Sorry if this is a repost, I didn't see it anywhere on here...

COLLINSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Federal and state agents arrested six men and seized firearms and explosives during a series of raids in northeast Alabama Thursday morning, including one at a camper strewn with military gear where authorities said the owner was recruiting for a militia.

Eric Kehn, a spokesman with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive, said both firearms and explosives were seized in the raids.

According to a statement released by the Department of Justice, the ATF, along with state and local law enforcement, recovered 130 grenades, an improvised rocket launcher with live rounds, a grenade launcher, a machine gun, a short barreled shot-gun, two silencers, numerous other firearms, 2500 rounds of ammunition, explosive components, approximately 70 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), and commercial fireworks. Also recovered was enough ammunition to fill a U-Haul trailer, and over 120 marijuana plants. While executing the search warrants, officers encountered booby traps at one location.

The six arrested -- Raymond Kirk Dillard and Adam Lynn Cunningham, both from Collinsville, Bonnell Hughes of Crossville, Michael Wayne Bobo of Trussville, Randall Garrett Cole of Gadsden, and James Ray McElroy of Collinsville -- appeared before a federal magistrate in Birmingham Thursday.

The criminal complaint charges the men with conspiracy to make a firearm, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, and a fine of $250,000.

Bobo was charged with being a drug user in possession of a firearm, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison, and a fine of $250,000.

They dwill remain in federal custody and are scheduled to appear for detention hearings on May 1. An indictment has not been filed at this time, but the press release stated that “additional charges are likely.”

At Collinsville, neighbors and friends of Jeff Osborne described him as a former Marine in his 40’s who lives in a camper painted with green camouflage design full of military items, including canteens, first aid kits, canvas or nylon sacks and military garb.

Another raid was at a house off U.S. 11 about a quarter-mile from Collinsville School. Officials at the school said they decided to cancel classes for about 650 students from grades kindergarten through 12 because of the swarm of police vehicles.

DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris said the ATF recommended dismissing classes for safety reasons.

Since they don't say the caliber, I'd be willing to bet it is 5 boxes of 550 rounds of good old .22 LR.:)

2500 rounds of ammunition, explosive components, approximately 70 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), and commercial fireworks. Also recovered was enough ammunition to fill a U-Haul trailer,

Yeah I didn't see that either, but which was it, enough ammo to fill a U-Haul trailer or 2500 rounds of ammo? Even with .50 BMG, 2500 rds is not going to fill a U-Haul unless it is one of the really small trailers.

Why are you discussing the ammo? They didn't get arrested for possessing ammo. It was just on the inventory list.

"recovered 130 grenades, an improvised rocket launcher with live rounds, a grenade launcher, a machine gun, a short barreled shot-gun, two silencers, "

Fear 6 men with weapons! Ignore a government intent on destroying the constitutional republic and opening our country to impending civil disturbance, domestic gang violence, internecine warfare and possible foreign invasion.

So when are we going to arrest the federal government for having stockpiles of automatic weapons, grenades, and even nuclear bombs?

The only purpose this arrest serves is that it states private citizens are slaves to the government. Sure, you can say that these guys were up to no good and were about to use the weapons for an attack on Americans, but do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt? The federal government has done the same thing at Ruby Ridge and Waco.

This sounds suspiciously old ... like three weeks. There was a "militia" arrested in N. Alabama that was going to attack illegal aliens outside Birmingham. This sounds like a repost of that. How many militias can there be here?

EDIT: byline is dated April 26. THIS IS OLD NEWS

I wonder how many people these good ole boys actually harmed with their small assortment of stuff?

I wonder how many violent criminals were not arrested while the ATF went after these apparently non-violent offenders?

why does everyone jump to defend some criminals?

If a bunch of gang-bangers in Compton gathered together a bunch of IED's, illegal weapons and modifications and marijuana plants, I dont think THR would be siding with them.

Just because a bunch of Southern gents may share the same views on gun control as board members, is no reason to assign the rank of innocence to these men.

Oh...and the ATF was involved, nothing they ever do is good. Right? I do understand the resentment, however.

They broke laws. They didnt break laws to not do anything either.

why does everyone jump to defend some criminals?

Since when is owning a bunch of guns really a crime? Who is the victim?

You do realize that the patriots fighting in Concorde and Lexington were also a militia who had a stockpile of weapons, right?

If a bunch of gang-bangers in Compton gathered together a bunch of IED's, illegal weapons and modifications and marijuana plants, I dont think THR would be siding with them.

Actually I would be because I don't want to pay tax dollars to keep them in prison if they haven't committed any crimes. Owning guns and weed doesn't count.

Oh...and the ATF was involved, nothing they ever do is good. Right? I do understand the resentment, however.

That's great for you that you feel the need for a group of grown adults (the ATF) to treat you like a child when it comes to firearms. Personally, I don't.

you guys wanna stand shoulder to shoulder with these "gentlemen?" good luck they are toast and i wouldn't wanna be in a group picture with em.
read up on the case and you might see why

Living in a camo'ed camper, that's a nice touch. Wonder if he's got it armored.

So good of the ATF to take out yet another "crazy hillbilly insurrectionist militia". Now why don't they take out the many Islamic training grounds within our country with a drastically more divergent ideology from the mainstream which have been doing all kinda of 'militia training' and, from the accounts I've read, most certainly have NFA weapons.

Oh yeah, that's because the Islamic ideology isn't threatening to those in power; it has no sustainable momentum or threat to the US government's status quo. Witness how everyone - the media, the FBI, etc. - downplayed the Fort Dix jihadists. "Oh they were just stupid blah blah and they couldn't have pulled it off!" Uh huh, just keep believing that...

"Since when is owning a bunch of guns really a crime?"

Are you really that ignorant of the law?

"recovered 130 grenades, an improvised rocket launcher with live rounds, a grenade launcher, a machine gun, a short barreled shot-gun, two silencers, numerous other firearms, 2500 rounds of ammunition, explosive components, approximately 70 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), and commercial fireworks. Also recovered was enough ammunition to fill a U-Haul trailer, and over 120 marijuana plants."

Whether or not you think there SHOULD be laws against possessing various items, there ARE laws against it. And ways to change them that don't involve growing dope and owning a rocket launcher.

Weed, MG's, DD's, SBS's, and Silencers. Something tells me they didn't fill out the paperwork and pay for the stamps. I hope they enjoy their stint in the state pen.

Why are you discussing the ammo? They didn't get arrested for possessing ammo. It was just on the inventory list.

I was discussing the ammo because the press likes to make a big deal about it. I don't doubt that these were bad guys, but you can't deny the press makes more out of some of these stories than they are worth.

I think this story is an exception due to the rocket launcher, grenades, grenade launcher, IEDs, silencers and whatnot. These guys were a bit more over the top than the usual dope grower with an AR story.

Quoting ATF from the article:

Also recovered was enough ammunition to fill a U-Haul trailer...

Technically, they'd wouldn't be telling a lie; and some forum members would back them up.

Remember, ATF has something of a history in "adapting" the truth, to suit their purposes. Akins accelerator, Albert Kwan, and many, many others. :p:evil:

you guys wanna stand shoulder to shoulder with these "gentlemen?" good luck they are toast and i wouldn't wanna be in a group picture with em.

Who said that we support the guys? I'm against the laws they were arrested for because the laws are unconstitutional. That doesn't mean that I support the guys and their cause.

I'm attacking the law, not defending the people for their beliefs. I might not like a bunch of neo-Nazis or communists spouting their opinions but I will fight for their Right to free speech. The gun issue is no different to me.

This is the reason why I'm not an ultra conservative or an ultra liberal. We don't need to make laws based on the attitude that "I don't believe in it, so it should be illegal for you to do it." I don't like victimless crimes.

Are you really that ignorant of the law?

Are you really that ignorant of the Second Amendment and the Constitution?

Man, JohnBT, you missed the point entirely. I asked, what is the crime, as in where are the victims? I don't consider a crime to really be a crime if the victim is the "government." Who was really harmed because these guys own a lot of guns? Nobody.

These guys did not use force against anyone else, however the government initiated force against them.

Whether or not you think there SHOULD be laws against possessing various items, there ARE laws against it.

And these laws are unconstitutional, so what is your point? They shouldn't be laws to begin with since they conflict with the Bill of Rights.

?

you do know they have tape of these fine heros of the revolution planning a massacre? along with one of their own at turning on them.
