My usual carry is a P-11, I have 3 mags all with the finger extension. I use a Fobus paddle holster for convenience. (we had some places off-limits here). I trust the 9mm especially with 3 mags, however I've been thinking lately about depending on the Kel-Tec in a life or death situation. Among others, I also carry a .40 Kimber Ultra Carry II, and a 45 cal Taurus PT 745. I'm going to re-evaluate the trade off of size and weight to dependability. Maybe if I run 4-500 rounds through the P-II I may feel different. It is light and easy to carry though. Good Luck, I hope if you buy one, it's a good one out of the box.

I would carry the Kimber or the P-11. Ofthe three you have listed I would be the most nervous about the Taurus.

So I am sort of thinking about buying a Kel-Tec. Probally the 380 P3AT version.

I have never shot a Kel-Tec. How is their reliablity record and quality?

Yay. Love the gun, love the customer service. Only downside is having to clean the lint out of it every couple of months.

Oh yeah I have a P3AT parkerized I got for 250 at a gun show.

I've always wanted to buy a used Kel-Tec that was a supposed jam-o-matic and test it for myself. It would make a good experiment.
If it does jam, you can always send it back to them and they will fix it up good for you. Never heard anything but incredible stories about their customer service.

I've had a P32 for a couple of years. No complaints. It's completely reliable with ball or Silvertips -- it has never malfunctioned in many hundreds of rounds. I don't carry it often, as I normally carry a Glock 9mm, though I did wear it in a pocket holster to a funeral last week where a big gun would have been obvious. I have no qualms about carrying it, except for the weak .32 chambering.

So, yay, with the caveat about the weak .32/.380 calibers.

If you're going to get a Kel-Tec. you might want to wait until they come out with whatever they're going to come out with 1Q 2006. Nobody who's willing to talk knows what it is. Nobody who knows is willing to talk. Might want to hold off buying that Rohrbaugh, too. What Kel-Tec's coming out with may push the R9s off the radar screen (or force Rohrbaugh to move up the caliber scale). Kel-Tec is clearly bent on conquering the world. They might do it, too.

What like a 40 caliber p3at sized gun? That would be awesome. Kind of like the "little cricket" from men in black.

edit: oooh like a pistol version of the 9" SU16 SBR. Hotness.

My P11 has worked flawlessly out of the box, although I can't say it's a "fun" gun to shoot. It is very concealable and its performance at the range makes me comfortable trusting it as my carry gun. The long trigger pull is a bit disconcerting at first, and slows down the rate of fire a bit, but it's another thing to get used to.

I don't have experience with the other models, so I'll let others' comments stand regarding those. I do understand that Kel-Tec customer service is top-notch, which made me feel comfortable taking the dive.

I have had good & bad experiences with Kel-Tecs. I currently own 3:
1 P40
2 P32

The P32s have been 100% reliable & easy enough to shoot that my wife prefers it as her small gun. The P40 started off as a drama queen, but Kel-tec service smacked some sense into the prickly BEE-EYE-TEE-CEE-AITCH and she's been relaible & compliant ever since.

FWIW, the P40 (P11 chambered for .40S&W) kicks like a mule. Makes a S&W640 stoked with 125gr .357mag feel downright cushy.

Glad you started this thread.

I was thinking of my next pistol being the Kal Tec .380 but my basis was only its weight/size.

I wanted to know more about them.

My normal carry piece is a Ruger SP101 .357. I think there might be a place for a .380 backup in one of those pocket holsters.

P32 Rules, it RULES!

I have a P32. It is a very reliable gun. That being said I performed the fluff and buff procedure. I found two burrs, one on the slide rail and one in the firing pin hole that surly would have caused a FTF in the future. I'm not saying they all need to be buffed out BUT they ALL need to be inspected, cleaned and reassembled properly before using it for carry.
