Scam auction?

What makes you think this isnt real?

I am not sure what makes you think this is a scam. It looks like any other auction, unless I am missing something. It ahs 9 days left and no bidders. The person started it at 1 cent and it will assuredly go up from there. This is for an auction, not a sell price of the gun, if that is what you are referring to.

Maybe I missed something.

I know its an auction. But whats to stop people from just bidding 1 cent at a time? The gun could very well go for a couple of bucks.

Fox,

Don't get your hopes up. The first few days will be quiet with a few folks dinking around with chump change. When the last day rolls around the serious bidders will start to show and the action will get truely serious the last 2 hours. By the time the gun "sells" it will have reached at least 80% of the market price. No one that wants to get a deal will let someone win it for 0.01$ more than them if they can help it.

nope

This site uses a 15 minute rule and probably a limiter on someone putting 1 penny in at a time. Also, if I was interested, I could put in $500 and it would autobid for me up to the limit. Therefore, if I bid Max $500 and you stopped bidding at $250, I would get it at $265 or something similar. Most web sites make you bid in increments that get larger as the price goes up. Example, you can bid in $1 increments up to $50, then $5 increments to $500, etc.

You will notice that their other guns also start at 1 cent. They do this to get interest, knowing that having an active bidding war can drive the price even higher than if they put a high reserve amount etc. This way, the gun generates excitement and someone will actually bid higher than they normally would because they were in it from the beginning and dont want to lose out now.

Basic economics and capitalism, my friend. ;)

There are auctions like this all the time on GB, and I've never seen one that was along the lines of the mythical "$50 Porsche". The market dictates the price.

Besides, for a seller with such a high rating, considering this a scam is a huge step (off a cliff).

Most of the stuff I sell on eBay I start at 0.01. Never had things go for low bucks.

I take it this is the first time you have seen a penny auction? I promise you that it will not sell for a couple of bucks. It will sell for a fair price. Sometimes if you get lucky, you can get a gun for a little less than market value but you have to get real lucky. If you happen to win a gun that is valued at $500 but your winning bid is only $4.76, what do you think the chances are that the seller will sell you the gun at such a huge loss?

I won an auction for a gun that was worth about $250 and IIRC, my winning bid was something like $55. I never heard from the seller. I emailed him several times but he just blew me off as if I hadn't won the auction. He relisted a few weeks later and said there were problems with the auction that is why he had to end it early. The thing is, he didn't end it early at all, I won it fair and square. I left him negative feedback and he tried to leave me the same but I had the auction site remove his bogus feedback. Be careful, not everyone is honest out there. Remember, you are dealing with a lot of gunstore owners and they are not known as being the most honest people in the world.

Yeah its the first time Ive seen one. Im just thinking about if no one so the auction but one person. Bam, there you go.

Live and learn Fox. When something seems too good it usually is. This time the price didn't stay in the basement.
