I guess this falls under "Rifles": Where can a civilian buy a howitzer?

I'm not looking to buy one (living in an apartment, where would I put it? The parking garage? I don't think my Accord could tow it, either), but I'm wondering if there exist any regular dealers of this sort of thing that sell to civilians. Yes, I know there is a (edit: tax stamp) required because it's a DD. Something like an M102 105mm or equivalent.

Names / addresses / price lists, that kind of thing.

Secondly, how does one approach a dealer? Call them up and say "Hi! I'd like to buy a howitzer"? Or do you have to know someone? Do you have to be "known" in the DD/NFA world before anyone will talk to you?

$25,000 to $30,000 will get you either of the two artillery pieces I've seen for sale most recently. They aren't howitzers, though, they're more direct-fire type pieces. If you have that kind of money, the only other thing you need is patience. There is no "permit," just a waiting process for the tax stamp. You can just walk up to a dealer and say "I'd like to buy a howitzer," but there are a lot of tire kickers in the NFA world. Dealers will probably give you the benefit of the doubt, but they will want to see money at some point.

Omega weapons systems, Tucson AZ. he doesn't have any in stock but most likally can point ya at one 520-889-8895

And it'll require more than a DD stamp, lots of demilled one available and Don, at Omega can even set ya up with the cannons off a MIG if ya need a few :D

Even moving the ones used for movie production which are not capable of fireing live ammo involves paperwork ya don't even wanna get started on..

As far as the black powder cannon.... yea but limited number of shots as ya can only legally posses up to 50 lbs of powder without getting a license :D

I read an artical in, of all places, GQ

About this. It was probably 3 or 4 years ago, but the article was bout this guy that imports military vehicals for civilan use. He can get you tanks attack choppers, subs, a MIG jet... But he also got artiliary pieces and such. I know that this isn't much help, but I thought that I would share.

There are some great writeups online by DD folks, including a little old lady who fixes up recoilless rifles as a hobby.

If you don't already have the background for it, why not start easy and get a black-powder mortar? The small ones aren't much bigger than a toaster, and can launch a golf-ball about 400yds or so.

from bronzecannon.com , $375 delivered.

(EDIT: for $750, folks have the larger bore, and claim a half-mile range for a aluminum can filled with cement)

Maybe get one of those and play with it for a while, then decide if you want to go up from there.

Jumping right up to a $20,000 M102 105mm howitzer might be a little hasty, like getting a Viper as your first vehicle.

Speaking of bp mortars, does anyone have a link to the feral cat hunting story?

At the last "Big Sandy" machine gun shoot there was a couple of towed field peices for sale. I think the price tag on the 37mm was $21,000. There was also a 57mm, and a 90mm at the shoot.
