How many actually carry .357 in their .357 carry piece?

I only carry my 6" GP-100 stainless .357 on two occasions:

1) when I'm out in the woods camping or doing another somesuch activity. Here I carry 155gr? JSP .357 magnum from PMC. If i'm in the desert I have some snakeshot nearby too.

2) when I'm open carrying at home. In this case I carry Federal Hydrashok +P personal defense ammo.

The reason is that if my likely targets are varmints, I carry the biggest load I could find in JSP. If my likely targets are people (god forbid) I have a terrible fear of overpenetration. I'm not in a rural neighborhood.

This is also why I normally carry .45ACP

I normally carry my M60-9 charged with 125g (357). I also have a 686 that is heavy enough to fire 158g mags. I honestly don't want to fire any type of airweight with 357s. :D

SC360 Scandium. Always loaded with 158gr .357Magnum HP ammo. No fun at all to shoot, but it'll be way less fun for the bad guy on the wrong end!

158gr Hydrashocks in a Colt Magnum Carry. The 125 Remingtons are a bit much in a snubby.. lots of BOOM though.

Never heard of that model......was it normally called by a name rather than number?

The M357 was a deluxe versions of the Colt Trooper. The Trooper was not chambered in the .357 cartridge at the time. Later, Colt absorbed the 357 chambering into the standard Trooper lineup.

My woods gun (4" Colt Peacekeeper) is loaded with 158 grain Hornady XTPs over 14 grains of 2400 powder.

My Colt Lawman 2" snub is loaded with Speer 125 grain Gold Dot factory ammo.

.357 Hydrashoks.

I like that I can shoot .38's through my .357, but if my goal was to carry .38 special, I would have just bought a .38 special revolver. I do practice mainly with .38's in my little Taurus 605, but I also make sure to run .357 loads through it from time to time in order to stay comfortable with the stouter loads. My 605 is a little stout with .357 loads, but I can run a box through it before my hand starts to hurt.

I carry +P .38's in my Model 60. I can control these better than the .357's and would rather have confident shot placement at the expense of some velocity/energy.

My 686 handles .357's easily, so that's what I use in that.

Yes! Federal 125 JHPs in the 4" sixguns, and either that or Winchester 145-grain Silvertips in the SP101 snubbies. I will soon try a couple of boxes of the Speer 135-grain load intended for short barrels.

On my hip right now is a Smith 686-2 loaded with Speer Gold Dot for Short barrels, .357 JHP 135 gr.

In my pocket is a speedloader with the same.

Indoors- .38 +P gold dots, 135 grain I think they are
Outdoors- .357 hollowpoints of some sort, usually from an old stock of Cor-Bon medium velocity

Hey, the speer .357mag 135 short bbl. golddots don't count most 38+p is hotter. the only reason I have mom using them is so she does not have to clean the fowling ring left by 38 spcl

I always do. And I practice exclusively with .357 ammo, to avoid the buildup of the sticky ring that slows down feeding and ejection. Also to force me to get used to the recoil of full power loads. If you're only going to load with .38's, get a .38. And if you're never going to practice with .357's because the recoil is too intense, you should get a heavier piece. My Speed Six is just about the ideal weight and size. A J frame is IMHO too small for effective shooting of the magnums.

In any of my 4" Smith K-Frames, I carry Federal 125gr jhp .357 ammo.

In my Ruger SP-101 with the 3" pipe....I carry the same Federal round as above.

I am first to admit, I don't like to shoot full-power magnum loads in ANY of my ultra light magnum snubbies. I am past the point in my life where my ego is bruised by tactical teddies who MUST absolutely carry elephant loads in their pistols. I bet I practice a whole lot more with my .38Spl +P 110gr jhp's.

Like I always say to the 'teddies who decry the 9mm or .38spl..."How many rounds are you willing to be shot with to prove how ineffective my ammo is?"

The ammo we have today in .38, .357, 9mm, .40, .45 are all good stoppers, provided we use GOOD ammo from GOOD manufacturers AND of course one puts the round where the round needs to go.

Hell, I don't want to be shot with a pellet gun for pete's sake.

Yes.

When I carry a .357 for concealed, I go with full power 125gr JHPs. At the moment I'm out of those, and have some 158gr JHPs in their place in my S&W M13 (4-inch heavy barrel).

I shoot tons of .38 target ammo through it - but I rely on hot factory 125gr JHPs if I have to carry it for defense. I do shoot both factory and reload .357 often enough to be good with it - if I ever have to use it in self defense, the difference in loads won't make a difference to me, but they sure might make a difference on the receiving end.
