I currently own one glock 17 and plan on getting a HD shotgun in the near future. I eventually want to put a light on both guns. What kind of light and laser combo should I get for the glock? The shotgun I'm buying is most likely gunna be a mossberg 500. I don't think I need a laser for it, so what kind of light setup would you recommend?

Personally I like Streamlight TLR-2 laser/light so well I ordered a 4th one today.:)

The only pistol I have with a rail is the FN 5.7. The light and laser work good.

I also use the Streamlight TLR-2 on Kel Tec PLR pistols and pistol grip shotguns. On these the laser/light also works good.

i have the m6 on my xd service model and it is great. and i ahve actually trained with it and have engaged and destroyed targets out to 30yds in the pitch dark with little illum. the light is bright and the laser is good to have as well, though i do not have that set to come on just the flashlight and the nigt sights. btw the hits out at 30yds was with the light and regular white dot sights before i had the ns. it did just fine.

don't do like some people and just throw a light/ laser on your weapon, train with it if possible and work out a technique. you will be better served if the time comes that you need to use it.

Personaly i shot and taught before weapon mounted lights were in the vogue , and none of mine have either . Understand i am not saying mounted lights are bad , but i chose not to use them in any format .

I adore my M3 and M6. I am itching to try the new X series with brighter light. I've heard good things about the TLR and it being aluminum (heavier).

After having the M6 laser, I don't recommend to others shooters I know to get them. The light by itself is such an amazing piece of equipment. Spending almost twice as much as an M3 to add the laser doesn't seem cost effective. Sure the laser is cool and has it's place, but when you light up a target at even 10 yards the point of impact is directly in the middle of the spot of light. As the bullets from handguns don't travel at the same trajectory as the laser, it isn't accurate in POI at most HG ranges except for the one first adjusted for. And of course the laser is supposed to be an "aiming aid" not a replacement for true sight usage.

The shotgun spread with some loads and distances is the same diam as the light. That is cool to see happen and of course the laser is just overkill there. :D I have an M3 on the HD Mossberg.

Personally I think lasers are completely unnecessary. Lights however have their place, especially since as a non military engagement target identification is paramount.

One shotguns I like the Surefire dedicated foreends. On handguns I like the Streamlight TLR-1, although I think a good handheld would do just as well if not better with a pistol.

I use an M3 for my glock. IMO surefire builds a better light, but the M3 is cheaper, and was in stock, so I got it. My G19 is a beater anyway, so I couldnt justify a X200 for it.

I'm waiting on a SF 623FA for my mossberg.

I've got a 9 volt G3 on my 9mm AR. Its coming off soon to go on the 5.56 AR that lacks a backordered upper.

I agree sometimes unexpected visitors are someone you might not want to shoot. Anyways I also have a dislike of lasers, I don't know what it is, but I have always found myself firing more accurately with iron sights then with lasers.

Thats not to say that I wouldn't put one on my rambo gun.

Anyways on topic I use both the Surefire X200B and the Insight X2 Laser, I prefer to the X200B because it's brighter, more durable, and uses a much cheaper battery.

Me to. I've been shooting for over 50 years.

BUT in the last five or six years that I've been using lasers/lights I've come to the point that my defense guns WILL have lasers (lights) if available.

I shoot 5-6 days a week and practice with the lasers at least two evenings a week, so ,for an amateur I have a fair idea of the gun mounted laser/lights strengths and weaknesses.

The bottom line is, if you are up against someone, in low light or darkness, that is proficient with a (good) gun mounted laser, you could be at a serious disadvantage.
With just a light you still have to aim using the iron sights.
In my informal experiments I've found that by the time I can get on target and aim, using just a flashlight, a good man with a laser will have most likely shot me at least twice.

I don't consider myself a good shot, just decent, but I seldom miss when using a laser equipped gun at night. Even doing such things as,

10 yard weak hand point shooting from the hip. S&W 2 inch 38 J Frame.

timed single SA shots starting with the gun pointed down, hammer down.
38timedlaser.gif

15 yard weak hand and two hand shooting in the dark .
(the light is only for the picture, the target can be identified in the dark)

25 yards fast firing. 2 inch J Frame.

and the Streamlight laser equipped shotgun fired from the hip.
#4 and 000 buckshot at 17 yards and slugs at 26 yards.

i do not have the laser set to come on when i flip the switch as i feel that i don't need it, but the laser is great for new guns and getting the trigger control aspect down pat, kina of a feedback thing.

i would also from now on buy the light only like the tlr-1 or the m3 i really on't need the laser now that i have one with it on there. plus the lights only are less expensive, and you can outfit 2 guns for the price of one.

btw the m6 didn't cost me a dime so i am not to concerned with what they cost.:)

streamlight

+1 on the streamlight

I have an M3 and an M6 - I am not a huge laser user, either, but it has a place. I also have an XML from Springfield for my XD Compact, which works fine.

I really agree with the practice element as well, but would simply add that it is a lot of fun. I have a set of steel plates that I set up in varying configurations and can go through a ton of ammo doing "shoot and move" drill in the dark. :)
