Buying 9mm Luger ammunition

Bulk is almost always cheaper.

Wall Mart is about as cheep as you are going to find. Sportsmans Guide has 9mm Wolf, but it isn't reliable in all pistols.

check out Natchez Shooters supply on the web, they have CCI blazer and brass in 9mm for under $8/50. Those have always worked well for me

Try calling around to the military surplus stores that also sells guns/ammo. A lot of time they will have "plastic bag" ammo - surplus ammo usually not in boxes they sell in 100, 500, 1000 round bags. If you have an Academy Sports store I have found they usually have 9mm for the cheapest per box of 50 - I used to buy their Monarch ammo until I started reloading.

I had no problem with the steel cased 9mm or .45 acp in a Taurus or Ruger, but it might become a problem if you shoot a bunch in a short period of time due to the laquer building up on the feed ramp and in the chamber. Aluminum case is just fine, you just can't reload it.

Bite the bullet, so to speak, and get ammunition you know works in your gun.
A case of Slobbovian surplus for less money is not a bargain if it keeps tying up your gun and distracting you from your class.

Of course, if you have time, you can test a couple hundred each of off brands in the hope of finding something that works before the class.

if you're into shooting enough to get into a tactical class as a civilian, you may want to consider reloading. That's not going to help you here, but it will in the future, especially with 9mm.

I'd get the walmart winchester 9mm as it's reliable and at $150/1000 it's going to be cheaper than the course anyhow.

This isn't a cheap hobby by any stretch of the imagination, but you can stretch each penny by reloading. I compare my shooting expenses to what it would cost to buy a nice boat, it gives me something to putter with all week long and keeps my mind busy... and I don't mind fishing from the shore.

Look at Academy Sports. You have to ask for their Monarch Brand. You want the green box. It is $5.89 everyday.

If Wal-Mart has ten of the 100-round value packs, buy 'em. Buying in case lots isn't going to be less expensive. I have a case of 1000 coming today from Ammoman - $189 delivered.

I'd say go with the Wal-Mart Winchester white box. It's cheap and reliable.

Another option is to go to a local range or gun store, as many of them sell commercial factory reloads at a very reasonable price and in bulk! Also very reliable, I've never had a problem with it.

I've found though, that Wal-Mart is still cheaper than the reloads.

they have Magtech cases on sale this month. I dont have the flier in fornt of me but I know that 45 was about 275 a case, so 9mm should be a bit cheaper. Also, dicks has Remi UMC for under 10 a box. I bought a bunch this weekend because it was on sale for $7. I threw out a heads up here, so I hope some other folks got in on it.

The Wal Mart stuff is going to be about the best deal you'll find. $15/100 for 9mm is a good price these days. Even when you buy in 1,000 round case lots on-line, the price isn't any better. Once you add shipping in, it's usually cheaper to go to Wal Mart.

Wal Mart or Reload

Well just to echo what you have already been told, Wal Mart is the cheapest way to buy factory ammo, other places you need to pay shipping/handling. Some like UMC ammo but I personally don't in low light or indoor ranges the muzzle flash is a little bit too much. Start to reload if you can as mentioned above the cost can be half or less of factory ammo. I recently purchased the Lee Anniversary kit for under $90, add a set of dies and some calipers and you are ready to go. I must admit I am not a fan of the scales and use a different set. Before reloading do your homework, for obvious reasons you can get yourself into some trouble if you don't know what your doing, the money saved is worth it, and it is fun.

I would pass on the Winchester White Box for a class. I've fired 1,500 rounds of it for range practice and had 3 failures to fire. When you're spending money for a class, you don't want to spend any time figuring out what's wrong: your gun or the ammo, or trying to clear jams of an unspecified nature.

I have fired over 10K rounds of Sellier & Bellot with only one problem and you can probably find it for a price close to WWB at Cheaper Than Dirt or other online retailers.

Another good option is Remington ammo, available occasionally at Dick's Sporting Goods. When they have a sale, it's a great deal.

I checked out Natchez Shooters...I have to say that their prices aren't really any better than my locals. In fact, their website lists the regular price on CCI blazer as $20 for 50ct. ***!!! They're seriously inflating the normal list price to make it look like their 6.99 sale is great. I refuse to do business with those guys. I work retail, and while our prices are a mark-up price, they're only inflated to the average retail price. These guys must be buying from Wal-mart to do a mark-up and charge $20/box 9mm.

WWB or S&B are both good choices. Other quality companies in the same price bracket are Magtech and Speer Lawman. I've never had a single problem with all four.

Likewise I have been on a quest for the cheapest 9mm ammo in bulk. Wally World's deal on WWB is $14.29/100 at the closest store to me.

They used to run out often, now always plenty on hand. Maybe due to me buying 15 boxes a week for a while about 2 months ago. The other WalMart in my town never has more than a box or two of the 100 pack WWB's.

I'll take USA manufactured brass case Winchester ammo over all the surplus and eastern European steel cased stuff any day. Blazer shoots well in my guns, but I have a situation where I can always pick up used brass and resell even 9mm brass in trade for other ammo - can't do that with alloy cases.

I've fired close to 3000 rounds of Winchester White Box through my M9 in the past year. Not ONE stoppage/failure of any kind.

i would also like to suggest wal-mart as of being a place to get a good deal. natchezss.com is a good pace when they have stuff in stock. they like to advertise great deals but seldom have what i want n stock.

also i would like to suggest that you take more than the minimum amount of rds to the course. take a few hundread extra +. you never know, also as many mags as you can.
