Did you know that Diet Pepsi causes a burning sensation as it's blown out one's nose? :D
LOL!

omg. so does PBR.

this is one of the more interesting threads i've read on THR.

you folks are fairly ... intense ... ;)

Let me see. Get on the bus, and give the nice officer my weapons? Where are we going again? And whats that motto over the gate? :scrutiny:

No, I don't think so. Lack of planing on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

In times like these, I think the ultimate question we must all ask of ourselves is "Daq taH, joq ghobe' Daq taH?"

There will be 24" of snow in death valley in july and the cubs and sox will both win the world series the same year or from my dead hand before rigormortise sets in and the barrel is still hot!

P.S. I don't hate cops but I've seen enough bad apples.

The late news said that the death toll would be in the thousands, the city will have to be abandoned for several months, the refugees are to be distributed among other cities. There is no power, fuel, water, refrigeration, air conditioning. The hospitals have no power or light and are desperately short of all medical disposables, medicine and blood.
Civilian boat owners from Monroe, LA have been refused permission to run rescue missions in New Orleans as it is too dangerous. The dopers have looted the drug stores and the gun stores. There are some flat boat owners in NO running evacuation missions.
Worse news -- the NOPD has been reported looting. Would you give up your gun to them?

Give up a fiearm?

I don't think so. Most of my points have been already mentioned, likelyhood of return, responsibility for another's actions, etc. The biggest thing in my mind, though, is that in a true SHTF scenario such as New Orleans I won't have any extra arms to dole out. Moving to safe territory would entail a rifle for dealing with cretins, a shotgun for small game and backup to the rifle, a .22 for small game (if you're living on it you better have several hunters) and a handgun for personal security. It's my responsibility to arm myself and close family so there are no extras. Aside from that, the National Guard has been called in and has been and will be for every disaster of this magnitude in recent times. The NOPD has been told in no uncertain terms by the Mayor and Governor that unless they are immediately involved in releif coordination they are to bug out with the citizenry. Maybe some of them are just looking for free guns?

Why don;t they just steal the guns, the cops are stealing everything else, why not firearms too.

No and YES

Would I give "the police dept" any of my frearms? NO.

Would I give some cop buddies any of my firearms? YES. I would include ammo and a block of instruction.

last year sold a pair of glasses to an ATF chic

She told me of a room CHOC FULL of confiscated firearms. Sounds like the govt. has plenty to me... I think I'd hang on to mine...

Not in the described scenario as it appears to be, as others have stated, a lie designed to more easily manage what is close to becoming a mob.

A reporter asked a LA State Police official "Is it true that you guys are asking citizens to loan cops assault rifles and shotguns?" The official said 'That is the first I have heard of that. We have plenty of guns, and don't need them from citizens."

This tells me that the N.O. police a BS'ing the people down there.

I doubt they will be "asking" for much longer.

The real question for those remaining will become: Do you evacuate on the condition of giving up your guns to the cops, or do you hold on to your guns and stay?

Loaner

A couple points:
They could have solved two probs at once by comandeering gun store and Wal Mart guns last week.
I would be happy to lend them my Hi-Standard HD, if they bought 500 rounds of CCI to go with it @ $10.00/round.
As a Texas-ex, I think the stupidity and cupidity of the state and city gummint is giving Suthruners a bad image.

Or...it could be indicative of flawed and/or biased reporting.

If the officers of NOLA are truly equipped with only a sidearm, I feel sorry for them. That is a long gun situation if ever there was one. Sounds like it's time to open the evidence lockers and pass out everything available. Even a side by side 12 gauge would feel awful good in my hands over just my sidearm.

But give them mine? Yeah. Right.

absolutely not, no friggin' way would i give them my guns. not one.
And what makes anyone believe they wouldn't just take 'em and what would y'all do if they did - order ya to give 'em up that is?

Well, if you were being ordered to give up a longgun because the police don't have them, I'd think you'd have a built-in advantage right there, no?

Very simple.

for me proper planning prevents piss pour performance on my part

for them piss poor planning precedes piss poor performance...

Inother words i was ready, you were not... get over it and get with it.

werewolf- what would i do? dunno... probably walk away w/ my guns as long as they wouldn't force the issue... but, like i said, i would not give up any, not a single one, of my guns - especially given the scenario that is unfolding there: crooked cops, and the urgent need for self preservation.

so... what if they force the issue? well, i'm not giving 'em my guns. i need them, and my survival is far more important to me than their survival.

Not only would I not do this on principle, with the stories I've heard about New Orleans police, there'd never be a chance I'd loan my guns.

"Sure thing officer Skippy, I left them locked up in the basement of my house back there. Here, you'll want to take this snorkle with you when you go get them"

In other words..."I don't friggin' think so!"
