Is The High Road.Org connected some way with the firing line.com? I have problems there and I'm seeking help. Thanks.........Creeker

It seems The Firing Line is off line for some reason. Im sure they will have it up and running soon.

No. Most of us migrated here from TFL when it went off line back in Dec 02. Since then we have made a home here thanks to Oleg.

TFL might be offline for a bit for whatever reason but I'm sure it will be back up shortly.

Only problem I'm having with TFL is that it's not working today and a slow day it is on every other forum.

I came over here through a chance discovery after TFL closed several years back. Used to spend the majority of my online time over there. After they started back up I didn't go over there as much.

The reason I asked is I've been blocked from posting there. I don't know why and they will not reply to my repeated email or email sent by others on my behalf. Friend Lloyd Smale posted "on forum" there for me with no results. Guess they really don't care. For this reason I started the thread.

This forum and theirs are places I like to visit. Not sure I like one better than the other but I would at least like to visit tfl. But alas I'm blocked and this will be my last attempt to get things settled. If this fails, I'm finished.

Just a heads up. One of the stronger themes on THR (and TFL and GT for that matter) is that we don't badmouth other gun forums. (DU is not a gun forum  )

So, don't get too far afield in your public comments about them.

Questions about service outages are definitely ok.

If you are having access problems and you have no idea why and PM's to that site's mods aren't getting answered it is probably ok to ask one of the other forums mods (they're an incestuous group) to look into it. Can't promise they will but I'm sure they'll try.

Bannings and such, however, are private matters between the bannees and and the forum's mods, don't go to another forum to air your grievances. that'll get a thread locked down real quick.

Many of the moderators here double as mods over at TFL. Seek those people out and I'm sure they can help (or at least tell you what the trouble is). Tamara is one that comes to mind. I'm sure there are many others.

So all will know Capt. Charlie has sent me a PM. I'm sure he'll do what he can. As for bad mouthing TFL I really have no complaints other than I can't get through and no one has been willing to help till now. Please I'm placing no blame. The trouble could very well be a tech problem. Any way we'll see what happens. God Bless.............Creeker

Just Jim:

Since everyone else seems to be busy, (or just too polite) I'll say it:

1. If you don't like a site.....DON'T GO THERE.
No one is forcing you to join a forum. If you don't like the way it's run...MOVE ON.

2. One thing that raises hackles is joining a forum and using it to bad mouth another forum. No one likes that.
If you have a problem with another forum....take it up with them.
We don't want to hear about it.

3. Forums are PRIVATE property.
Want to say whatever happens to be on your mind, that's fine, but do it on public property.
These forums are private property and there IS no freedom of speech on a privately owned forum.
If the owners and mods don't like something, they can either shut it down or, if they want, show you the door.

Your sole remedy is to either play by their rules, or LEAVE.

Last, one big reason TFL is one of the classiest forums on the internet is, the people running it don't allow the usual BS, yelling and screaming, and name calling others allow.
Those forums are easy to recognise.....the General Discussion forum's are the most active, with the gun forums getting little business.
On many of them, it's pretty much anything goes.

We, who are members, kind of like being able to engage in reasoned, gentlemanly discussions about firearms, without them turning into flame contests.
There's a difference between debates and arguments.
Here we do debates.

So, those are the rules on THIS forum.
Per the mods and owners, you can either play by the rules here, or leave.

dfariswheel speaks truth. :)

Now, if you haven't done anything against their rules of conduct or otherwise gave 'em a reason to show you the door, it's possible your IP Internet Address was caught in a block that had a repeat offender in it.

Ocassionally a troll will keep re-registering, and the time comes when a mod staff will ban a block of numbers.. essentially after banning 123 Poplar St, 143 Poplar St, 432 Poplar St, etc, they'll just ban all of Poplar St.

Now if you're on Polar St as well, you get caught in someone else's ban.

So it's worth contacting the staff to make sure, if you really haven't done anything to get banned.

-K

(but yeah, they've been down the last couple days it seems)

And they are still down, just checked.

I changed some things on my profile and I've never been able to post again. What surpised me was the post Lloyd made on my behalf that went unanswered by the staff.

We generally try to avoid blocking an IPA for that very reason, but we recently had one particularly troublesome critter that left us little alternative but to do that. Is it possible you got caught in the crossfire? I don't know, but when we come back online (which I thought would be by now :( ), I'll dig into it.

It troubles me that you received no reply from anyone at TFL. I know from working behind the scenes with the other staff at TFL, that, while we tolerate less nonsense than a lot of other forums, they are conscientious and diligent about responding to Member's concerns and problems. (Note the capital "M" on members. That is Rich L.'s idea, and it speaks of the importance he places on TFL Members  ) I can say with certainty that you weren't ignored, and that somehow, your communication must have slipped between the cracks.

Give me a day or two to work on this after we come back online, and I'll have an answer for you.

Honestly, I don't know where the notion that TFL mods are unduly heavy-handed comes from. That hasn't been my experiece. Seems to me that TFL and THR are about even with respect to tolerance of misbehavior. I consider both of these forums to be good, clean sources of information and, in general, good places to hang out. I don't see moderators stepping in often, unless they're offering their own contribution to the discussion (always nice to see). Occasionally, you see a warning or a lock when a discussion has gone south into personal attack mode, but it's really not all that often compared to other forums b/c, by and large, members understand that they must conduct themselves in a dignified fashion.

Freedom of speech relates to the prohibitions on GOVERNMENTAL restriction of speech.

This forum is on a computer and website that are paid for by someone else's money. That gives the person(s) paying the bills the right to restrict the content on THEIR computer and on THEIR internet website.

Effectively, you are leaving a message on private property when you post here and the owner of the property reserves the right to control what messages are left.

You are more than welcome to pay for a computer and website and start your own forum with nearly any kind of content you want with the foreknowledge and assurance that the government will not restrict what you put on it. THAT is freedom of speech...

[edit]Due to some deletions on this thread, these comments may seem bit random and pointless... But there WAS a point, and it was a really good one--trust me. :D[/edit]

To quote Kaylee, "dfariswheel speaks truth" as does carebear.

I have deleted several posts in this thread (how completely draconian of me!)

This thread, or indeed any thread on THR, will not be used to disparage any other forum whose purpose it is to increase the positive aspects of firearms and promote the RKBA. TFL is a shining light in those respects.

LAH - I think I can say with certainty that I know what happened. You said you changed some things in your profile. I'd be willing to bet big bucks that one of those things was your email address. When an email address is changed, your account is suspended and an email is automatically sent to you. This is to confirm that your new address is a legitimate one. If you fail to respond to that email, your account remains suspended - you can't post. (This is true not only on TFL but also here on THR as well.)

I will check your account on TFL when it comes back online and if that is the case, I will send another email to you. Be sure to respond to it in order to resume your account over there.

This is true, I changed my address but I did respond to the email sent to my new address and in fact I responded several times over several weeks. The results were the same. If I had the knowledge to go back through my email that far I could give the names of whom I contacted. To be fair I'm not sure all were MODS.

But be sure the "contact us" link was used several times also. I began using TFL with a webtv account. Once I went to 'puter I was with AOL. From there to compuserve. Through those changes of email address' I had no problems.

Thanks for the help.............Creeker

Very interesting, Creeker. I'm not sure what went wrong. It certainly sounds like you know what to do to change your email address. If you can find your old emails and let me know in a PM who you contacted, I would appreciate it, more from a curiosity standpoint than anything else.

TFL is still down, but we'll get to the bottom of the problem.

We will provide all the info we can. I know the more you have the better the chance of fixing the problem. Thanks H.

My posts on TFL sometimes push the envelope, but in all honesty the Mod's and Admin's over there are excellent, and fair. I'll respond to a stupid post, or get into it with a member making a crack here and there, but the poor Mod's step in like a ref in a hockey fight, and just cool things off. If they were that harsh I'd be kicked long ago.

I have been on many gun boards over the years and have finally settled into 3 boards which I frequent and to which I post. THR, TFL and TFF. I stay with these 3 because of the folks on them and the fairness of the moderators. All 3 are excellent boards with intelligence far outrunning stupidity.
