New to the site and had a question. I need bullets for .45acp and 44 mag and happened upon the Precision Bullets website. Anybody here have and experience and/or comments about them?

Thanks

I've loaded a lot of their .45acp 200gr SWC's and really like them. They're very uniform, well made, and accurate. Use lead bullet loading data with them. The only caveat when loading them is to put a bit more bell in the case mouth than normal to avoid damaging the coating.

I just received 2,500 of their .45acp 185 SWC's today. I haven't loaded any but they look to be very nice. I'm looking forward to making some go away. Oh, and they are the H&G 68 profile and not the short stumpy design some are using.

+1 Order away, these are good bullets at a reasonable price. I've loaded ~1000 45ACP 230gr RN and ~500 9mm 125gr. Punch holes in the paper just fine.

I have used thousands of their bullets in .45. No problems, once I found the correct seating depth.

I got in 1000 .40 and 1000 9mm bullets a while back. I have been shooting them the last couple weeks and have been very pleased with them.

Do you all beleive that these bullets are good enough for competition???

Wow they are very well priced compared to others I have seen.

I've used them, and like them. But I just saw Bear Creek makes pretty much the same sort of bullets with the black coating, and seem to be a little cheaper. Just ordered my first batch, we'll see if they are as good.

The only way to know is to compare them with what you usually use for competition. I guess it also depends on how good you are at reloading. I would not hesitate to try them at competition, except I shoot to relieve my stress and anxiety, not add to them.;)

They shoot good. I am concerned about the possible abrasiveness of the coating in the bore and I know a THR member who despises them and says they crud up a barrel something fierce. I dunno, haven't shot very many, but they did shoot well for me. :uhoh:

I just saw a statement about the Precision Bullets "crudding" the barrel.

Ironically, this happens in one of my 1911's also. The other one shoots them just fine.

Don't have any idea why my 4 incher does not like them. Perhaps the barrel is rough. However, with all other kinds of bullets it usually outshoots my 5 inch.

That would be me. I asked th owner about this and he recommended Paracetic acid to remove the fouling. Paracetic acid can also disolve lead fouling very easily. I found the black crap to be extremely difficult to clean out of the barrels of a Gold Cup and a Kimber I own. Neither of those guns fouls with hardcast lead.

The main reason I didn't like them is because I bought them so I wouldn't have to breathe lead. I found that the vile acrid smoke they give off gave me a sore throat, and caused me to worry that what I might be breathing off these bullets might be worse/ more toxic than the lead smoke ( moly disulfide and teflon??).

If you are going to shoot them do it in very well ventilated range.

I still have about 800 of the first order I placed of 1000 of them left.
I have been debating giving them another chance at the outdoor range, in case I imagined the problems or it was my choice of powder (titegroup and unique) that caused the problems with smoke and black crap residue, but so far I havent completely run out of all other .45 bullets;)

This is from the MasterBlaster (no, not our Master Blaster) website. I also read somewhere that Tightgroup does not work well with the Poly coated Bullets.

Use intermediate burn rate powders, we have included a burn rate chart and recommend powders from #14 clays and slower. Many customers use the faster powders with good success, but we've found really fast powders do increase the chance of some minor smoke and leading.

A Firm crimp will improve performance, and reduce unburned powder charges.

We personally recommend Ramshot and Vihta Vouri powders. We feel that their quality and consistency produce superior loads with our bullets.

9MM / 122 G.---load with 4.6 to 4.7 grains of Ramshot Competition or Vit. 320 will yield 125 to 130 PF. Great minor load for steel, or plinking.

9MM / 147 G.-- load with 4.3 Grains of Ramshot Silhouette or Vit. 3N37, or use 4.5 Grains of Vit. 350 will yield a 135 to 140 PF. Great minor load for IPSC, IDPA, Steel, or casual shooting. I have found that these loads work especially well in Glock 9MM's for accuracy and performance.

38 Cowboy / 122 G.--Load Bullseye 3.0 Grains or 2.7 Grains of Ramshot Competition used in the Stamp 3204 pistol has been a winning cowboy load.

38 Cowboy / 147 G.TC-- Load with Clays 3.0 in a Winchester '73 Rifle makes a nice load for the rifle.

40 CAL / 180 G.TC-- load with 4.5 to 4.6 grains of Ramshot Competition or Vit. 320 will yielda 169 PF. This is the load all of my top shooters use and has won them a number of Major Matches.

45 ACP / 200 G. SP-- Load with 5.5 grains Ramshot Zip will yield a 169 PF and is a great load for IPSC, IDPA, and everything else. This load delivers excellent accuracy and performance.

These are some of our favorites, if you have any questions or some favorite loads of your own you would like us to add, send us and email.

Good Shooting,
DVC,
Tom

I forget which powder I tried with the Precision 200 Gr. SWC 's but they were clean and slick to handle and shot well. I don't know, but time will tell if these coatings harm a bore or build up and are hard to get out with conventional cleaners.:)

But I just saw Bear Creek makes pretty much the same sort of bullets with the black coating, and seem to be a little cheaper.

I ordered some Bear Creek bullets at the same time as the Precision bullets and they were so nasty to handle I have not shot any except the sample pack. They shot real well though. (230 Gr. TrFP) They are cruddy and much dirtier than lead to handle. I will sell them cheap to somebody eventually or they will just sit here. All 1000 of them..:banghead:

Hey, Walkalong.

I'll buy the Bear Creek bullets (.45 ACP 225 grn) from you, if you want. How much would you want to sell it? You can ship it to me using the flat rate box USPS ($8 something).
Please email me at [email protected], if interested.

Thanks,

...or it was my choice of powder (titegroup...
I'm not a fan of Titegroup myself but I was loading fairly soft (4.4gr). Maybe that's the problem but I noticed a lot more smoke and residue on my gun from it than I do with my Solo 1000 loads. Maybe loaded closer to max charges it would clean up but for now, the Titegroup will sit on the shelf hidden behind the Solo 1000.

I like Solo 1000 a LOT better than Tight Group. It burns clean at low pressure well. Simlilar to 700X.

I've been shooting Precision, Bear Creek and Master Blaster bullets in .45 and 9mm. Titegroup makes the most smoke. Clays and WST have worked well in .45 as has W231. I've just loaded up a bunch of 124 gr 9mm with Clays and am very happy. Have not run them over a chrono. All the moly coated bullets seem a bit smokier than copper coated like Berry or Ranier, but the same as or less smoky than hard lead like Oregon Laser Cast or Penn.

The moly bullets are smoother in my Hornady LnL. I do not see the crud reported here and wonder what that is. None of my guns are leading, but I'm shooting low power charges for target and speed steel, not trying to make power factor for IDPA or USPSA. If I were to shoot those I'd probably go with the Hornady HAP. I just bought a thousand of each 9mm and .45 and they are very accurate, like the XTP. About twice the cost of lead.

I shoot outdoors with a covered area on all the bays at my range.

Not to break the thread, but I have a PM for Walkalong. I have to help out a fellow THRer with his dilemma about things he'd rather not have anymore. :)

Thanks ya'll.
