I hate threads like this

...because it makes me realise that I already have a pretty good pick for each category (870 excepted)...and sometimes a back-up.

--Should I sell some off?
--How can I justify buying more when I seldom use some of the ones I already own???

Its called a hobby its what you waste your money on :neener: And i am more then happy to do it:D

To stereotype woman buy lots of shoes at least one pair per day, men buy 5 sets of tools and when they miss place them they have to buy more instead of looking for the old ones.

LONG GUNS
Marlin 1895GS 45/70 - If I could only have one centerfire it would be a big-bore lever action.
Ruger 10/22 - I wish I had never sold mine.
Marine Magnum - I love mine.

HAND GUNS
S&W 340PD - Ultralight and a "blast" to shoot.
Ed Brown Kobra Carry - The best pistol I have ever owned.
Ruger Mark Something - Great little pistols

Easy

Enfield Action .338/06
Bolt action rifle capable of any large game hunting.

Marlin Papoose .22LR
Take down rimfire that is ugly as all hell, but quite accurate and handy.

Remington 870
All purpose 12 guage

Colt 1911
All around defensive handgun.

Ruger Bisley .45 Colt
Perfect handgun for hunting or roaming the great outdoors.

Ruger MkII auto .22 LR
Handy, accurate and reliable.

I'll have to pick from my collection.

Long guns:

Rimfire: My old Stevens 86c bolt action 4x Scope.
Centerfire: My Varmint AR15 .223. Can go fairly long, or short range with it. Do I get to keep the shorty upper I usually have with it in its case? :)
Shotgun: My 870 Express magnum

Handguns:

Don't own any, and the only thing I would want is a .357 revolver. Any decent brand will do.

Gad, I'm lucky enough to have a huge collection but here goes.
Long Gun, My Tactical Savage in .308. great for game if needed.
Rimfire, Ruger 10/22
Shotgun, Rem 870 with 2 barrels.
,SAA 45 Colt, I can make usable black powder if I have to.
Semi-auto, Sig 229 in 357 Sig.
22. Ruger SAA

Long Guns:

Bolt Action, and I think I would probably take my 03-A3.
Rimfire? Ruger 10/22, hands down. Stock, I would want the rifle version as opposed to the carbine. Custom, well, I am building one now, so that one!
Shotgun? Not even a debateable question for me: Remington 870 in 12 gauge.

Hand Guns:

Revo: A stainless GP100 wth a 4 inch barrel in .357 Mag.
Auto: My P90 has been uber reliable, but I really like my new Taurus PT-1911... Still, I probably have to go with the P90 because it has years of reliable service underneath it.
Rimfire: Again, not even a question. A stainless Ruger MkII, 6 inch bull barrel.

To defend my 03-A3 decision, it boils down to this: I have it in my arsenal already (which is true of everything but the GP100), The cartridge is super easy to find, and in stock military condition it is perfectly suitable for hunting or for defense. It is NOT my current hunting rifle, and it it is NOT my favorite mil-surp to shoot (although it is darn close). A Ruger MkII in 7mmRemMag and a K31 fill those other roles currently. It is just that if I had to choose, that one would make the most all-around sense to me out of all my centerfire rifles....

Okay here goes

1) Remington 700 (.30-06): I just have a thing for Remington bolts, I could have chosen an M1 or M1A or other, but the ability to scope it, it's accuracy, ruggedness, lightness and reliability I think are the most attractive attributes of this choice.
2) Marlin 60: I own this one and a 10/22 and find this one fits me better and is more naturally pointable to me, it just feels better. Although I feel that jams are more easily cleared with the 10/22, it comes down to keeping it clean and the type of ammo used.
3) Remington 870 (12-gauge): I'm not sure which I have owned longer between this and my Marlin 60, but this weapon has just always been there and can be used for just about anything in N.A., from Dove to Griz. It is simple, reliable and rugged, it has been the only shotgun I've ever owned and feel no reason to change to anything else, it just works for me.
4) S&W Model 10: Having never owned a 10, I just think this is the epitome and apex of revolver design. It is not a .357 even though this is a great round I feel that it just doesn't have the overall useability as the .38spl. I have owned .357's before and they are brutally loud, I don't mind the recoil from a substantially sized gun aka GP100, but for overall usefulness, I feel that the .38spl is just easier to use and effective enough for it's intended purpose, especially with today's choices in ammunition.
5) Glock 21: I am ashamed to say that I have bought and sold this make/model pistol more than any other. I find a stupid reason to move on to something else and regret my decision, realizing the error of my ways, trade for it back again, this time (3rd time) is the last. Although I have owned other pistols and Glocks in other calibers, I just feel that this particular pistol is the most intimidating and awesome of what Glock has to offer. 13 rounds of .45acp is an incredible amount of power. Not to say that isn't true with my G23, if it ever comes down to the nitty gritty, I want the biggest bullets going downrange with better accuracy. As for choosing Glock for this category, the Glocks are what I like, they work for me.
6) Ruger Single-Six: There are alot of choices for this category and some may be better, but I recently bought this one, the 50th Anniversary version with 4 5/8" barrel and fixed sights. It's not a tack driver, but it will work for my uses. There is just something about a single action revolver that I can't put a finger on, but there is definitely an allure, and this little revolver fits that bill.

I didn't read the entire thread.
I just couldn't. Not enough time to see what everyone else is doing.
(I've been through a spate of these lately with different numbers of guns.)

(m14nut, your responsibility now is to collect statistics
into a set of bar graphs so that participants can see in an instant
what the most popular guns in each category are.)

Still, OK, I'll play for at least 5/6.
_______

Centerfire rifle: Marlin 336 .30-30 (coming soon)

Rimfire rifle: CZ 452 Style [Will get cut and crown to 18"]

Shotgun: 870P

Revolver: SW 642

Pistol: Kahr K9 9mm (in holster on right side now)

Rimfire pistol: NYD (not yet determined)

Well, I'm gonna go with stuff I own, so:

Centerfire Rifle: Marlin 1894S .44mag.
Rimfire Rifle: Ruger 10/22 DSP
Shotgun: Remington 870 w/ mag ext. and the 3 barrels.

Centerfire Wheelgun: S&W 629 Classic DX (paired w/ my Marlin as I handload .44mag.)
Centerfire Autoloader: Springfield GI 1911A1
Rimfire Handgun: Ruger MK6

I figure if we've been forced to make this choice, we'll also be in the process of fighting whomsoever is attempting to oppress us into having to choose and limiting quantity. With powder, bulk lead, and primers laid in, my .44mag long and short arms should take care of any realistic ranges and applications I may encounter, including staying fed, meaning hunting. Same for the 870 with one of each of the 3 barrel types for every kinda party, including repelling boarders. That 3-gun combo has overlapping uses.

The 1911 just for a second fighting handgun, I guess, since a bottomfeeder had to be chosen. It would expand potential to have access to useable ammo in case .44mag availability is compromised, however.

The rimfires for hunting, practice, backup. Just icing on the cake, I imagine.

I thank the lord that here in the States, in the event that this type of thing would be attempted someday, whatever naive entity that would attempt such a thing would soon figure out the futility and disastrous outcome and allow things to return to their natural order, something of which the Founding Fathers had an uncanny understanding. (off soapbox)

Interesting thread, BTW

I'll take YOUR guns.

NMS, I think that discussion belongs over in the thread entitled "Your chosen MinuteMan rifle". ;)

Speaking only for myself, (everybody has different goals and that's fine), I'm a pretty nomadic type, and try to keep my load light and efficient with "jack of all trades, master of none" guns. About six guns total is all I'm interested in. From there, I'm more interested in becoming as proficient with those as possible rather than collect more guns.

(I'm still pondering whether I really need/want a rimfire pistol. I'd be more likely to own two centerfire rifles if I had the choice: one .30-30 lever, one .308 or 7mm08 bolt. But that's fodder for another thread. I'll not clutter this one with questions about rimfire pistols.)

OK, I'm less grumpy today, so I'll try to get back through and read this thread in its entirity in a day or two. What better way to spend Thanksgiving? :D

Galil in .308--rapid fire precision, compact with folded stock, etreme reliability, 12 or 25 round mags.

Suppressed Ruger 10/22-- it is the most versatile .22 rifle ever made, period. Quiet it down and feed it from Steel Lips magasines.

Benelli Super Black Eagle--with vent rib and rifle sight barrels, can hunt anything and do it well. Magazine extension a must.

Colt Anaconda .45 Colt-- super strong, great trigger, powrful enough for anything you need a handgun for.

Glock 29-- 10mm power in a readily concealable package. 15 round mags for back up.

Walther P22 with threaded barrel-- uses same suppressor as the 10/22, very small and light for carry, fun to shoot, 13 round mags available.

Center fire rifle...M1A...easiest decision
rim fire rifle...Ruger 10/22 suppressed
Shot gun...870 12 gauge

Centerfire auto pistol...SA-XD Tactical in .45
Centerfire revolver Ruger GP101 in .357
rimfire pistol...Ruger MK II with 4" bull barrel
