So, I got referred here by someone from another forum. Sorry for sort of butting in.

Got arrested back in '03. Charges were bunk, but it was at school and one of the admins felt like pushing it despite the officer telling him it was BS. It's not something I like to talk about.

Couldn't afford to pay the lawyer to get me off the hook, but should have in retrospect. Besides, it was a vice principle's word against a long-haired teenager's, so I went the 'easy' route, payed a few hundred dollars and did some community service (which I would have anyway), and had to stomp some incompetent government deskjobber ass all the way from late '03 to last week, and still looks like it's going on.

Anyway, I also payed for good deal on a 9mm a few monthes ago after I was told by the legal system it was all cleared up, and--guess what?--it wasn't. So I put that on hold, and it finally looks like the expunction may clear sometime soon.

I'm just looking for someone to definitively confirm that the expunction will clear out the arrest and PTI for the purposes of getting my gun where it belongs. All the pages I found on it were pretty vague.

While I'm at it, anyone know if they read the government records directly--which should be cleared up--or if they use someplace like Intellius, which I will have to fight seperately?

not sure about florida law but I am going through a similar situation here in GA.
In GA, expungement will clear you with the state background check system. The state will then give you documentation that your name has been cleared. you then have to present that to the fbi when purchasing a gun. Thats my understanding of how it works here.
Like I said, I'm not sure about Fl. But I do know that a local expungement just cleans your record with the state. As far as the FBI is concerned it will remain on your record.

Well, my lawyer said there shouldn't be anything to it, after finishing the PTI. Supposedly, that's true, but god forbid the system follows its own codes.

I've got the paperwork clearing up, myself. $75, as opposed to a lawyer's $3000. But I will be havign a lawyer double-check everything before I go any further on the purchase here.
