I'm about to get my CCW and need advice on a 9mm. I own a 40cal Glock.(Glock23) But never have shot it well. Glocks and 40cal in general.

There's a few 9mm's in my mind for accuracy; reliability; and affordability.

Taurus PT92 17+1 in stainless. One of my favorite guns, hands down. Literally know at least a half dozen people who own one, every one would trust there lives with it.

Ruger P89. I shot one at the range, hated the look and the spongy trigger(I have to add it had a after market trigger) but loved the spot on accuracy. Shot it better the first time I picked it up then any gun I've ever handled.

Stoeger Cougar. Not much is known about said gun but the price and the
Beretta pedigree are what attracts me. Availability is what turns me off. Been looking for months to no avail.

Any opinions or facts would be great. All guns mentioned can be had for $400 or less.
No poly guns or CZ's. The reason I mention CZ's (I'd love a SP-01 and have heard nothing but praise of the CZ-75) is locally, central florida, there not under $500 for any model. And poly guns S.A./Glock/Taurus/S&W/Walther good guns but I hate their triggers. And that contributes a lot to my accuracy I've noticed after shooting a plethora of guns. Would consider a Sig poly if it wasn't out of my price range. And to be honest for once I'm not fearing a used gun.

Thanks ahead of time

look into an "original" makarov. You can find them barely used at all, despite their age. Worth looking into for your needs I believe

My fav 9mm is a tie between my USP, 92fs and BHP...for CCW, I have learned to really like the HK P2000sk ;)

Hate the Walther trigger? You do know there are 3 different trigger variants available for the P99? Including a Double/Single action gun.

There are sooooo many 9mm out there. I would hold as many as I could and see what feels good to you. I have several bhp's and a keltec p11. The browning is a much better pistol than the keltec, but the keltec works fine and is much lighter. It's also dao and the trigger is great.

I have a P89 over the spot on accuracy. Shot Sigs and Glocks the same day I bought it because I shot it so accurate.

The trigger I am used to now.

It is not terribly expensive to try.

Size doesnt matter, I just need something speicifly to take my test with. Ruger and Taurus seem to be where my money will likely go unless I can find a Stoeger or older metal frame S&W auto.

I'm a wee bit confused as to what you're looking for.

You seem to be concerned about trigger pull but haven't stated a preference for condition 1 or condition 2 carry.

You also don't seem to be concerned with size as the PT92 isn't exactly a small pistol.

If you have a local shop to do a transfer CDNN has a ton of 9mms of all flavors in your price range.

I just happened into a new Taurus Millennium PT140 PRO (3rd. generation). They've come a long way in the trigger department. It's a striker fired SA with DA second strike capability. (Older versions are DAO) The new trigger is fantastic out of the box! Maybe take a look at a current generation PT111 PRO. $300-$340 NIB most anywhere. Also a very comfortable carry size and weight.

My first choice is a Browning HP, nothing wrong the Taurus if your going to keep it and not try to resale it.

If you liked the P89, check out the P95. Slightly smaller. If you will CCW, size does matter. Too big and you won't carry it. I have a P89 but find a 9mm compact better for carry, I use a Taurus 111 pro. for that.

I just sold my PT92 after having it for 8 years. A good friend wanted to get into shooting and he really likes the PT92 so I sold it to him for $300 and threw in a nice leather holster and 350 rounds of ammo for free. My problem with the PT92 is that it is almost too big to CCW and the grip is a little larger than I like. It was always 100% accurate and in the 8 years of shooting it I never had 1 problem with it. I think it is one of the best fullsize 9mm's out there regardless of price. If you want a full-size 9mm then that may be the best option and you can get them NIB for $400.
I decided the only full-size gun I want/need is a 1911.

Of the guns discussed I am afraid I would have to say you still are better off with a CZ 75B either in full or compact version. If you look around - Gunbrokers froum - you should be able to find one new or sightly used for your budget. They are to good to pass on and if you are carrying with the prupose of protecting your life you better have a gun that has over time proven to be very reliable.

Take Care

Bob
