I have just returned from 4 days in myrtle beach SC. First off, let me say the vacation was much needed and well enjoyed. Secondly, it was bike week and I got an eyeful of 2 wheel candy.
With the exception of the short time that I actually spent on the sand, I was carrying concealed. Shorts and tee shirt were the clothes of choice and concealed my EAA 10 mm in an IWB nicely.
The more I carry, the more comfortable it becomes. It also makes me wonder how many out there were carrying also. I try to be more consious of what people wear and how they carry themselves. I do watch people more now than I used to.
I am glad that SC has reciprocity agreement with NC so I had no problem being legal there.

I live very close to the beach (400 yards) and constantly wear cargo shorts, or surfer shorts. Much of the time I don't even wear a shirt. I have been using either Thunderwear or Smart Carry for several years and I've never had a problem comfort wise, nor have I ever been made by another, including leo colleagues. For me in my present setting, this system works for me. If I'm not naked.........I'm armed! Primary: K-40 Stainless by Kahr. Stay safe!

I don't even WANT to know where you hide your gun while on the beach!!! But I've seen some beach goers that could hide a whole arsenal under folds and flaps.

Good luck.

I suppose I chose my words incorrectly when using the 400 yards to the beach comment. It was not my intent to wave a flag. The intent was simply that I wear swim gear and successfully maintain a concealed posture with great comfort and functionality. I am no spring chicken anymore and that in itself may help in the concealing department. My system works well for me, but may not with another. I was simply offering a suggestion to ponder to the original poster. Stay Safe!

Hey, don't forget we're in the middle of our second bike week: Memorial Day Bike Week, which is held in the Atlantic Beach section of North Myrtle Beach. If you liked all the 80 year old white women in leather riding harleys, you'll love all the 300lb black women wearing thongs riding sport bikes!

Next time you come down here, check out Myrtle Beach Indoor Shooting Range, on the south end, hwy 17 bypass, in between 501 and 544 in Socastee.

right in front of your eyes.

This is a silly reply, but the way things are, I would think not many would give you a second look if you wore a colorful Glock; paint it green or orange, and carried it in a plastic childs holster from K-mart. "Squirt Gun!"
-Along with the cooler, blanket and beach umbrella?

Maybe not.

So, how about in the cooler chest?

howdy P85

me and wife were there at Bike Week [the first one, not the militant, violent second one] and had a great time.
While on the beach, I used my Smartcarry and carried the 642 with a reload with nothing but swim trunks on. It was the ultimate test of the Smartcarry.

To all who carry on the beach:

What do you do when you go into the water? Or do you just stay out of the water? I have been considering my upcoming trip to the beach and have come up with two options: 1) I can put my Tomcat into my cargo pocket in a waterseal bag or 2) leave it in the beach house.

Quite:
"What do you do when you go into the water?"

Oh no! This isnt gonna evolve into a "What caliber for sharks?" thread, is it?

thats indeed a good question with the water. And nasty salt walter too lol, sounds liek a yummy mix. Im interested to head that one to be honest.

Course...Im the kind of guy who goes on a beach vacation and spends his swimming time in the hotel pool heh, something aobut swiumming in the ocean urks me...and sand is scratchy.

LOL if it does, I vote for 10mm.
Lupinus, I agree with you, I dislike swimming in salt water and prefer the hotel pools instead. I haven't found a way to swim while packing yet. LOL

quote the Northslope Nimrod:I don't even WANT to know where you hide your gun while on the beach!!! But I've seen some beach goers that could hide a whole arsenal under folds and flaps.

If you go to the beach....

with a drop dead babe with a killer body in a small bikini, no one will notice if you are carrying or not........chris3

On a more serious note...what should you do if your gun accidently gets submerged in the water? Is there a standard procedure for drying it out? Would it require a full strip?

I do not swim in water that has fish bigger than me. Lay in the sun at a beach yep I want skin cancer, NOT.

I'll take skinny dipping in a nice shaded river any day.

If you carry it under your trunks, shove it down in front, not back. One way may get you looks of admiration from some of the bathing beauties the other will have people pointing at you and laughing.
