What does the NRA have to do with this? It's purely up the NRA's discretion what they fight for. I figure the NRA pretty much thinks California is already lost.

Sure, then they go after semi-auto pistols, then revolvers, then, well all of them.

just an observation

But doesn't it seem like the excuse for these laws by the California law makers, all liberals is to stem the tide of drugs and drug money inot the US by being able to ban the weapons of choice by drug runners and drug lords? If so why won;t they do anything to those who use the drugs, but give them a place to re-hab, and eat free ham samiches and then go back out and become drug abusers again and repeat the vicious cycle again and again?

Why then don;t they start giving stiff convictions to drug users to make them think the cost is too high to commit the supposedly "victemless crime" they are committing. I feel that if you chose to buy illegal drugs, you are kowingly committing accessory to murder by knwoing what the drug kingpins, and on down the line to the sellers in the stereet have to do to be able to supply you with your ill begotten booty! You all here know that every druggie in the world knows what those who sell them the drugs are capable of and therefore accesories to the crimes committed byt the sellers of said drugs.

At what point do you folks realize that what's happening in California, will eventually happen in America...

We're strictly the test bed folks... and it's going to happen! In the end, the shooting community will be lucky to have double barreled shotguns like the Brit's and not much else...

Just consider one thing, how many politicians are supporting the 2nd these days? Not a real popular subject... and they don't care bcause they know the shooting community is shrinking and that America has been conditioned for the past 20-20 years that guns are bad.

Brits CAN have pump shotguns, if they belong to shooting clubs, but $1400 is a wee bit steep for a stock 870:eek:

But you don't understand, X. It's not their fault they use drugs or commit crimes. They're lashing out at society for its unfair mistreatment. People only commit crime because they're poor and the rich rub their faces in it by driving Lexi and owning mansions. If EVERYONE had modest means, there would be no incentive for crime, and of course, if we get rid of the cause of crime, which is guns.

That's almost word for word what a reporter from the Washington P/r/a/v/d/a/ Post told me a few years ago. The RIGHT WING Washington Post, as we are told.

The same could be said of those who drank alcohol in spite of Prohibition -- that they were responsible for fueling the violence committed by people like Al Capone. Of course, now that alcohol is legal, there are no longer gigantic profits to be made from its sale on the black market. So the violence and corruption associated with alcohol prohibition have become nonexistent. However, some damage was done to our rights because of Prohibition that lasts to this day: namely, the NFA of 1934.

Now we have a slightly different kind of prohibition: drug prohibition. The substances are different, but the problems the laws cause are exactly the same: violence, loss of civil/gun rights, criminals getting rich, children getting stuff pushed on them in order to get them hooked.

It's not the fault of the druggies. Though they are wasting their lives and their health (as are alcoholics), they have every right to do so, since it is their lives and their health to waste. The fault of all the violence, corruption, etc., lies with those who make and enforce anti-drug laws. The only such laws that should be on the books are those that make it illegal to sell to minors.

Until drugs are legalized for adult use, the violence caused by the Drug War will fuel calls for new gun control and give politicians an excuse to enact it, just as the violence caused by alcohol prohibition led to the 1934 NFA.

No it isn't. Many states have more strict RKBA or self-defense provisions in their Constitutions, which makes it very difficult for unreasonable bans such as those found in CA and NY to be enacted.

That being said, the CA gun laws are despicable.

And if the federal government tries to ban centerfire weapons, well, prepare for some serious civil unrest, along with some nasty court battles (and possibly other types as well, if the court battles are lost). I don't think that's a likely scenario.

It would not matter if you legalized drugs or were some how able to stop all drug trafficing the scum bags out there would still be out there - that is why we need to be armed. The only thing which would change would be the crimes they commit and most of them would probably turn into politicans and public servants who would still be looking for easy prey to fund their lazy, selfserving lifestyle.

Just buy as many guns as possible. The Klinton administration considered a mass "buy back," and decided the cost was too many billions.

The more "assault," "sniper" and "weapons of mass destruction" rifles are out there, the harder it is to ban them and the harder it is to make a case for it.

"Everyone in the country has one. Therefore, they're dangerous" is a hard argument to push.

Rediculous.

I work on .50 caliber Machine guns and miniguns for a living and come to find out that I can't even legally own a certain semi-automatic rifle out here in Cali. Ick.:cuss:

I have recently (8 months) been stationed out here in so-cal. I always knew that California had some crappy gun laws, but living hundreds of miles away in a more lenient state allowed me to shrug it off. Now that I'm here in the trenches though, it's making me realize how out of control things are here.

Probably and ignorant and basic question, but aside from voting and emailing people, what can I do to defend what little rights we all have left out here?

Yes it is. Notice the Assembly in Maryland has put up an AWB that is basically directly ripped from the CA AWB. Large segments of it are direct copies of the CA AWB.

I've had plenty lawyers and several law professors tell me that quoting CA law as precedent is a fast way to lose a case in the real world.

Politicians are idiots plagiarizing each others' mistakes. Notice that a great many jurisdictions tried to swipe that law. A great many ran into pre-emptions and such.

And you won't see any first world jurisdiction copying PRK's environment or utility laws, not to mention their quaint ideas of budget.

Maryland is not all of America. A few states (MD, IL, NY, NJ) are pretty bad, I agree. And I'm not saying one shouldn't be outraged about it, but it's certainly not going to happen everywhere without a federal ban. In my home state (NM) we are protected via the state constitution. Of course, it is possible that the 1994 AWB might be re-introduced...

Smite: run for public office and introduce a bill to change the law!

As far as that MD proposed law. If, it in fact is diredctly copying CA's text; some of us in CA may be able to show you some big holes in the law.
Not big enough, but there are lots of holes.

Ya... well gee wiz!

if the shooting community doesn't get off it's collective read end, we're lost. Just a matter of time. These posts have changed little in 21 years... and we're loosing... I pray people start to see it. Because while it's nice to sit down in the comfort in your own home and watch TV or a Movie or type online..... it takes serious effort to maintain the 2nd ammendment. Something that few of the shooting community has every managed to figure out! Or bother with. We're out own worst enemy!:banghead:

No body Special:

Did you bother to read Gore's publically posted position statment on the Internet???

The man blantently stated that the American People did NOT have the right to keep and bear arms.

ALL it's going to take is a couple Democratic admins to kill off the 2nd and it will happen because the Repulican party no longer supports the 2nd, the last guy locally that admitted he supported the 2nd got killed in the election... and the NRA is useless... we've been loosing for 21 years now... steadily!

WAKE UP FOLKS!!

Vote.

Write to your legistraitors.

If you vote absentee, send them a PHOTOCOPY of your ballot, then mark the photocopy with your reasons (actually, that's a damned good idea).

Buy lots of guns.

Take a new shooter shooting (especially women and kids).

Promote diversity--pink, blue and yellow are perfect colors for ARs and FALs.

Be polite, erudite and open about owning guns.

Well, he's right. :what: Legally speaking, anyway, as far as the courts are concerned.

Look at some of my posts (and Bartholomew Roberts') in the thread discussing the Wayne Fincher case in this forum. I'm going to try and compile a summary over the weekend.

What gets me is the number of gunnies who actively fight any attempt to get a 2A hearing in front of SCOTUS.

"They might rule against us!!!!! And the current administration/congress/governor/local mayor isn't too bad!!!"

Administrations change. And if they rule against us, we'd be exactly where we are now. If they rule for us, all that crap disappears in civil rights cases the next day. And, with it enumerated, the ACLU would be in the position of having to defend the right along with the others.

Looking back at all the cases I've seen, there are VERY FEW where SCOTUS did not offer a valid, supportable Constititutional ruling (The eminent domain case is an example of a bad ruling). That whole "appointed for life" thing usually puts them above party politics...which was the intent.

You people simply don't realize you've already lost... it's simply a matter of time before most firearms are illegal. Why? Because no one can be bothered to get off their dead read ends and actually do something? On top that, no one has had an original idea of how to deal with the battles that exist in 30 years.. The NRA is ****ing useless...

And, what's the biggest thing a shooter will do? Log on, post a reactionary statement, and go back to watching TV a movie or perhaps even cleaning or working on a firearm. Will many of them do much to save their weapons? Nope.. This has NOT changed in 30 years. And worst of all, non of you realizes that America is being conditioned and part of that conditioning is the disturning reality that "guns are bad"... especially in the population centers of this country (Ca. NY, etc).

We've lost.. it's simply a matter of time. Glad I won't be around when it comes. The shooting community almost as a whole is worthless when it comes to what the battles actually are and what to do about it. I've only seen one original idea in 20 years now..
