A gentleman offered to buy a handgun from me here in Florida.
He says he will show me his DL and CCW, but is hesitant to let me take it down on paper... privacy concern.

Private sales are legal in FL. So I'm only obligated to know that he's a resident of my state. Showing DL and CCW is proof enough for me.

Should I go ahead with the deal, or call it off, if I can't get the guy's DL#/Name/Address for my own records.

What say you?

That pretty much says it all.
Eyeball the DL, make a bill of sale with serial # and buyer and seller names, and the deal is done.
In these days of identity theft I wouldn't want to have my DL# recorded unless absolutely necessary.

Private is private-if ccw and DL aren't enough to convince you that he is not a felon and you have reserves about this person-then don't do the deal. His concerns are valid.

If you're not comfy with the terms walk away.
I've sold a number of guns without any paperwork.
Never really bothered me.
I do want to SEE the CCW though.

Thank You ALL

The person did agree to have a bill of sale which includes Name/Date/SN/Signature.

And we will both present each other with DL & CCW.

If the gun has my name connected with it anywhere. I bought it new or from a dealer or wherever I got it knows me, I sure as H... want to have a record of who bought it from me. This is for when the man comes to me because the gun was used in a crime somewhere and I'm the last person known to own it.

Make up a sheet that says something to the effect of
I (signature here) affirm that I am a resident of (fill in state here) and am not legally prevented from purchasing a firearm.

Firearm (make and model)
Serial #
Purchased/sold on (fill in date)
Sold by (signed)
Purchased by (signed)

You get a copy, he gets a copy and your backside is legally covered.

This is for when the man comes to me because the gun was used in a crime somewhere and I'm the last person known to own it.

Why?

So, the man asks you about the gun. You sold it. Unless the guy whacked your wife or boss, and left the gun behind, what would be the worry?

Yeah., I could just say I sold it, or it was stolen. Lot less hassle to give them a name to follow up on, or have to explain why I didn't report it stolen.
