Tell me about LMT

I built a M4 with a LMT upper a while back. Didn't have anything to complain about. They come with the proper M4 front sight, extended feed ramps and T-numbered rail. They are also light profile under the handguards. They are also 1/7 twist so they can stabilize the heavier bullets. But they are pricey.

You'll probably get more of a response over on AR15.com, especially in the "Uppers, lowers, barrels, and more" subforum. There is a thread stickied for the LMT MRP series. Everyone gives it the best of marks. LMT makes nice stuff. I am very happy with mine.

I bought one of their 14.5" uppers from BCM. I bought it because of the fact that they are mil-spec (4150 barrel steel, 1:7 twist, M4 ramps, chrome lining).
The upper came with a loose barrel. Also it wouldn't function with steel cased ammo. Yeah I know it wasn't made for steel cased ammo but the Bushy that it replaced worked fine with commie ammo (10000 rounds before the first malfunction occured).
The guy that tightened my barrel wondered if LMT didn't have different standards of quality control for military vs civilian orders.
It works fine now as long as you use brass cased ammo.

Your best bet if you are not going to get the MRP platform is just honestly to get the enhanced bolt AND carrier. The standard LMT upper is nothing special and just has the LMT rollmarks. The standard barrels are the same, nothing special. If you are going to do a build or get an actual high end upper from a company I would go with a Noveske or have MSTN.biz build you an upper. LMT itself is nothing special (except for the enhanced bolt / carrier) unless you are going with the MRP upper.

Personally I think your best bet is to buy the parts you want and build it yourself. LMT bolt, Noveske Polygonal chrome lined BBL, larue handguards for example. Whatever stripped upper you actually go with is almost immaterial and dosen't matter.

If you want mil-spec, LMT is the best there is.

I have an enhanced bolt on one carbine right now, and while the finish is very nice, I don't know that it is worth the money over a normal bolt. Also, be aware that the enhanced bolt and carrier is intended *only* for use in 14.5-16" rifles.

I'm planning a couple more rifles now, and will probably just go with the normal M16 carrier and bolt.

Yes and no. The MRP is kinda cool but is nothing special besides being one kick ass billet that is machined, The BBL change out AND caliber conversion is cool but accuracy is nothing better than anything else high end on the market.

The bolt and carrier offer a substantially more reliable platform. The cuts in the bolt head decrease the tendancy for the lugs to shear over extended use. Also the bolt head is chromed and fully supports the shell casing along with having dual extractor springs. The carrier is also refined with sandcuts, extra gas ports and has been made heavier to extend dwell time to bleed off excess gasses to help make the rifle more reliable over the long haul.

My advice after owning several MRP uppers is if you like the BBL change out get the MRP. If you want the "best" which is still highly subjective I would get the Noveske and or build up a Noveske style upper yourself with an LMT bolt / carrier. (You could also go Les Baer bolt / carrier as well....super high end too)

With the Noveske you get (or can get) Polygonal chrome lined with 17-4 hardened steel, about 40ish % harder than normal steel that makes barrels on the market now. Also the Krink break Noveske has is super kick ass and is great for tricking the bbl into thinking it's longer, hence great for reliability and shorter barrels.
