How hard is it for US guns to be accquired by shooters and gun stores in other countries?

It's not illegal. It's not a lot fun to get an export licence, and having to complete the necessaay paperwork for each shipment is a pain. The real problem are the importation, customs regulations and other laws (e.g. barrel proof requirements in Great Britain) of the importing country.

Expanding on this...

You need an export license to send a gun to another country, correct?

How does one go about applying for one?

To get stuff form the US the Department of Defence has to approve the export.

Furthermore, besides the incredible bureaucracy you would have to wade through, lots of items are 'sensitive' and not allowed to be exported, EVER. So there went my plans to buy an AR in 6.8mmSPC. It's not allowed to be exported. And .50 rifles, they're too sensitive to be exported.

In essence, the export process is completely controlled, and highly bureaucratized and militarized.

That's just the impression I got. And it's sad, because US prices are great, and Canada's import laws are great, so it could be a winning combination if not for the defence department.

The reason I'm asking is because I have someone in Sweden that wants to purchase an XD9 I have for sale. He has everything lined up on his end, I just need to find out how to export it without going to prison.

I believe a lot of this started under Jimmah Carter

How is a shooter in Alberta, Canada a threat to the US?

Sorry about our laws, Lucky. We are having a hard time just keeping 50 caliber rifles legal in the US
