NO Looters step up to ambush..........

lol...if I were in NO, I'd be open carrying the AR...and a bunch of extra mags.

I used to live there, it's a rotten, corrupt, wicked place.

Remember too, everyone with a lick of sense and 2 nickels to rub together left a day or 2 before the hurricane. All that's left are the totally poor and totally stupid (which in America is basically the same thing). It's a pretty low level of society that makes up the majority of the population down there right now.

...not that the NOPD is that much better.

One thing is for sure, I am damn glad not to be anywhere near that place tonight.

Open carry of a rifle is kind of a moot point since you probably wont need to wander very far. You should have water and supplies in the attic already if you stayed. Your only concern should be protecting your property and your life. You wont have to kill a ton of looters to create a scarecrow effect around your house.

In this situation I would have emptied out the gun safe and driven the miata (with all the valuable spare parts in the trunk) with both computers to dry ground and just waited for it to die down. I would have all the posessions I care about and all the means to defend it with. I would probably ditch the passenger seat and fill it with guns and tins of food. Everythign else can be replaced with insurance money.

I see a few of you mention open carry. Why would carrying openly in a situation like this be any different than carrying openly during a non-SHTF situation? I can't see how the disadvantages just "go away" in a situation like this. The bad guys would probably be MORE likely to shoot you to increase their arsenal. I imagine even people that were generally pretty good would think about ways to disarm you and take the weapon for themself. I would still try to maintain a low profile, but I would not hesitate to shoot.

The worst of human nature is now ruling the flooded streets of New Orleans.
There are many more helping each other out than there are looting...there were "scum" before Katrina.....now that coverage is concentrated on the "Big Easy" the most reprehensible behavior will get "glorified" coverage. Up and down the Gulf Coast ordinary citizens are are making heroic efforts and extending succor by peforming little acts of kindness. Get out of your "Heart of Darkness" mentality.......forego your Starbucks tomorrow, or your Skol...or another pack of "cancer sticks" ......and pledge a few bucks..these people need help ! We are dealing with one of the WORST national disasters in our nation's history ! This is when it counts.....stick together as a nation.

When the S Hits the F, the absolute worst of human nature comes out as there is no structure and no authority to keep it under control
In a few cases perhaps....mostly the folks down there are pulling together....hospital emplyees working round the clock ect.

-regards

If I was there I'd be equally worried about being shot in the back by someone who believes that "looters should be shot on sight" and "anyone carrying openly must be a looter". Especially since I'd probably be carrying my AK.

Hmmm...How about a donation to the Red Cross or similar group by a nice pro gun, pro liberty website?

Anybody know of one? :neener:

The reason you shoot looters stealing TV's has nothing to do with the theft of the TV or the insurance money or getting killed for stealing.

It's because stealing TV's is Step 1 in the downward spiral into total anarchy. At the lower steps is rape, murder, armed gangs roaming the streets preventing rescues and help from reaching people who then suffer and die...oh wait, that's where we are now. Because we didn't shoot the scumbags stealing TV's in Step 1, now we're at anarchy. Now we get to watch as people die from lack of assistance. As hospitals come under seige, trucks with fuel and medical supplies are jacked, the whole rescue operation gets suspended to deal with a 'lawlessness' problem that has become so bad it directly affects the ability of the country to deal with this situation in anything resembling a 'normal' manner.

As if the job at hand wasn't hard enough.

Screw the insurance. It's about keeping the city from descending into chaos. Too late now. Now we play catch up.
