Springfield XD45 Reliability?

Thanks, all, for the info.

I figured I could get more reliable info from folks who paid for the gun out of their own pocket rather than gun rag hacks.

I own the service model and have had no problems. It has seen close to 3,000 rounds of Federal 230gr hp , Winchester 230gr hp , WWB 230GR fmj , Fiocchi 230gr fmj , and American Eagle 230gr fmj with not one problem. I have added a TLR-1 because it is my H.P. gun. I have shot it limp wrist on purpose to try for a jam and nothing. Buy one and shoot the hell out of it.

MY XDS

I HAVE 3 XD A 9 - 40 - 45 I AM BY KNOW MEANS A SHARP SHOOTER , BUT
THESE ARE POINT AND SHOOT GUNS AND THAT JUST WHAT THEY DO. I HIT WHAT I AIM FOR AT 25YDS. EVERYTIME.

Friend had one only problem was the grip safety spring broke and the factory would not sell him one and he had to send the whole gun back just for a spring.

Like most XD pistols, it'll run just fine. The single action trigger is a bit sloppy, but may be intended to mimic trigger cocking pistols.

If one takes a training class and operates the pistol under any sort of stress, be aware that a scant depression of the grip safety may cause some problems. Some stoppage clearning techniques are not possible with the XD.

Kilroy,

That's an interesting comment about stoppage drills that won't work. Please explain?

Thanks

My 4" service has been flawless to date. I've put 500 reloads thru it using 200gr and 230gr ball and the accuracy is almost better than my Kimber Pro Carry.

Redhat:

There are some techniques used to clear stuck cases. Assuming that the extractor still has a hold of a case stuck in the chamber, there are specific techniques that are suitable for this situation. Having a grip safety that must be depressed before the slide can move complicates the situation.

While conducting numerous interviews of shooting range based training programs, this came up on several occasions. When I related this to a traveling instructor, he cited several occasions of seeing the same thing.

Now this applies to only the technique in question, under the circumstances already mentioned. Alterntive techniques, that allow for a depressed grip safety, work just fine.

The reason I don't go into further detail is that someone will start playing with the tecniques in question and end up causing the first situation from having scant grip safety compression.

XD45 Compact. 100% reliable with ball and HP ammo. Not sensative to limp wristing at all and runs fine with short 10 round magazines and full size 13 rounders. Basically super reliable to this point.

Kilroy,

Thanks and since I own an XD I'd like to know in detail. PM me if you can

Thanks

Well, I have an XD45 and it is extremely accurate right out of the box. And, when I say extremely, I mean it has been the most accurate pistol that I own or have ever owned.

So, maybe something wrong with the gun itself. Maybe you should have it checked out. Most everyone at the range that has one is very satisfied with how accurate it is.

Only time will tell, we don't really know if the new polymer pistols on the market today even have the frame chemistry as Glocks which have been around since the early 80's. As for reliability I have heard mixed reviews but you get that from any product, currently they seem to be doing very well and and if they continue for twenty or so years they will be recognized up there with Sig, Glock, and HK. The XD will probably hold its own but it will take time to know the answer, Glock was dogged for many years till it revolutionized the handgun market but it took time just like everything else.

BTW I am a Glock fan and I am not a XD hater like I may come off as, but Springfield burnt my butt twice and continues to screw their customers over by not selling parts and selling guns that should not have left the factory because the need feed ramps polished, or extractor tweaking or other problems.

My XD is the 9mm flavor but has been 100% reliable and has accepted every bullet type that I have decided to feed it and unlike a glock it fits in my hand. Sorry I had to take the shot.

XD45 Service
Only had two issues with it, neither of which was actually the pistol.

First, when I first fired it, my thumb was hitting the slide lock, so it was locking back with rounds in the mag. Shifted my grip and solved the problem.

Second, bad batch of ammo (I know because it jammed almost ALL of my .45s, including my venerable H&K USP).

With good ammo and a good grip, I can shoot all day long and hit what I aim at.

Oh, and it is UGLY as all get-out, but that I can live with.

unlike a glock it fits in my hand.
Ditto.

Very Good Results And Dependability

I can't think of a bad thing to say about the XD's I own or shot. Well, ok one thing. What the heck is that faux beaver tail grip safety all about? :)

Stil, when it comes down to function and reliabilaty, fair market price, great manufacturer support and backing...I think that XD is a very good pleaser.

My XD 45ACP has over 2K rounds through it of every type and dimension. Reloads, wadcutters, brand new +P ammo. It's eaten everything I can put into it and then some. 100% reliable so far.

The trigger has gotten nicer and mine breaks at about 5.5 pounds.

It "feels" right in the hand and I don't get sore shooting 200 rounds at a time out of it.

Another model you should look at is the Taurus 24/7 45 ACP. The grip is even smaller than the XD 45ACPs, and price might be a little less.

I don't own one, but rented one at my local range. I liked it, but I would recommend looking into the new ones with the compact handle. With the short mags it would be a lot smaller, and the extended mags give you the full size option.

The guys at the range said it's their #1 selling pistol, can't keep it in stock and they have a wait list.

+1 on XD45

I have shot IPSC, PPC, and recently IDPA and used 1911s, Smiths, HKs, SIGs and the XD45 I got out of the box is as accurate as any of the above and moreso as it seems to point quicker on followup shots. I tried Glocks but never quite felt comfortable with the twin plastic triggers, plastic wrapped magazines, chipping extractors etc. I know, lots of police officers carry them. So what does that prove? Do you know any police officers who really know anything about firearms or are competetive pistol shooters?

Hi All

I just bought a brand new XD 40

I have a friend that has one and I really liked it so I got one.

One question. I noticed that his shot a bit low for me. Is it possible that it is cause I am not used to the long pull of the trigger (1911 man usually) or do I need to shoot heavier ammo to raise the impact?

Thanks
Kid

45acp tactical

been flawless in over 1,000 rounds. i have lefted it in my truck at night. in the morning when its 10 degrees if not colder. it still shoots fine. i am right handed. and have shot it lefted handed. and i limp wrist horribly bad. so bad the bullet hits the dirt 5 ft infront of target. and no stove pipes. and 500 of the over thousand has been wolf fmj 230.
