though.

how much work is involved in putting a new barrel on a m1 carbine since carbine people are probably reading this?

in new jersey, the M1 is a scary bullet-spraying indescriminate killing machine that works best on the elderly and babies.

in the rest of the country, the M1 is a proud symbol of our armed forces heritage.

Outside California, you might look for Belgian FN manufacture 30 rd mags at the gun shows. They are marked AYP in a script logo on the front of the mag body. The Y is larger than the other letters. There have been forgeries through theyears of the AYPs But never with the correct logo. These are reliable magazines. They are wrapped like the GI mags.

I haven't had much luck with the 30 round mags, I usually stick with the 15s. So far I haven't ever needed the extra 15 shots without the few seconds needed to change mags available.
