Best State for Guns

Here's a quick map I whipped up (I colored over an old election map) so that you can get a quick sense of how restrictive (or unrestrictive) each state's gun laws are. It goes off Brady's system, so obviously the D's and F's are the best.

And here's a map stolen from Wikipedia that shows where BLM land is: http://www.blm.gov/nhp/facts/maps/landsmap_m.html (note: I didn't post it here because it's a rather large picture and I didn't want to make the dial-up users too frustrated... so just click the link if you want to see it) Nevada wins in terms of total percentage of the state that is BLM land with Wyoming in second.

Nah. It just puts you in occupied territory where the communists have everything on lock-down. Not everyone in those unfortunate states supports the current regimes. :p

Wow, After reading more about these other states is weird. I alway's thought New Mexico, Texas and Arizona were the only free states left. But some of these other states seem to be just as free. I am suprised that so many gun law's even get passed. . I think it is all an over reaction. We all live and we die and no law's will ever change that. All though i am sure they are working on that one to.
Here in New Mexico of course we still have open carry regardless and ccw with permit or le only. Our vehicles are an extension of our home so we can ride around with a loaded firearm in our lap if we choose to. The funny thing is our governor ( Bill Richardson-presidential candidate for 2008 went and got his ccw:uhoh: i am sure for political reason's) and told everyone on the new's he got it but will not be carrying his Glock 19. Of course not that is what the state police are for. Well unfortunately we all can not have the conveinence of having the n.m. state police as our personal body guard's. So i hope we have him on our side.

NV better then FL

It goes off Brady's system, so obviously the D's and F's are the best.

NV is much better the FL!

in FL you have to have ccw to car carry (or have it in three bags or something)
and no bar carry, no open carry.

I love it here in Montana.:D I'm glad I moved here from Taxachusetts.:banghead:

When I lived there, I used to wear a shirt that said:

Welcome To Massachusetts
Put on your helmet
Fasten your seatbelt
Get your tax money out
&
Give your gun away.
:neener:

AZ, NV and Vermont are best off the top of my head and are definetly on my list to move to. I liked texas also, but I am not sure about them as of late.

I guess that makes me, along with the millions of other Californian gun owners, a communist.

Actually it makes me a dissident of the Communist system of which I was born into, and just as the real fall of the Communist system California will fold at some point, it will either be over run by illegal immigrants or the economy will collapse because it is so expensive to live here.

Yep, Indiana has a shall-issue lifetime CCW allowing you to carry concealed, open, on your head, or in a hat, and to top it all off I can get it at 18. Take into account our freedom to defend ourselves and I'm quite the happy hoosier.

Don't know about the job market, being a lowly graduating senior, but I love the weather. Winter is winter and summer is summer, and about the time you get sick of either you've got a fantastic spring/fall to enjoy.

Montana is excellent. There is currently a "no retreat" law working it's way through the Senate. Concealed carry is legal without a permit except in towns and logging and mining camps. Concealed is defined as "wholly or partially covered by clothing", so a loaded firearm in the car under the seat is perfectly legal.
Places that are restricted are state and federal buildings, banks and establishments that serve alcohol on the premises.
Plenty of National Forest and state land to shoot on.

I vote for New Mexico. Lots of guns, few restrictions, and Shooting Range Park in Albuquerque. City-run, $6 to shoot. Man I miss New Mexico.

Montana

My neighbor is from Montana. Not a lot of jobs there according to my neighbor. The last time I was there was the late 80's so I imagine it might be different now. It was very rural & white. People were very polite.

There are two states in which you have the right to keep and bear arms. Those states are Vermont and Alaska. Every other state it is a privilege which must be purchased.

Montana has very friendly gun laws (Brady F state) and we're trying to make them even better. Alaska carry is pending in the Senate, having passed the House, along with clarifications of self defense law. Also pending is a bill to declare that firearms made in and retained in Montana are not subject to federal regulation. Also pending is a bill to prohibit gun confiscations in an emergency.

Here is info for those thinking of moving to Montana. Some areas have lots of jobs, others not so.

It really depends on the criteria and what is nearest and dearest to you.

For me that would be CCW. I want to be able to carry. I also like having near no restrictions and I want the state to be shall issue. Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Oregon are very good. Almost no restrictions and shall issue. They are probably the top 3 in my opinion. Pennsylvania and Indiana do not require training and keep the permits relatively cheap.

Any state that does not allow CCW on college campuses, at places that serve alcohol, and places that sell alcohol are to restrictive for my taste. I am a young guy and I like to hang out with my friends. I am in college and we go to the bars to meet the young ladies. So these are important factors for me.

In the end it really depends on the criteria that you are looking for as I said earlier. Some people are not as concerned with class 3 weapons as others. Others enjoy their class 3 weapons and see that as the major factor.

No retreat law

I guess I should have mentioned that when the life time carry bill passed it also had a provision for NO RETREAT . All class 3 is allowed & supressors are not a problem. I was shooting at Pops Guns last sunday with the wife when 3 guys came in with an MP5S a Smith Model 76 and a MP5PDW supressed. She says that looks like fun we should get something like that. DARN I love her .... The job market is not to bad and the weather is seasonal....

New Hampshire is the best hands down. The only real gun laws are the Federal ones.

It is also the only state with the cheapest CCW fee ($10, and also shall issue).

It is also the only state without a finger print or training requirment. Basically, you just step up and get one (you have to wait a max of a week).

Also, there is no limit as to how long they can issue a permit for, but 4 years is the min. Meaning that they could issue you a lifetime permit if they wanted to (for $10.)

Basically, NH is ONE step away from VT/Alaska style carry.

VT is NOT better than NH For a few reasons.

#1. No silencers
#2. Local towns can issue CCW/firearms laws more restrictive than those on the state level (IE, a town can be off limits for CCW).
#3. Howard Dean lives there!:neener:
