How open are you at work?

I'm quite open about my interest in firearms as are many others in the University department I work in. Several of the faculty are hunters or competative shooters. No carry at work because of state laws against concealed carry in school buildings. Many students who go to school here are hunters. If living on campus they must surrender their guns into a "Gun Room" in the dorm and check them out when needed as they are leaving the building.

I suppose I should count my blessings. I work with a bunch of gun lovers. I mentioned last spring I was getting my CWP to my boss last spring for the application and she went off on how she has this gun and that gun. One for her car, etc., etc. And I even carry concealed to work and no one cares.

Hmmm ...
Most folks in my office don't know, but the ones that have been there for a few years have probably picked it up. The owner of another business that shares office space with us stopped by earlier to chat about ankle holsters.

I'm in the SF Bay area. 'Nuff said?

Actually, I do let people know my interest either to annoy the sheeple types or to gain enthusiasts. When sales types get on my nerves I tell them I am going shooting on the weekend and their SF reflexes kick in. :D

A couple of black sales managers (one male, one female) nearly wet their pants when I offered to show them the Bladk Man With A Gun website, though.

I keep a low profile around custmers as there is one who told my manager that they never wanted me back on site and I think that was because I'd mentioned I was going to the International Revover Championships. :banghead:

In the department that I work in, more than a few of us are quite open. It's not unusual to see Ruger and Sig shirts. I can usually be seen wearing TFL and TFL Alumni shirts (pre-THR days), AR15.com polo shirts, and some AR15.com shirts that were bought as a fundraiser for a member that was recently diagnosed with MDS.

At certain times of the day, I'm delivering reports to various parts of the hospital, or making 'house calls' to users that are having computer issues. No one has said 'boo' to me about my choice of apparel. I guess I'm not trying hard enough.

I'm completely open...

But my "job" is Marine option midshipman. I live in a barracks full of Army and Marine contract cadets at The Citadel (my company has like an 80% commissioning rate-compared to 35% for the SC Corps of Cadets).

I'm on our tactical shooting team, and we have a longstanding guerilla airsoft game goin on that boils down to "whenever we get bored in barracks, kick in a door and start an airsoft firefight".

Seeing as we've been locked down for hurricane ernesto for the past day, its been a pretty active game lately... As a matter of fact my airsoft pistol is sittin right next to the keyboard in condition zero right now (loaded, cocked, one up the spout and safety off...:D )

I read gun books and magazines at work. I discuss guns all the time with people while at work. I have shot with dozens of people from work. People I work with compete in a lot of the same matches I do, mainly the machine gun matches. I surf gun related internet at work. I have bought guns at work (just off the property). I have done certain aspects of reloading at work (sizing cases, trimming cases etc: nothing involving powder or primers). Out of the 700-800 people I work with, pretty much all of them know I am into guns and whenever someone has a gun question they usually call me. I have built an AK kit with guys from work: I was the last guy to find out about it and actually met a couple people I didn't even know in the process. Two chicks from work were involved in the build party.

But, I work as a firefighter in a free state. We don't have many milk-toast liberals on this job.

I forgot to mention - the random image screensaver on my work computer - only two types of images... Ones I've shot or Oleg's posters. :D

I've got nothing to hide. I'm not ashamed of my passion nor do I feel the need to keep quiet about it. Fortunatly, I work with many people who enjoy shooting as well.

I am lucky to work for a very open minded, gun owner friendly company. The owners of the company regularly discuss firearms with me. One of our engineers and I discuss C&R firearms daily and I sometimes bring guns into my office to show people. Today one of the owner’s sons asked me if I wanted to see his new Remington 750, 308 cal rifle. I said yes and he pulled it out from under his desk. He then asked me if he could borrow my laser bore sight. I went home at lunch and gave it to him after lunch, and after work he gave it back to me. Like I said I am lucky to work in such an environment.:) This is not a small company either. We are a top company in our field and ship our equipment to over 70 countries.

Very open about it.

IMHO I think it humanizes the Second Amendment and Guns in general. And I work with union bleeding heart liberal nurses in a blue state!! I already got one nurse who is a happy new NRA member and has her 'permit to purchase' for buying her first pistol which we will do next month.

Considering that I routinely get 1-2000 rounds of ammo delivered to the office, I "guess" I'm pretty much out of the closet:D Of course there are four others who also carry at the office and we routinely go shooting together, so it's not really a big deal.

I'm pretty open about it at work. There are alot of others in the office that shoot to. I'm currently in the process of organizing an office shooting trip. Looks like we might even be getting some deals on ammo through a co-worker's husband who owns a local sporting goods/hunting/archery store. :)

While I don't exactly advertise that I own guns, it's no secret either. My neighbour also works here, and one of the defunct vehicles on his property is developing a bit of a collection of spent brass in the bed. I've also been shooting with another co-worker, and I know of several other pro gun people. Once in a while, when we're particularly bored, we just might get one of the anti gun folks stirred up into a tizzy.

I'm not a CCW permit holder yet, but this is on the list now that I have finally purchased a pistol.
