I am looking at purchasing a Gerber Covert Folder and wanted to know if any of you guys out there have an opinion about this knife as far as blade material and value price-wise.

I'm sentimental about the Covert so I may not be unbiased.

It's a perfectly good inexpensive defensive knife.

I plan on buying one soon, the larger version does not have a pocket clip does it?

I have the mini covert as well and carry it in my pocket everywhere I go. It's an inexpensive knife that holds up very well to a good beating. The edge retention isn't the greatest but if you don't mind sharpening, which I don't, then it's a wonderful knife.

I suggest getting your hands on one...you won't regret it.

I carry the mini-covert A.F. Gerber in my EDC rotation, as 1 of 3 main ones. I haven't put it to any serious use yet, though, so can't comment on it's quality. I like it's size and weight, and how easily it opens, though. This is one with the single edge; not a 2-edge blade.

I too carried the mini-covert and I really like it. It has been usurped as my carry knife by a Fox Predator II (that I really like, BTW), but it still makes it into my pocket when I need something a little smaller. I bought mine at Walmart when they were closing them out, and I wish I would have bought two. IMO, this design lends itself pretty well to a folder.
