Anyone know where to find a good deal on 7.62x39? Lately the lowest I've seen cases(1000rds) for is $150.

If you find out please let me know! mine are starving. $150 per 1000rds if they have any in stock that is the question! just like my least favorite place to order ... natchezss.com they are quick to put something on "special" or sale, and that won't have a single box, and then when they do get some in it skyrockets again! last time i was home on leave i bought 1000rds for $119 otd, but i didn't want to tote them back across country so I left them with my dad, i sure wish i had them now!:)

I guess i was lucky to get 1,000 rds. of Barnaul, considered the best cheap ammo when i did. I only paid $120 after shipping. That was b4 the ammo crisis.

$150's as low as you're going to find nowadays. I had 1000 pre-paid for 109, right before the crisis---took 8 months for them to fill my order. I'm thinking about buyign more, already, because at the rate it took to fill that order, I'll be out of my 1,300 something rounds by the time they get it to me. And yes, the price has gone to 150, as well.

I've seen 762x39 advertised at $189.00 per thousand but not at $150.00. They did not have it in stock either!

Guys, $3/box is not bad considering everything else is realistically 2-4x's
that. Way back when before the days of chinese imports and the days
before russian imports, you were lucky to find $6/box. Adjusted for
inflation, even this would be about $8 now --still less than many other
centerfire rifle rds.

Adjust your shooting like the rising price of gasoline. Just like making
each gallon count by not driving 85 mph, make each shot count by
shooting slower and hitting the target.

That's as cheap as you're going to find it now days.

500 rds for $80 or so is the going rate, I haven't found anything cheaper.

I remember a couple of years ago buying a case of 1000 for $70.

The last time I went to the big Indy gunshow, they had cases for $70. I was stupid and only bought two of them. At the time, it was not all that much cheaper than normal. I could buy cases for $80 all day long before Woff decided to fix prices on us.

Somebody in America needs to make a good inexpensive 7.62 load that can compeat with the Russians. I wish CCI would make a Blazer round and sell it for about $100 pre 1000. I'm sure they can do it and make a small profit. The thing is, they would be making a small profit MANY MANY times. People tend to buy AK ammo by the case not the box. If CCI did this, they would have a nice corner of the market for the people that are ammo starved.

Lucky for me, I had been stocking up on AK ammo for a couple of years and I still think I have enough to see me through until they start lowering the prices. It is getting to where I am watching my ammo now though. I have a case or two left so that should tide me over for 6 more months if I go easy.

+1 Thin Black Line. Not only do I try to make every shot count but I am gearing up to reload 7.62X39.

I have noticed a number of AK shooters who seem hell bent on burning up ammo as quickly as possible. Doing that might be fun but now it is getting expensive just like it would be for every other centerfire rifle caliber.

I can get

brass cased 5.56 for cheaper than that. Looks like I'll be shooting the AR/Daewoo instead.

The main allure of the Ak was that it was cheap to shoot. With ammo prices being more equal now, I have the feeling AK sales won't be so hot anymore.

Around here, milsurp .308 ammo is going for the same price as wolf x39 ammo. That just means my SKS can stay home from the range with my Fal taking its place.

I would also like to know when the gate opens and lets the import ammo in. the last case I boght was $160 per 1080 rnds. not including s&h. The last two gun shows I went to did not have ANY 5.45x39. Even the 7.62x39 is expensive and hard to find lately. I may have to buy reloading equipement for these calibres or put them in a display case:banghead:

I just broke down and bought some 5.45 7N6 from kvar, $324 shipped for 2160 rounds (exactly 150 shipped per 1000). At least its real military ammo. 7.62x39 for 170+ is a joke. I'll get out of AKs, or get one in 5.56. The big reason I got in to AKs a year and a half ago was the cheap ammo.

Sometimes you can find a deal at Sportsmans Guide, especially if have a coupon or use one of the coupons from gunsnet.net. Otherwise, everyplace I've seen 7.62x39 lately has been $3/box at best.

This is what I did during the last long dry spell. Switch from the AK to the
SKS and you also just tend to shoot less/slower.

I'll have to dig up my dies, but I'm not all that worried about it. I developed
loads that even used 110g carbine bullets in a pinch. They kind of sucked,
but they still went bang. I kept reloading PMC brass over and over. I
still have a couple hundred or so reloads sitting around from a decade ago.
