I've decided I'm moving to Oregon. I'm asking nicely, please don't post California hate like in my other thread! This thread is about Portland, Oregon locals' experience with suppressors (Multnomah and Clackmas counties).

If you Oregonians would be so kind:

-Who did you get to sign your Form 4s? Any undue scrutiny or hesitation?
-Which local dealer did you use? Opinion of them?
-How long did it take to get your form back from the BATFE?
-I'm going to get an apartment or rent a room for between 2 and 4 months and wait to find a house; can I get my paperwork started as soon as I set down my luggage, or do I need to wait for a permanent residence? Do I need proof of residency for a certain period of time?

Am I worrying about too much? :uhoh: I'm not ashamed to say I need someone to walk me through this. :D

Traditionally Multnomah County has been the most difficult to deal with on Concealed Pistol Licenses and NFA weapons, I’ve heard that has eased up a little but would advise you to keep it in mind. Clackamas is much more “liberal”, if you’ll pardon the expression, and covers a much wider area to choose from for housing.

I don’t have a suppressor but they can be had from a number of sources and are even sold over the counter at the big gun show in Portland, paper work required of course. Clackamas also has an exceptional private gun club, a state of the art clean range (indoor and expensive), and the only gun shop worth discussing in the metro area. Did I mention Douglas Ridge Gun Club yet? I’m not a member but you’ll want to look into it.

My offer stands, the grand tour on arrival. I hope your not coming this week; we’re expecting the latest arctic freeze. Snow to the valley floor, a city paralyzed by the weather, and panic in the streets. I love the winters here, a laugh a minute.

Oh, by the way; you’re worrying about too much. :)

I know a lawyer who is also a Class III manufacturer. He knows his gun laws. If you PM me I can send you his contact info.

So Multnomah is harder, but Clackmas is more liberal? What's that mean with regard to CCW and NFA?

Washington county is next door to Multnomah and Clackmas to the West. I know a Class III fellow I can put you in contact with if the lawyer contact does not pan out. Try him first, someone keen on gun laws should make this process much smoother.

Liberal in that context means Clackamas county is "easier" to attain the license you are seeking compared to Multnomah county.

CCW is shall issue in Washington county if that helps any. Can't speak for neighbor counties, don't know anyone with one there besides contacts here on THR.

I forgot about this thread!

This was the question I was actually trying to get answered; If I get an apartment temporarily, can I start my paperwork then or do I have to wait until I'm moved into a permanent residence? I'm moving into an apartment for ~3 months, then finding a house. I want to mail my form 4 as soon as possible.

Edit: In California, you have to have proof of residency (for 3 months I think) to purchase firearms. Does the same thing apply to Title 2 weapons?
