Would you guys be up for another shoot at some point? I think we were all pretty pissed at Los Altos R&G last time, so I don't know whether we'd want to do some other range, or BLM land, or what. What do you think?

We could do BLM land, but we'd need to scout out a place.

If we want to try a range again, Chabot treated us fairly well as a group the few times we've met there. Hell, we hardly got a warning after hip firing the M1919.

Personally my range of choice right now is the 200yrd at Metcalf Field Sports Park, but its is sporatcially busy or empty and makes handguns/shotguns out of the question for the most part.

200yd at Metcalf is nice. I was just there 3 weeks ago doing a 3-Gun match. The weekends are booked for SCVRC or Zouaves though. Might wanna talk to Jerry Marcal if you guys are interested in hosting a shindig there.

Depends when in the winter.

I'm in AZ now, but will return around Christmastime. Between Christmas and New Years works best for me, FWIW.

Wow! There's actually people in the Bay Area that have guns! Is there any type of club for handguns in this area? I would love to go out to a range with some people that know more about guns than I do (that isn't saying much).

There's probably more shooters in the Bay Area than there are in many states.

It's just that the antis are so noisy, it's hard to hear us over the din.

I know of Jackson Arms, an indoor pistol range in South San Francisco. They just moved to a new facilty which is supposed to be good, but I've not been there since they moved. Their range time fees are a bit pricey, the range is a bit loud (I'm not too keen on indoor ones), but they're there.

See Places to Shoot in the Bay Area for more information about Bay Area ranges.

Chabot has an excellent "Intermediate Pistol" class for only $50 coming up on September 23rd. I strongly recommend it. New and experienced shooters are welcome, though it helps if you know the basics (which end not to point at things you're not willing to shoot, how to operate the safety, trigger, how to reload magazines, etc.). Definitely worthwhile. I learned a bunch there.

Jackson Arms

is one of the finest places in the universe!
the people there know everything, are friendly
and helpfull.
I was a good customer in the early 2000s late 90's.
One of the employee's gave me a pistol!
great folks!

If we decide to go the BLM route, I suggest Google Earth as a helpful tool for finding areas, depending on how high the resolution is in particular spots.

I go to school in Napa so i would be up for a shooting day if it wasnt too far of a drive.

If we go to Chabot it's fairly Central Bay Area, just South of Alameda/Oakland. Otherwise it depends where we find BLM land or we go to one of the ranges in the South Bay.

Great reason to visit friends & family in the Bay area. I'd make a trip back to go shooting w/ you guys...

No one contacted the the Stevo? SWEN, WOMAT, no cookies for you. I am looking into the BLM thing. It would be sketchy. Feds are weird about large groups of armed men and women in their backyards. But I am still looking into it.

I have never been to Chabot, And SWEN is a honcho at sunnyval. we have much fun up there and the people are very nice. I took a THR member to work with me on thurs. he took a bite from a hard rott. he can tell youa bout it if he wants to. I was thinking about bringing a couple of dogs and suits to the THR shoot. And let the brave or curius take some bites. It was not Pipsquek he declined the dog mauling. Anyway, It would be great to see my THR buds again.

Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club, http://www.scvrc.com

We do a variety of events, rifles and handguns. You might want to check out our Saturday Night Action Pistol event, held at 10th St. Range just south of downtown San Jose. Good way to learn how to handle your pistol, draw from the holster, and shoot in a way that would normally get you kicked out of "normal" ranges. Rapid fire, double taps, shooting on the move, etc.

We do High Power and 3-Gun at Metcalf too. Some pics from last month:

SgtStevo: I sent you a message via the THR psychic friends network, maybe your "inbox" was full? :)

Sunnyvale is a nice place to shoot but maybe not the best for "gatherings" because:

a) no tin can range
b) no rapid fire
c) not setup as well for socialization (separate bays, etc)
d) see 'a' above

I'm comparing it to Los Altos, of course, which allows rapid fire on the tin can range with 22s and is really 'trick' with regard to the social side.

You guys say when and where, I have some SERIOUSLY unused guns and rifles I need to either shoot... or sell. Including my 50 (never selling) which I've never shot ONCE, my Mini-14 which I've fired once... etc. Standing by for marching orders.

Ever see Laguna Seca?

Nice clean range
Friendly range folk
Local food on the Bay
300 yard plates.

Six steel plate and flip or spin steel pistole bays.

Much nice than Metcalf.

Free ocean breeze

Actually stay away :neener: Who needs a crowd:scrutiny:

Cheers
MJ

The san jose club sounds like we would fit in. And I have never heard of it before. So it is probly NOT over run by knuckleheads.

SWEN The line is down my friend. I figure you would tell me when you see me. Dibs on your SKS if it is for sale. I love those things. Contact me, I have a great story for ya. when you get a minute.

I say everybody votes on the thread as to where we should meet. The highest amount of one range wins. we are the Highroad after all.

I have only been to Reeds in Santa Clara and Jackson Arms in South City. To me they seemed pretty much the same. Then again I am a newbie. I would love to go to an outdoor range. I am in San Jose so my vote is for anything in Santa Clara County.

There is a little teeny private range in Scott's Valley where I practice pistol and shotgun/pistol transitions. Under the redwoods behind Borlund-go figure!
The Swiss Rifle Club can be booked for a group and it has 700 yard range (.50s now banned! ) and a short side that can be set up for pistol. Nice private facilities but it is 10 miles east of Gonzales Ca. so it is 100 miles south of SJ. Forget Laguna Seca, on on the LEO side can you shoot from hip. No rapid fire and the attitude is quite stifilling! My experience on BLM with rapid highpower rifle fire has NOT been positive!
Metcalf looks cool, I have never been there, but sure would love to Groucho Marx around with my carbine and pistol with a trainer behind me like in the great pictures!:)
