I just got back from the range where i ran two boxes of Blazer Brass from my new .45.I was suprized by the recoil-kick of my pistol. It was the first time that i ever shot any .45 pistol. It was a sobering experence. Now,i fully understand, and agree, that even with 230 gn.FMJ Hardball, you CAN knock-down a person very, very easily, and quickly !

My first 8 shots were at 25 yds. and i shot three in the red,and the rest all in the next 10 ring.A stranger behind me was very impressed with my grouping, being my very first time.I let him run an 8 shot mag. from my gun.He said that he wasn't a Sig fan,but instead a 1911 fan. Then he let me shoot his Kimber Tactical. It was sweet, easy trigger action. And i scored mostly Red shots.

I then moved my next target sheet to 50 yds.. All my shots were to the left of the red, some on white, some on black.I had a very hard time hitting the red,but then again,it was my first time-out shooting any .45 pistol !

I will go back next Sunday, and try the 50 yd. target again.
Anyway,i love my new P220,it has real knock-down power, and one cannot EVEN begin to compare a 9MM,or a .40 cal. to the POWER of a 230 gn. .45 cal.!
It's just night and day, apples and oranges.

I shot all my rounds with a two-handed Weaver Stance.
Next week i will one-hand it ! ;) ;) ;)

A near miss from anything that's not high explosive, isn't as effective as a hit with something smaller...

Regardless, have fun with your new pistol! :)

:uhoh:

Did you shoot yourself with it to prove that theory?

Because the .40 holds more ammo, and has less recoil.

Even though I don't own a .40 (yet), it is a great in between round. Mag capacity of a 9mm with energy and wound track closer to .45.

good to here you liked it! i had 800 .45 old hp ammo in the safe so ive been shooting my sig alot. Ive almost shot em all up so im gonna have to go buy some bullets soon :cuss:

I like my 220ST as well. If you are going to shoot a lot, you need to think about reloading. Not only do you get great bullets for about 1/2 price, you also can load down for fooling around/target shooting. I ran a 9mm/.22 CZ for a couple of years and realized that during that time I could have purchased a very nice progressive press, Dillon/Hornady/RCBS, with all the dies, shot the same amount of ammo, and bought two more nice guns for the $ spent on factory ammo.

Only problem is that I keep reloading to save $ and the gun collection is growing. If that's a problem.

Depends on the gun. And the person shooting it.

I've fired the .40 from a Glock 22 and a Sig P229, and on both guns I found the recoil to be sharp, with quite a bit of muzzle-flip.

OTOH, I've got a Kimber Compact and a Sig P245, both of which I consider to be quite mild. It's very subjective.

The main reason I've heard for law enforcement leaning away from the .45 is that it's a slower round and therefore doesn't penetrate intermediate barriers (car doors and such) as well. Since it's unlikely I'd ever need to do something like that, I'll stick with the .45 as God and John Moses Browing intended :)

...and so the addiction begins! :neener:
The 45 acp is very addicting & you've chosen a very nice platform to start the addiction! Enjoy the ride

HI Erik F !

I just read a post on this forum the other day that was posted by someone who has a friend who is a cop.I think he said that in Arizona one cop was shooting a .45 trough a perps. car window trying to " neutrelize " him but the heavy and slow .45 slug would just careen-off the windshield. Now,the other cop shot his Sig .357 through the window once and splattered the perp..
Slow and heavy has it's time and place.
Just as fast and light does.
I guess in depends on the situation.
Try to watch all the " Tremors " movies and listen to what " Herb " has to say about weapon preferences, ballistics, caliber choice, quintity of ammo.,and bullet placement.
He is a " Weapons Guru " ! !;) ;)
