Mixed Tannerite Shelf Life?

Dump it out now!:banghead: It can't be stored or transported mixed. It's against federal law. As a binary explosive it can be stored and transported seperate, but must be used at the time it's mixed. Shovel and shut up and go buy yourself a case. It's not worth time in the federal pen!

I have a concern that the stuff is shock sensitive, and could be set off by accidental means.

SSHHHHhhh....we won't tell. The stuff won't go bad being mixed and it is only a 'legal technicality' that makes it 'untransportable' in a mixed state.

Just tell everyone here that you disposed of it without TRANSPORTING it on the Public Highways and be careful of the blast fragments. They CAN come back at you FAST!

Edit: Tannerite can NOT be set off accidentally. Burning, hitting, crushing...only a double supersonic bullet will do the deed.

I'm sure he meant well, being generous enough to give you two bottles of tannerite, but your co-worker shouldn't be giving it to you pre-mixed.

It's very easy to mix and only takes about 30 seconds so there is no reason to pre-mix the stuff. As far as disposal, I would contact the manufacturer to ask what the best method is.

You have to hit it with a centerfire rifle round for it to go off. It is reletivly stable stuff.

I'd suggest against dumping it if you haven't already. Tannerite contains perchlorate which is a toxin if it gets into groundwater, and could get you fined depending on local laws.

I agree, perchlorates are toxic, but I thought that Tannerite contained ammonium nitrate and other chemicals to make it more sensitive?
