looks like you had a great afternoons sport. why are you guys wearing orange hats and why have your dogs got orange collars on?

Halfacop - let me get this one...
UK Roe Hunter - most state game departments in the US require anyone pursing small game - upland game - birds - to wear at least safety orange hats and often safety orange vests. Additional thought - because a lot of the bird cover in many areas is shoulder height or more - adds greatly to safety.

I was just going to reply, "to keep from getting Cheneyed by your friends." 
No such law here in Texas, but it's just good common sense when you're hunting flushing birds. We are only required to wear orange on public hunting areas.

Yup - great afternoon.
I like an orange collar on my dog due to the fact that he blends in with the local forage in the fall and we can pick up the collar very quickly in the thick stuff when trying to locate him.
Plus I figure if I have to abide by Govt. regulations....then he should too!
