i have heard a story that 2 guys tried to mug jack dempsey in a cab when he was seventy five. i can visualize him making these guys faces focus mitts.

THWACK! The first mistake came when one of the teenagers grabbed him around the throat and said in German: "Give my your money, grandad, if you don't want to get hurt."

"Bad move," said Douglas. "The only part he got right was grandad. If you're gonna grab someone from behind take their arms and pin them to their waist.

"This joker, I was able to grab his elbow, crouch down and throw him over my shoulder. He landed on his back on a fence and squealed like a stuck pig."

CRASH! As one went down another moved in and Douglas thought he saw him reaching for a knife. The Birmingham-born divorcee, who has a daughter and three grandchildren, said: "I had the measure of him but I slipped on some wet leaves as he came for me and bashed my face badly on the concrete.

"I saw his boot coming towards my face and I thought: 'No you don't, sunshine.' I grabbed his leg and twisted it until he too was screaming out in agony.

"Then I got to my feet and kicked him in the chest."

With two down the two remaining would-be muggers had enough. One peeled his groaning pal from the fence, the other picked up his crippled accomplice from the pavement.

Words cannot express just how funny this is.

When I was a LEO here, a "transient" individual grabbed an elderly visiting professor of engineering from the Republic of China who was at Purdue as part of some sort of exchange program. The professor all five foot nothing of him, who was out with his wife on an after dinner walk, apparently did nothing until the robber turned towards his wife.

The police found the robber on the ground with the professor's foot on this neck while his arm was being twisted like a towel. The professor was not only an instructor of engineering but also of White Crane kung fu.:uhoh: :D

Finally, cosmic justice. I love happy endings.:D

As I recall, Applegate was walking with a cane when two muggers pulled a knife and demanded money. Needless to say, they left a few seconds later.....limping. Heck, a stick is legal to carry everywhere.

I love these stories where senior citizens teach lessons in mannerism to their younger counterparts.

good story if poor writing...was kinda like a poorly written cartoon....however them most important thing from the story that affects us all...he spoke of there being "a lot of break-ins on my street" that is the cost of the antigun laws great brittan faces...if you know the person does not have a gun in thier house why not break in steal the silver and take advantage of the lady of the house while her husband is at work....after all its not like she has a gun to defend herself.
btw i also have heard the story from my father that dempsy punched out two muggers in the backseat of a cab in NYC

Germany -- Described in the Library of Congress report as "among the most stringent in Europe," Germany`s laws are almost as restrictive as those which HCI wants imposed in the U.S. Licenses are required to buy or own a firearm, and to get a license a German must prove his or her "need" and pass a government test. Different licenses are required for hunters, recreational shooters, and collectors. As is the case in Washington, D.C., it is illegal to have a gun ready for defensive use in your own home. Before being allowed to have a firearm for protection, a German must again prove "need." Yet the annual number of firearm-related murders in Germany rose 76% between 1992-1995. (Library of Congress, p. 69.) It should be noted, HCI goes further than the Germans, believing "there is no constitutional right to self-defense" (HCI Chair Sarah Brady, quoted in Tom Jackson, "Keeping the Battle Alive," Tampa Tribune, 10/21/93) and "the only reason for guns in civilian hands is sporting purposes" (HCI`s Center to Prevent Handgun Violence Director, Dennis Henigan, quoted in USA Today, 11/20/91).

Stuff like this just warms your heart. I love it!
Don't mess with that generation, they've EARNED what they have through blood, sweat and tears and they ain't going to give it up to you.
