SIG CPO

Generally excellent quality very highly regarded guns. A great value. I recently bought a CPO P228 and am very happy with it. Here's a pic:

+1 on the CPOs

I've purchased both CPO and new and have been very happy with the CPOs. At worse you'll find more 'Sig smileys' on the barrel. At best you'll get a near new gun for a much less than the new price.

I also have one of the CPO 228s. It has an extractor problem and will go back to Sig as soon as I can get through to their customer service. Other than the extractor problem, it's a very nice pistol.

I think the correct word you are asking about is "refurbished".

This is a common practice whereby a company will take returned items (for guns, this is usually some sort of police department trade-in) and rework them to the point where they meet original build specifications. This means replacing worn parts where necessary as well as refinishing the firearm.

US Laws do not allow these items to be called New, so the term "refurbished" or "refurb" for short is given to these items.

I have no problems with using refurbished firearms. This has been common with Glock, H&K and other firearms companies.

My 226 was from early on in the "certified" program. It was higher-priced than they are now and it's condition not as nice as those in the program today. But, it's been a great gun with the best DA and SA triggers I've felt in a Sig and has never hiccupped once. Eats anything and shoots straight.
