Senate passed the Final Read of the AZ Homeland Security Force. While the initial legisaltion isn't the greatest, ($10,000 approriated? For what, patches? Club ID?), this bill establishes the committee on how to implement such a team, an organization trained by the Adjutant General and National Guard. No pay, but compensation. Hmm. Step in the right direction. We may need some help from states with established State Guards, like Texas. I like the no federalization, and no UCMJ.

State Guard members usually do not carry weapons. I know that SC's State Guard is used mostly during disasters/emergencies.

This according to Wikipedia (yeah, yeah I know, so take it as you will)

Most states organize their State Defense Force in parallel to their National Guard force (both Air and Army), having it report to the governor through the adjutant general. State Defense Forces are usually not funded by the federal government in any way. In most states, members act on a completely volunteer basis, have to purchase their own uniforms and most, if not all, of their own equipment, and must supply their own arms (if armed).

No paycheck, no supplies, no weapons....sorry count me out I have to work for a living, I have hardly enough free time as it is, joining a militia or anything like that is not high on my priority list.

I would HOPE there is some sort of qualification/standard for any armed members, and that some sort of standardization is enforced. We'll see. I'd like to join, but wouldn't be able to afford a "real" rifle...unless they'll let me carry my Yugo. Yeah, right.
I think it will be mostly a glorified disaster agency, but that will help, while the NG is in various sandboxes.

The Alaska State Guard is bring whatcha got if weapons are needed. In most cases they are activated by the troopers to assist with SARs and such.

Due to where we are, most folks are going to be armed with something when tromping around the tulies.
