Do you get angry when the shooter next to you has a bigger BOOM than you?

This thread is a hoot. I got a real BANG out of reading it!! :D The issue of noise at the range has never entered my mind. Guess there is always somebody with a bigger and louder gun. It is a helluva lot less noise than the bullsh*t I have to listen to at work! :banghead: The range is music to my ears....:D Ahhhhhhhhhhh

The mighty Mosin usually shakes the entire range.

Yes, it does. I remember showing up to the range one day with my M44 fully expecting that I'd catch some attention for the loud noise.

Turns out I had a pea shooter that day. There was a dude on the line with a Barrett M82. THAT got some attention!

Does it bother me? No, but those characters shooting one handed at 25 yds with better scores than I shooting two handed at 15 yds absolutely give me envy fits.

Exactly why I go to the range.....

at odd times. Weekdays after work, or very early on Saturday or Sunday. I don't give a rip about being out boomed. I load all of mine fairly light. I guess I like it relatively quiet (oxymoron?) when I shoot. Come to think of it, I really don't mind sharing a range with other apparently thoughtful shooters who seem to have some point to their shooting (using their sights, working on follow up shots, etc). What I really don't care for are 2 or 3 people who come apparently to shout, not shoot. I don't know whether it's really essential to comment or hoot after every shot, or every magazine sprayed down range in the general direction of the backstop.

Only if they're close and disturb my work.

I was at the range today and managed to set up two benches away from a gentleman sighting in a .460 S&W. Sheeeeeeeesh!

He's a real nice guy, but I had to shoot in between his shots. Two benches away the blast is loosening my fillings.

... and I am the guy with the 4" S&W 500 at the indoor range.

I had one occasion when I was shooting my .45s, 10mm, and .40s when someone a couple stalls down fired a couple rounds from a Desert Eagle 50AE then stepped back and looked around to see if this 'earned' them any attention from other shooters. I just couldn't help myself. I retrieved my 500 S&W from my range bag and robbed them of their "thunder."

Heh heh....I love it when the range goes quiet after the pump 12ga goes off. Heads pop back around the stalls with a "what the h***" was that look.

I never thought that loud noises at a gun range would bug someone.

Its not the noise that bothers me, its the vibration from the cinderblock walls and low ceiling. Our indoor range really picks up shock waves and seems to magnify them so I inadvertently find myself flinching when someone with a huge cannon starts shooting the backstop a lane or two over.

However, they have fantastic fans at my range, and allow black powder shooting indoors, which is pretty cool.

I love it when my muzzle-braked Encore and Contender pistols blow the paper targets off the benches, and blow the tackle boxes shut 5 and 6 feet to the sides. Last time it happened, the guy beside me looked in astonishment and said, "You could at least let me know you were gonna fire that cannon before you pulled the trigger!" That was my Contender pistol, 14" in .30-30 Win with a muzzle break on the barrel. He was more astonished with he saw it was just a little .30-30 Win. After the astonishment wore off, he wanted to fire it. After he fired it, he left the range to go purchase one! True story. So, yes...boomers can be inspiring. But, I still love my little .22LR barrel.

God Bless the Loudenboomers!

I have little problem with the noise usually. There are times when I get surprised when the guy next to me uncaps one out of his 458 Win mag. :what: Oh well...
It's the guy three rows down from me pulling the trigger on his AR as fast as he can and rains hot brass all over me that I find a tad aggravating.
Enter Mr. Mosin! A few rounds from the ol' M-44 usually does it. I've seen guys move as far down as they can to get away from Mr. Mosin or just decide to leave. At the very least the hot brass shower stops for awhile as the guy tries to regain his composure. :)
I shoot on a mostly unregulated public range in the middle of a forest. Some days its like the wild, wild west out there. :uhoh: Mostly though, everyone is considerate with one another.
I normally let the guys around me know when I'm getting the Mosin ready to fire because the noise and shock wave it produces can be disconcerting. Especially if your not prepared for it.

It's a fun gun to shoot and it also doubles as a form of pest repellent.

I get annoyed when someone is shooting one of the .50 cal. hand cannons. Both the noise and concussion is decidedly uncomfortable. What makes it worse is that most, if not all of them, have a recoil reduction system which only exacerbates the discomfort. I will usually leave the range 'til the hand howitzer is gone.

Usually I shoot at an indoor range. I usually go at a time of day when I'm the only one on the range.

The noise doesn't bother me much, I'm often one of the louder shooters at the range anyway due to my choice of arms. I carry (currently a P225) 9mm but my HD weapons are .357 revolvers, and I always practice a few rounds with the shotgun.

However, goofballs do bother me. Whenever somebody that seems a goofball starts shooting I pull out my 2.75" .357 and let a few rounds fly. Very few things in this world match the report of a short-barrel .357, and if that doesn't work there's always slugs out of my truck shotgun.

It's a firing range. Expect noise, especially indoors. Mine allows rifles up to 8100 ft. lbs. of muzzle smash. Deal with it. I did so by buying the highest NRR muffs I could find.

Once while at my indoor range there was an elderly woman in a wheelchair next to me along with someone I recognized as one of the range's instructors - evidently a beginner. I took a little break from my own shooting so as to be less disturbing, figuring she had enough on her plate.

She was shooting a little fleaweight snubnose revolver, and not doing too shabby with it, either.

I have no problems with loud 'uns. My 28-2 is pretty dang loud with 125 grain loads. That said, I had an interesting experience just an hour or two ago. I was shooting and conversing with a fellow who was introducing a girl to the wonderful sport of Boomshutzen. This is an indoor range, five stalls. A guy walks in, we exchange greetings, he sets up, I don't pay much attention. KABOOM! Everyone turns around. He finishes his "mag,":)D) pops open the cylinder and notices something. Turning around, he found three people staring at him in wonderment. "Hi... Jeebus that's loud." We all started laughing.

He was shooting a .44 Magnum, which is quite an experience indoors. Not painful but I'd hate to have someone touch off one of those crazy .454 Alaskans.

Did she do it on purpose?

It was my fault, I told her the wrong door.

I was supposed to see her. She wasn't supposed to see me.

So what?

Well ordinarily I wouldn't mind. But...

But...

Well I just got back from shooting at the range. And the range was loud...

Oh... You mean... shrinkage.

Yes. Significant shrinkage!

If it hadn't been for the noise and my ensuing curiosity I'd have missed out on shooting my first Glock (a 10mm......also the first time I'd shot that caliber) and being amazed at the low level of perceived recoil.

I never really notice who is shooting what, other than an initial quick look around to see if everyone looks like they know what they're doing, or if there are some yahoos that bear keeping an eye on.

It always cracks me up when someone fires something a little louder than everyone elses, and everyone turns to look as if to say "whoa, I just heard a gun go off!" Well DUH!

The very first time I ever fired my Model 29, it was at an indoor range, and all it did was give everybody including me a headache. I learned to only shoot it outdoors after that, and since most centerfire rifles are louder than a .44 Mag out of a 5" barrel, it doesn't stand out so much and doesn't seem to bother anybody.
